What are some bands that have very organ themed songs like The Doors or The Animals (in House of the Rising Sun), etc.?

edit: I also should have added that the more psychedelic sounding it is, the better.

I'm really digging The Books and Tunng these days. Mostly Tunny, which is less precussive than the books. Mellow and folky, with some electric glitchiness and maybe some sampling thrown in. Any ideas for where to go next?

I'm not an anarchist but respect their views and music very much. Four bands immediately come to mind:

Crass - very abrasive, basic punk. One of the most important and influential bands to ever wear anarchist views proudly on their sleeves.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGjk1Y_j8QE
http://youtu.be/eT1etlIZmis

The Ex - basically a Dutch version of the Crass. The main differences were:
a) they are still playing nowadays, now hitting their 30 years as a band;
b) they were way more musically adventurous, releasing albums with cellist Tom Cora (two LPs, both brilliant)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfskVxCn_qo
or Ethiopian saxophonist Getatchew Mekuria
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll1p_YuZXzM

The Pop Group - the most aggressive band of the late 70s/early 80s danceable post-punk wave (Slits, Richard Hell, Black Randy & The Metrosquad, etc.), just check out their most famous song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VnwL4-Ghn0

Chumbawamba - yes, these guys. Before they wrote a silly song about getting drunk (which was put in the FIFA World Cup game soundtrack) they were an anarchist folk-punk band releasing albums with titles like "Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records". They even recorded an acapella 10'' called "English Rebel Songs 1381-1984" which is exactly that:
http://youtu.be/cuBgeGKPGZI

For blues-punk with socialist/anarchist themes should check Tim Kerr's output. Especially Lord High Fixers:
http://youtu.be/DosmPwojAEQ
Their last album "The Beginning of the End... The End of the Beginning" is basically one LP-long manifest.
(other bands with Kerr on guitar are Poison 13 and Jack O' Fire, but they weren't that much in the MC5 mode, focusing mainly on playing old blues songs by means of sheer punkship)

Not gonna be able to touch TB's post, but former Avail frontman Tim Barry's music might fit the bill. Going to assume you're familiar with Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Billy Bragg (and if you're not, Bragg is just what you're looking for).

I was gonna link the same Boris song as above. They are awesome, and if you have the opportunity to see them live, absolutely do it. Early Boredoms stuff is great if you want batshit insanity; the stuff from the late 90s on leans much more towards epic psychedelia (see also: Ghost). If you want something a little more fun and ridiculous, Peelander-Z (who should also be experienced live).

My take on it is basically that I don't really see a substantive difference between reviewing an album and posting about it. Like, okay, you have thoughts on an album, post about it in an appropriate thread, whether that's an existing one that's relevant or a new one. What's distinct about "reviewing" albums that sets it apart from normal posting and discussion?

edit: to be clear, I know this is mentioned in the OP, but this thread is of course not the appropriate thread for unsolicited reviews.

I love this song by Frog Eyes.

It's pretty, but also sounds like a song written by an insane person. I like all of the layers of sound and frantic vocals. It's challenging to listen to but in a good way. What else might I like that has similar qualities? I already listen to the other Spencer Krug projects.

Here is another one by The Twilight Sad, which is a terrible band name.

I remember a while back somebody posted a bunch of pictures of a Japanese band that was only 2 or 3 guys, the frontman of which plays a theramin type thing that is embedded in a fluorescent tube. I have a couple of things that I'm looking for. I've got a 10 month old that only ever wants to listen to music and dance, and I'm trying to stay far away from kids music as long as I can. Because she's a baby, she likes simple beats that let her dance. What I'm looking for:

Rap music that isn't full of swearing, violence, or rampant sexism - I'm mostly still the into early-mid 90s rap from when I was young and my wife understandably gets mad if our baby is listening to it. I've got De la Soul, Dr. Octagon, Sugar Hill Gang, and The Fat Boys (The Fat Boys are Back is incredible), but I'm sick of all of those.

Electronic (?) music that is reminiscent of 80s movie soundtracks like Kavinsky. My wife bought the Drive soundtrack and we ended up getting all 3 albums of his that we could find. Nightcall is still my daughter's favorite song.

Any newer pop music (I've only got 80s pop music) that isn't too precious or twee and isn't about being skanky or sad, but is simple and danceable.

Thanks! Six to eight hours of listening to the same music over and over drives me nuts.
