I haven't slept much in the past few weeks. This morning, I summoned the courage to roll over and get another 8 hours of sleep. It's 2:30PM and I'm just getting up.

Helped a friend move today. As thanks they handed me gas money and an unopened Voodoo3 2000 video card. The suckers from 1998, and hasn't ever been touched. So cool.

Crowley posted:When you don't have to think about a reason you're happy it just means you're doing ok. That's true enough, I guess. I just decided to make a commitment to find something awesome about every single day of my life, and I'm actually pretty excited that I've come as far as I have since I'm normally terrible at making commitments.

My friend has a TI-99/4A. I want to steal it so bad every time I see it. Had a date tonight, we chilled at my place and went to a local Mexican restaurant, it went really well.

Me and 5 friends went over to another college to a Humans Versus Zombies game, and while that was fun, the car trip as so much better. And then we got Cookout, which is amazing, amazing food.

I was out running and thought I heard someone calling out behind me over my music. I turn a bit and see a mastiff trotting along with me. He stops as soon as I do and comes over to be petted Dude wanted to come along for the run so he hopped out of his owner's car (which I hope wasn't moving) and came along. She was running after us. And mastiffs are hands down my favorite breed.

Just made the best goddamn egg salad I've ever made before and had a couple sammiches with it. Plus, got to sleep in this morning after a long 6 day work week, cleaned out the interior of my car, and hit up the store to get some stuff for me, my bro, and nephews. Feelin' accomplished!

Getting laid off with 1/3 of the management staff, but finding out that the billionaire owner and VP of my company got sent to jail. It really softens the blow to know that I'm getting off a lot easier than the bosses.

My back doesn't hurt at all. It is snowing. I had peanut butter toast and cocoa for breakfast. Sunday is my one day to do anything I want. No places to be or responsibilities. I love Sunday.

My past few days were awesome for the stupidest reason. Right now, I have a short Mohawk (Need to re-shave the sides, actually) and braided beard. I do not have the friendliest face, needless to say. Yesterday I helped the new mom next door with getting some time away from a crying baby by spending the morning with her kid while she got the shopping done and had lunch with a friend. An elderly lady down the street whom I've known for 20 years asked me this evening for my phone number, and would it be possible for her to call me to talk to a bunch of teens who really like using her front yard as a meeting spot and get them to move on somewhere else just because they're making her nervous. Stupid as all hell, but I feel incredibly warm and fuzzy knowing that people around here know they can actually call and ask me for things. I'm unemployed and generally fall into slumps of feeling worthless, so anyone asking me to help cheers me right up. Two in two days is just awesome. I've already had half of my students e-mail me because they could not sit there staring at their books one more second, they gotta start reading now! God, they're adorable and brilliant and giddy, all of them. I told them to crack open some Rilke. Today I reread my Rilke books for the hundredth time, wondering how long it will take before one of my students says something unique and innovative about Letters to a Young Poet and then I will get to reread it for the hundred-and-first time with a completely new perspective.

^ Yeah, my day wasn't that different. Slept, putzed on internet, played skyrim, watched japanese cartoon for kids about 3rd grade girls training to be witches. And you reminded me that I need to finish Twin Peaks one of these days. Jan 17 2012 - binge-read a lot of racism and white privilege tumblrs, blog posts and articles. I got a lot of poo poo done today! I got a new Student ID card and library card (wallet was stolen a few days ago), dropped off a job application at Victoria's Secret, and bought myself a sweet new hoodie for $15 marked down from $50. I also started filling out the application to transfer out of my current school, which I hate. Now I'm relaxing and watching Twin Peaks, followed by some home-made fried chicken and more Twin Peaks.

I got to visit the Peabody Library as part of a class I'm taking. The place is amazing. It's a cathedral of books. You can smell them as soon as you walk in. It's enormous. You want to spend a few minutes just staring at the ceiling. We first got to see an exhibition of books from the history of science. Galileo's Dialogue, another first-edition work of his on sunspots, a Copernicus, a first-edition Principia Mathematica of Isaac Newton. Mendeleyev's pamphlet on the first periodic table. Hubble's and Einstein's and Curie's papers. We also got to visit the Rare Book Room. I didn't even know Peabody had one! I felt like a priest entering the Holy of Holies for the first time. They had a first edition Origin of Species, which the library bought for $1 when it first came out. First edition Huckleberry Finn. 1600s Cervantes. A Papal indulgence contract - the sort of thing which sparked the Reformation. Even funny little things - books with hidden images inside the gilting on the sides, a fold-out image of the Crystal Palace exhibition, and pornographic dime novels from Baltimore which sold for 10 cents each. Every book person should make a pilgrimage there. I'm still in awe. Sorry for the wall of text. Today was pretty goddamn awesome.

I slept through the night, which I hadn't managed for a week or so (3 of the previous 5 nights I hadn't even slept at all). I was so sleep-deprived and talking bollocks yesterday that I got probated for drunkposting - at 9am. Then last night I went to sleep somewhere at home and woke up on my floor at about 8am wearing nothing but a hat which was cellotaped to my head and now I'm feeling completely refreshed and can take on the world. I attribute that to the hat. I applied for some jobs this morning, then had coffee and chatted to various other creative types, and now I'm waiting for the camera battery to recharge so I can go out and practise looking at things and operating machinery (my mate lent me his DSLR last week, and I have no previous experience with photography). It's a really lovely day for it, unfortunately I don't know where to go.
