A Fancy 400 lbs posted:My grandparents were abusive to my mom to the point where she ran away from home and was emancipated at 16. They were rich, so my uncle got everything handed to him on a silver platter, whereas my mom worked her way through an MBA. My family has always been relatively poor compared to his. My grandfather died a few years ago, and my grandmother is dying now. My mom has been going down to Florida for a week every other month to assist her while my uncle visits for a couple days a year, and by a couple days I mean he visits her for five minutes and then hits the beach. My uncle is getting just enough in inheritance to not completely crash and burn from his bankruptcy(he started a business on a personal loan ), and my mom is getting enough to pay off our mortgage, my mom's best friend's(Who is in major debt due to the death of her husband) mortgage and enough to help finish sending me through college. You were a terrible person up until almost the very end, but thanks Grandma. I think probably your mum's hard work paid off. I've known a couple of people in similar situations and I think it's a common thing in parenting to lavish attention on the more useless (for want of a better word) child. In this case it sounds like your grandma finally realised that her daughter would do far better with the money than your uncle. Why my day was awesome: I haven't ridden a bike in nearly 20 years but I just got a new one and rode it home from my parents' house today. When I first got on it, it was sort of like that bit when Bambi first starts walking and is all wobbly. It was fun, but I did manage to fall off while dismounting because my leggings got caught up on the frame. Oops. I now have a leg wound and a shiny new bicycle! 'Tis an awesome day! (hope I don't die) ^ How did I guess you were Scottish?

Nothing whatsoever has gone wrong at work. Productive to a fault, smooth sailing, even feeling encouraged. Feels like last night transformed something. u: more productivity, one Darron Gibson, and the wife and I switched a non-working antenna for a working one at Radio Shack tonight and now we have TV for the first time in months! Big reason why my day today continues to be awesome: I made a pledge to recruit at least 6 people for freerice.com and I'm already For those not in the know, freerice.com is this ingenious website based around the idea of playing a quiz game that keeps going and going and going For every question you get right, 10 grains of rice are paid for by a sponsor and given to the the hungry folks of the world. It sounds small, but when hundreds of people do it every day, it really makes a difference! If anyone wants to join my freerice group, it's located here.. The more the merrier!

After about 2 and a half weeks on board our ship, we pulled into Durban, South Africa, today. As long as we have a group of three or more people and let our supervisors know, we are more than welcome to help ourselves to some shore leave. Sure beats doing absolutely nothing other than puking our guts out due to the rough weather around the cape.

Robot Lincoln, I wanna be like you when I grow up. Another productive morning, and my team sent me Chinese food because I was too shy/working too much to hang out with them while they were eating it. And one of my nurses is getting transferred but made sure to say a heartfelt goodbye to me. I'm very thankful for the last couple of days here (but still planning to job hunt like mad).

This morning I was going to ask my boss if I could take next semester off to focus on research. I walked in to his office and he asked me if I would mind taking next semester off so that one of my colleagues can have another course. And my husband and I won trivia for the fourth week in a row!

My boss isn't in today so I'm having a super easy and relaxing day at work. My coworkers and I spent an hour watching youtube videos. Most of them were of cute baby sloths . And I'm getting 4 lbs of protein powder delivered today so I can start eating better, like I did until recently. Four pounds of delicious protein.

I just landed a mother loving JOB! Landed a sweet gig in the oil fields here in Alberta. Like every company up here desperately needs people, it's crazy compared to the job market in my home city of Chicago. Or everywhere in the US I guess. The hiring process was I walked in and filled out an app. No interview of any kind, it was just "you start in 2 days."

Have felt under the weather this whole weekend but that's meant instead of going out I've been able to complete job applications, watch movies, play games, and even finish a whole book. Kind of have energy at random times so it's strange that a totally unplanned weekend has gone better than if I had tried to execute my own plans.

Today I was just working with the woman that trained me, and the two people that started after me, and we were super busy, with stuff in the store breaking down, and we managed to stay ahead of the lines and everything fine. It was probably the most fun I've had doing my job since I started six months ago

I grew a beard in October for my halloween costume. I cleared it with my boss at work because it's against dress code. Then came No-Shave November, which my department has let us do every year as long as we donate 20$ to the march of dimes. I just let it keep growing. Then Decembeard came along. Our department always lets us go casual for December, so nobody cares if you grow a beard. So I let it grow. Then came a lazy Janbearduary. I just didn't feel like shaving. So I let it grow. Now mind you, I keep it washed and groomed, and I trim it a bit here and there so it doesn't get too fuzzy in places, but it is getting rather long after 4 months. This morning my department manager came over to my desk. He said that upper management had noticed my "significantly hirsute" face. I thought I was going to be asked to shave, or at worst written up. Instead, it was relayed back to me that the words "impressive", "magnificent", "he looks like a viking banker" were used to describe my beard. To top it off, the company dress code was being updated to allow for mine, and any other employee's facial hair as long as it is well maintained. Sometimes I love my job.

Take a class on pop culture history if you can. The Mexican Revolution in the Popular Imagination is probably one of the most fun and informative classes I've ever taken. We opened up the class by listening to Rage Against The Machine and it introduced me to the absolutely amazing author Carlos Fuentes.
