I'm pretty sure I'm the only one here who still gives a poo poo about JLU, but Mattel's rep ToyGuru, aka Scott Neitlich, admitted on the Mattycollector forums that the last wave of unreleased 3-packs will NOT be coming out, even at the proposed price of $50 per 3-pack.

I am terribly disappointed, because I would have coughed up $50 for a JLU Blue Beetle and most likely for Guy Gardner as well. But apparently they won't be seeing the light of day (aside from the rare and expensive leaked factory prototypes that occasionally show up on eBay), and neither will Mongul, Toyman, Vandal Savage, or Static.

I don't think they really give a poo poo unless you're selling hundreds of them in some flagrant, public way. People sell resin casts of action figure parts on the internet all the time. I don't think you risk much if you hook a few goons up.

So The Star Sisters are all incredibly strange.

Mattel used clear plastic for one of them only to paint it over this ugly pink color. The anatomy for the chest also looks strange because it just looks like a detailess polygon instead of an actual human torso, allthough I think it's the default female chest just without any clothes on. The pink one has this crystal themed motif they attempted to pull off but she really just looks like she's a grandma who wears long underware and has ugly crystal bangs that look strange because they're upturned.

The other one is Tallstar who's gimmick is that she's supposed to extend. The extentions however don't even make her any bigger than a normal figure. She's maybe a half head taller when fully extended. However she looks the best of the bunch. She has some late 80's early 90's pop star outfit with parachute sleeves and suspenders. Her hair is this bright bright pink which really doesn't look all that terrible with her silve rand blue uniform.

The last one is the one who wears some yellow and orange carny outfit. It's not so bad, but she looks like she's a man in a dress. The face is really what does it, she has these massive cheekbones and a jay leno style chin. To top it all off her animal side kick is a bright pink eagle who wears a mohawk on a gold collar with a star on said mohawk.

Mind you the Star Sisters where axed from the Original Princess of Power Toyline, I don't think they even appeared in the show. But Gygor and The Giants were a similar situation and they came out awesome.

Did anyone catch the Toy Hunters pilot on the Travel Channel? Following the American Pickers model, Jordan Hembrough from toy selling company Hollywood Heroes goes around the US to find old toys to sell on. He buys two prototypes (rocket-firing Boba Fett and the Mad Bubbler from Thundercats which wasn't produced) along with a bunch of other figures, to try and break some arbitrary $20,000 sales barrier at NYCC.

It was pretty crappy to be honest. Jordan isn't very charismatic in the way the Pickers guys are. For a 45 minute show, over half of that seemed to be him talking directly to camera, talking head style. His voice is particularly grating after that long too, as well as his attitude being particularly immature and whiny on a couple of occasions ("you can't do cheaper? Aww come oooonnnn.").

One thing that irked me was that he didn't seem particularly knowledgable about his apparent specialist subject. He looked at some MASK toys and proclaimed them "the precursors to Transformers". Uh, no. You might want to check the dates on that.

It was a pilot, so if it does go to series, hopefully they'll change it up a bit. He definitely needs a partner or someone to talk to, though. Long stretches of just him talking aren't doing him or the show's future any favours.

It was okay, I suppose. The Thundercats section was pretty cool.

Totally agreed. It was a little weird to see him going ga-ga over Corgi Batmobiles that were still on shelves in my local TRU last summer.

Anywho, I can't imagine it sustaining as a proper series without it being a complete fabrication (which wouldn't be terribly unusual for that type of "OMG! Rare crap!" reality show).

Oh yeah, that was weird for me too. He was really crazy for those and they were everywhere and not in any way rare. Also, his mispronunciation of Corgi bothered me. Corgi, like the dog, idiot.

Oh, my God, those classic turtles are loving AMAAZZZZIINNNGGG. Those are so sold.

I hope they release the Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, too. And Baxter Stockman. And Metalhead. And Slash. I WANT THEM ALL.

I know all the new cartoons want to be true to the mirage comics, but drat it, we all grew up with the original cartoon and man, they really, really oughta put Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang and the technodrome into a new show. Dimension X gets no love.

The playset is also enormous and nuts. As a kid I would have flipped out over something like that. That's like something out of the 80's. They don't make playsets like that anymore. Hell, they practically don't even make playsets at all anymore.

That was exactly the reaction I had. I used to build elaborate sewer playsets out of cardboard boxes when I was a kid - I always was into custom-building stuff - but I still woulda flipped out for something that fancy.

I don't see adult me owning the playset at any point, just too drat big, but I might throw down for some of the new turtles. I really like the design of the non-cartoony ones, personally. I guess they're all cartoony but you know what I mean.

This is unrelated to anything, but i finally sprang for that MOTUC Battle Cat. I got a good deal on Amazon, so I didn't have to debase myself by giving mattycollector my credit card info.

In other totally unrelated news, I decided to make my own Superman action figure. I don't have the kind of cash to buy the Hot Toys movie one any time soon, and I keep being disappointed in off-the-shelf Superman figures. They all seem to have really weird faces, kinda badly-placed articulation and those rubber capes that look stupid unless you pose them just so. Nothing quite lives up to the memory of the Super Powers figure that I played with until the paint was mostly gone and the arms fell off. I am fond of the DC Direct 13" figure, but there's a certain fun factor that little pocket-sized toys have that big fancy display pieces don't.

I'm making it out of one of the dozen or so super-articulated wrestler figures I bought dirt cheap a couple years ago. The work is going very quickly, at least by my standards, so I'm sure I'll be able to show it off soon.

Quick work-in-progress pic:

The wrestler figure was a good base, easy to work with, but I started by bulking out his shoulders a little, covering the holes where some of the joints are, plus filling in some of the space between the muscles so he'll look a little more like he is wearing clothes. I'm not really going for a pure movie look... but closer to that than most comic-styled figures.

If this turns out really well I'll probably try making another wrestler into an Animated Series style Batman.

I did scoop up most of the second wave of Real Steel 4" movie robots, I've been getting a big kick out of that line (and it helps that the movie was awesome). They even did a running change on Atom so he lights up the correct color which is pretty neat.

I got an email a few weeks ago saying the initial figure for the sub would be available April 13; it doesn't explicitly say who it's for, but I'm assuming it's Metron.

Although, unless you bought a sub last year, I don't think he's going to be available outside of the secondary market since he's the club figure.

That's actually a valid question for people here who've bought subs for the other lines: do they ever release the club figure online for mass release at a later date?

drat, so I can't get a sub anymore and it looks like it will be available only to subscription members?

That's Manga Spawn. It had a more robotic head that was like a cross between a Gundam-type mech and an insect, which popped off, revealing Spawn's hamburger-looking head underneath (as in that photo). It also had dragonfly-like wings that folded out of its back. I was never into Spawn figures, but I had that back in the day because I liked its design -- both the rust-red version in your photo and a nice gunmetal gray repaint.
