So I've been following the development of the Icenhancer ENB 2.0 mod for some time now and the guy behind it is very near release. His latest batch of screenshots from it are pretty loving rad. Naturally it's catered to those with super computers from future space. Also, he's been doing some work to make it compatible with version 1.0.07, but don't expect it to be as pretty as the 1.0.04 version. You can check out his Facebook page for the latest info on it. I promise I'm not the guy making this. I'm just hoping he resumes work on his Skyrim version once 2.0 is released.

Forget Crysis, that really does look real. The NPCs looked photoshopped into a real photo. It's insane how potential GTA4 had in it. Wish I had the time to make my install into something other than a soupy, grainy mess.

To me it's a 10 even with "deep flaws" because it was fun as hell when it came out 4 years ago, and it's still just as fun and impressive to me today. For the record i've purchased this game for 360/PS3 a total of 4 times since it's release.

10 means perfect, if the game has deep flaws that means it should get a 9 or 8. But then I played on the PC so I had to deal not only with Social Club (and lacking internet the day I got that game, that was rage enduing) and ridiculous frame-rate issues due to the engine not being properly optimized. I actually gave up pretty quickly the first time through and went back to SA for a bit.

GTA4 is really pretty, has improved controls, more detailed physics and... that's about it. Niko is the worst GTA character, the plot is stupid and terrible, there's a dramatic lack of progression and customization, the world is incredibly bland and samey, for the first time there are dramatically fewer kinds of vehicles, driving is the least fun, the side content is largely awful, there are almost no random events, the radio stations are nowhere near as good as the previous games, the game runs like rear end on every platform, and there are none of the innovations other games have introduced like replaying missions/cutscenes and having an actually good UI for selecting stuff that you own. GTA4 is a good game, but Rockstar can do and have done far better. Even TBOGT fixed a lot of the poo poo that was wrong with GTA4, but I hope that GTA5 is more than one step forward and two back. I'm not going to go into another GTAIV bitch fest because unlike others I really like the game. The problem is that once you get to a certain point, and that point being doing Packie missions, the game suddenly becomes not very fun at all. On my recent replay I was having a loving blast, remembering all the fun I had when the game first came out. Then I get to this one specific Packie mission and it starts to go downhill from there. I'd prefer the next GTA have maybe 20-30 story missions total, and make them all memorable and awesome as possible, in Saints Row The Third fashion. Because this plodding, wannabe-Hollywood, plot stretched out too, poorly paced crap is wearing me thin. One of the major reasons I think both TLAD and Gay Tony are what GTAIV should have been.

Every time a new GTA game comes out it blows me away, and I don't think I could say that about any other games. It took me several hours of playtime to finally decide that GTA4 wasn't as good as I initially thought. Really all of my complaints came down to new mechanics that didn't work as well as they could have. The shooting, cover, and walking mechanics were particularly frustrating. When Red Dead came out though, all those things were WAY better so I'm confident that GTA5 will really have the Euphoria stuff down well (I know Red Dead was a different studio, but still...). I see it now the same way I see GTA3. At first I thought it was the greatest game ever but after a few months I started to get sick of some of its flaws. The difference is by that time, Vice City was already coming out (I went from PC GTA3 to PS2 Vice City so there was only a 6 month gap). It's been four years since GTA4 came out, so there's been more time than ever for me to analyze the "current" GTA game. Rockstar released both Vice City and SA within three years of GTA3. GTA5 has already taken longer to come out than GTA4 did after San Andreas, which is pretty amazing when you consider Rockstar was dealing with all new tech with GTA4. You'd think that after IV came out they would have been able to crank out a sequel within 2 or 3 years and have it be good. This long dev cycle and the fact that they're making it a numbered sequel makes me think that the scope of GTA5 is going to be huge.

There are like 5 good SR3 missions and the rest is filler. And the GTA4 tech blows it out of the water

# ? Feb 13, 2012 06:35 |

I think SR3 looks better because it's bright and colorful. GTA5 looks like a step in the right direction. Also, I liked every mission in SR3 whereas in GTA4, I'm seemingly always doing filler. Apples and oranges, but I think Rockstar would have a higher quality product if they focused making a couple dozen tight missions with infinite replay value and a lot of side content, rather than 90 so-so story missions and poor replay value with little if any side content. But I don't want this to be a SR vs GTA thing, it's really a quality thing. I can't stand the padding of Rockstar games. GTA3 and Vice City were the perfect length.

Red Dead Redemption was pretty long but I never really felt the story dragged unnecessarily like GTA4's did. For me the most annoying part of 4 was the way most of the characters would just appear and disappear. Longer and more consistent plot arcs like in RDR would be a great thing in GTA5.

The difference is that GTA III was basically the first game of its kind, so they didn't know what things would annoy people or suck during gameplay. By the time IV rolled around they had already made three games and should know that having the character be able to turn around and walk through a door without getting stuck on the sides was something people care about. And that isn't even getting into how samey the early missions were.

I disliked GTA IV but after Saints Row the Third I decided to visit the GTAIV expansions and it only took a half an hour to remind me about why I loving hate the IV installment. A bunch of unlikable assholes screaming at each other over stupid bullshit as they ride down a brown and grey city road while an unfunny and tasteless "My Drunk Uncle" ad blares over the radio. It's just, the disconnect is unbelievable and all it does is make the serious bits feel less serious and more stupid and the wacky, asinine comedy bits more uncomfortable than anything else.

But its on a whole new engine. GTA3 in retrospect is pretty rough compared to all the improvements they were able to do with the engine that they didnt know how to at that time. GTA4 is playing out the same way with the rage engine. They were able to create this awesomely detailed city but they stuck it with a barebones plot just like 3. Everyone says the episodes are better, they already created they city so they were able to focus on the story more and create new things to do, like the mission on the subway car. We cant see much of GTA5 yet but the trailer seemed bright and colorful enough so hopefully we move away from a depressing plot and get something more fun.

As in it's directly evidenced with the DLC having a nice variety after the vanilla game. You can't just tell your guys to tighten up the mission variety on level 3.

I enjoyed GTAIV at the time but it certainly had its faults. Gay Tony went some way to address those and hopefully Rockstar can take bits and pieces of what they've learned from Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Max Payne 3 and others (yes I know they didn't develop those but they are under their umbrella) and incorporate some of that into making an incredible GTA5. My greatest fear is that it will be just GTAIV in a different city, I really hope they change it up a bit. Of course there are some elements that will stay the same, it is a GTA game after all, but hey I can dream right?

I'd be happy with GTAIV in a new city. Playing Saints Row 3 and getting bored because of how uninteresting the city is has given me a renewed appreciation of how great Rockstar are at designing cities and I can't wait to explore and mess around in Los Santos again. GTAIV was a great game, it's just it was a bit disappointing that it was such a step back from San Andreas in a lot of ways. And yes the phone calls were a bit annoying, but there was an option to turn them off! I'd do that all the time when I fancied just messing around.
