I'd love some music that is sort of like gently caress This poo poo by Belle and Sebastian. Basically, really chill, simple, acoustic music. Doesn't necessarily have to be instrumental, so long as the vocals aren't anything too fancy.

It is made of recordings from up north (like Greenland or something). You can hear some wildlife, especially in the first track. The rest is mostly from underwater recordings (that is the "special" feature from this album).

I'm looking to go on a new music binge, so the more recommendations the better. I hope this isn't a faux pas here in NMD, but it's the most concise way to give a picture of what I like I can think of so here's my Last.fm. tl;dr of above: Just found out that contrary to what my proto-hipster friend told me, Yeah Yeah Yeahs are in fact ridiculously awesome, but I'm a little apprehensive it won't last. I liked them the instant I heard it which is generally a sign I'll get sick of it in a week or two. Trying to get a grip on Built to Spill, not so sure about it, seems really samey on the first couple listens. I'm going to give it another shot or five though, maybe there's something I'm not immediately hearing musically, and some of the lyrics have really blown me away. Current favorites: Modest Mouse The Faint Pixies The White Stripes Cake I hate hate hate ambient and jam bands. That's not to say I begrudge you your liking them if that's what you're into, it's a taste thing not an objective value judgement. I like stuff that keeps giving when I concentrate on it. Layers, discordant notes that shouldn't work but do, syncopation, that kind of thing. Music that fades into the background can go gently caress itself. Thanks!

Leaves Turn Inside You has TONS of depth, so you may need to give it a couple listens through. At least, I had to. Try 31Knots. They don't have too much on youtube, but you can stream their most recent stuff at Polyvinyl's website. There's a lot on there to listen to, but try The Curse of the Longest Day EP or Something up there this way comes on Worried Well or Chain Reaction on Talk Like Blood. Deerhoof is really cool. So is Mew.

My favorite local band (to Gainesville, FL) was called Baby Rat , just a keyboardist and drummer duo. They played probably less than a dozen shows in their short existence, and never looked that confident about themselves. But I thought they rocked. I guess you'd call their brand of music "electronica" but I've never really understood the distinction between "electronica", "techno", and "industrial". I have a feeling they borrowed heavily from another band's sound. If you have any idea who that is, or who else they might sound like, then please make a recommendation! Here's their three songs on Grooveshark for the "I only click once" crew: http://grooveshark.com/s/Rat+Strut/2lwqWy?src=5 http://grooveshark.com/s/Mantic+Mantis/2lwqWY?src=5 http://grooveshark.com/s/Futura+Slut/2lwqSY?src=5

Jobriath's self-titled is awesome weirdo soul stuff The Rats - First Long Playing Record (Ronson is on this too) Cockney Rebel - The Human Menagerie/Psychomodo The New York Dolls - self-titled is more protopunk than any of the British stuff but they were definitely glam.

I feel like I should know more, but here's what I've got: Wooden Shjips The Black Angels Stereolab (though not everything of theirs sounds like that) The American Analog Set's first two albums. Much less gritty and dissonant than Spacemen 3, but lots of organ drone and repetitive riffs. Some Duster songs get the right feel, but a lot of their stuff is mid-tempo indie rock. Gonna assume you know The Warlocks, VU, Jesus+Mary Chain, Neu!, The Sonics, The Stooges, etc. Loop is also a good recommendation. edit- meant to include No Age funkybottoms fucked around with this message at 16:52 on Feb 2, 2012 |

This is going to sound stupid, but I've found this music that has helped me not be so depressed lately and I'm wondering if there are other bands like it. The band in question is Anamanaguchi, here's their song My Skateboard Will Go On. Doesn't have to be chiptune stuff (but that'd be cool) but for me it just seems really upbeat and awesome.
