So I finally went and got myself copies of DDS1&2 and so far I'm really enjoying it. There are a couple of things I'm a little confused about though, even though overall most of the game comes naturally to me due to its similarities to Nocturne. Firstly, how are you expected to complete Field Hunts? I've only encountered one in Manipura and when I get to confront the Ara Mitama team they just run away after a single turn, even if I pelt them with Bufu spells. In that same vein, Omoikane seem impossible to beat--even if they don't get Debilitate off right away all attacks only do 1 damage (including crits) which leads to them fleeing in short order.

Also, I remember reading in the "things to know before playing" thread that there are a couple characters you aren't really supposed to use or something? Anyone know what that's about? I don't want to build a strong team only to get screwed over later due to my character choices. That was never a problem in the Persona games and I don't really have an issue rotating characters, I just don't want to waste my time.

For mitamas you want to hit their weakness until they get scared and then consume them. Omoikane are a bit different, each of them is only weak to a certain element and they'll only die (when the turn ends) when you hit them with it.

I didn't have problems with character rotation but I guess your mileage may vary, just have a team that can buff/debuff, heal and do some damage and you'll be fine.
Remember that some choices you make in DDS1 will affect things in 2.

I think the Omoikane are actually only weak to guns, so you have to make some of your party revert to human form. Then you have to shoot them and hope you get lucky, basically.

Oh right, I was talking about the omoikanes in DDS2. That's how you take care of them in 1.

And as for characters you aren't supposed to use, the situation is that for reasons you won't want ruined for you, Gale and Cielo are absolutely critical to keep in your party at all times once you start DDS 2. As far as game 1 goes, you can pretty much use whoever you want though.

Cielo sucks in DDS1 because he's weak against Ailments, so having him around is kind of a liability. Ultimately you can unlock Exp and Atma sharing skills that let you level up your secondary characters at the same rate as your party, but that takes a bit of grinding.

Heat is forced to leave the party twice for plot reasons, and Argilla leaves the party with him the second time. Each of these departures only lasts for the duration of one dungeon, though. As long as you keep the other party members' skills diversified enough that you aren't completely screwed without one or both of those two, you'll be fine. Heat has high Strength and crappy Magic, and Argilla is pretty much only good for Magic, so you'll inevitably end up making him focus on Phys/Hunt skills and her on high-MP magic spells. Depending on how you allocate stats, Serph could sub in for either one of them (or both, if you feed him lots of Noises and never swap him out of the active party).

I would suggest to focus on Serph's magic, once you start hitting the high level spells and their respective boost spells, its downright gamebreaking.

What the gently caress is with this mission in Overclocked, I'm supposed to stop these SDF tamers from escaping but they're getting like 2 or 3 turns to my one, I just failed for the 2nd time despite having the last one at almost no health, this is retarded.

That was probably the worst mission in the entire game, however I found just stacking evil/chaos wave demons allowed me to snipe them pretty easily. Constrict could probably help too.

e: Also try to build your demons around just bashing the head in of the tamer rather than focusing on the damage sponge demons they have.

Alright so I'm nearing the endgame in Persona 4 and I got a question. I read about how to get the "Normal Ending" but I understand that there's a secret ending as well. Can I get a little guidance on how to proceed with December to get the most out of it without spoiling too much?

If you're set up to get the Normal ending, you don't have to worry about the Best ending until the last day of the game (after you beat the final dungeon). Not related to the ending, but you want to make sure you beat the final dungeon on or before December 22, or else you'll miss the Christmas Eve event.

I've just started up Digital Devil Saga and after reading the OP I'm still kind of confused as to which stats to grab and which mantra to unlock. I'm at the point where you pick your first mantra. The OP says to get one that is weak to your element, so does that mean I should unlock the fire mantra for Serph and the Ice one for Heat and in doing so lose all my first mantra's skills?

As for the stats, I've been keeping them quite balanced after reading a few faqs but just wanted to double check with you goons that I should instead be focusing on a specific stat.

I would honestly suggest you go full on magic for Serph, your other guys are specialized to fill a specialist role if you needed(heat is phys for example).

You don't lose skills when you switch mantras. Equipping a new mantra at the Karma Terminal just means that you're learning the new skills that are in that mantra; once you get enough Atma Points to master your current mantra, you always have the skills that you learned from that mantra. You only have a few skill slots to actually equip the skills you've learned, though the number of skills available will go up a couple times as you gain levels.

I disagree. If you had no problem with the rest of the game, then the true ending has nothing to offer that would make you cringe?
If anything, I found the endplot to be pretty reminiscent of the P2 duology, with the idea of a game to determine mankind's fate.

Oh, that's a relief then.

I'm the most paranoid when playing SMT games because I just know I'm going to forget something, or fuse the wrong thing, or not have the right debuff for the next fight, and then it just starts snowballing on me till I'm on the last boss getting truck hosed. It's going to be Persona 4 all over again, I just know it. :allears:

I usually went all magic, next level 2 magic one vit, or swap it around, 2 vit 1 magic, stuff like that, but I usually just focused on those 2 stats and just blazed through the whole game pretty easily.

Um the main theme of the game is looking cool in shades and bear puns and there is zero plot holes as far as that is concerned. Then this is where we disagree then because saving the world against the capricious whims of gods through believing in the heart of the cards friendship was okay when I went through P3, by P4 it was old and by the time I played other SMT games it was getting to be straight tedious. Also the 'game' was just fighting a dull final boss.
