Welp, I'm totally new to Android, so I can't help with this except that it could be an app. I haven't had any issues, but I don't have a lot of apps installed yet. I just checked and I was able to play Angry Birds on the charger and still charge the battery, though slowly. I wish I could be more help.

Does anyone have any idea how long it took team kang to update to 4.0.3 after it came out? 4.0.4 has been leaked, and since I just hopped on the AOKP train, I'd like to stay on it unless something goes wrong.

You don't say. So to them, the leak doesn't count since it's not official? And in any case, my original question still remains.

The leak "counts," since every rom is based on 4.0.3 (a leak) and has been for a long time now. I know CM waits for official source, but I don't think many other devs do.

I'm not too sure when AOKP went from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2, but it was using 4.0.3 by December 18th, which was a whole three days after the phone was released. I expect it'll be converted rather quickly to 4.0.4, unless there're rumblings that a new leak will be out soon.

Edit: I just saw there's an AOKP release for the Touchpad (as well as the Incredible S/2, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Nexus S/S4G). Has anyone tried that yet?

With CWM you will not receive the OTA update IIRC. If you want to be cool you could head over to XDA now and install 4.0.4.

I was messing around with Boot Manager, and I ran into the apparently very common issue of my phone hanging at the ROM splash screen. Oh well, I'll just flash my nandroid backup and call it a wash. Well, I also had the new radio update for my phone on my SD card. When I get into the bootloader, it immediately finds the update and tries to flash my radio. If I let it flash, it reboots the phone. If I cancel the flash... it reboots the phone. Whose loving idea was that? It still wouldn't be a problem if my laptop could be bothered to read microSD cards, but apparently those are just too advanced for a computer made in 20-loving-11, because Windows just tells me over and over the card needs formatted (and, trying with another card, the format fails). :argh:

So if I copy the ZIP downloadable from this thread to /cache/update.zip and then flash it from CWM (using this to stay rooted, hopefully), I should be golden?

I know I should have gotten used to this sort of thing when I homebrewed my PSP, but it's always a little scary trusting people on a forum like XDA (where half the posters are incompetent and/or incoherent) with something like my phone's system software.

I've made a nandroid, a titanium backup, and an adb backup just in case, so hopefully that makes me pretty bulletproof against something going wrong.

If you can hotswap the SD card with your phone just take it out to get through the bootloader and put it back in for recovery.

Alright, flashing that sounds easier than having to worry about rerooting. Thanks!

Edit: One more question! When ROM Manager offers to "wipe data and cache", does that include /sdcard?

No hotswapping. The SD card is behind the battery :downs: I just dug out my old laptop and used the card reader on it to delete the radio update.

I think I found a ROM combination I like. I've been using Synergy, which is if anything prettier than stock Sense, with Dodgekernel, which is a Sense kernel that allows overclocking. I'm all set until CM9 comes out and I start jonesing for some hot, hot Ice Cream Sandwich action.

Nope! It wipes /data, /cache, and if you have it, /sd-ext (used to store apps if you have a2sd, I think).

I've primarily used 2 ROMs on my Evo 4G since I rooted it, Fresh and CM7. CM is my favorite by a mile, I love it, but the GPS inevitably becomes an issue over and over (I've tried all the fixes, they only work for a few weeks at most) so I'm ready to switch back to a Sense based ROM. Is there one that anyone would recommend over Fresh? I don't care about features, I just want good battery life and working GPS.

The name is pretty cringe-worthy but I use the 'Swag=Off' variant of Swagged Out Stock and I flash the freedom kernel afterwards.

I've flashed the deodexed version with new radios. I'm assuming that aside from using apps that need root, we're waiting on devs to create a build based on 4.0.4 before anything drastic can commence?

I rooted my phone today and used AOKP for about 30 minutes before going with the 4.0.4. Battery & connectivity issues were the main reason I wanted to root so the improvements in 4.0.4 were too tempting to worry about using AOKP until the new changes were implemented. Is there any other way to run Nova Launcher? (never mind, I found it) That seemed to be a better solution than stock.

I was in your exact situation. I love CM but that GPS problem kept rearing its head (at the worst times).

I've been using a rom called "The Classic". It has some nice features, and it just works. I've had zero problems with it.

I'm trying to install CM7 on my Kindle Fire. From what I understand, I need to install TWRP (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm going by the instructions at this video here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqKZLMaRSgc&feature=relmfu

I've downloaded the Kindle Fire Utility, but when I run the "rub.bat" file, instead of giving me the options of what to do, it says at the top "'findstr' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

My Kindle is rooted, I have verified all my drivers are installed properly, and Google has nothing for me. Any ideas, or am I on the wrong track altogether?

I just installed CM9A0.6 on my TouchPad, and it seems not to want to boot into CM9. It comes up to the boot menu, boots into WebOS fine, and boots into ClockworkMod alright.

CyanogenMod comes up to the CyanogenMod logo, then kicks straight back to the HP logo and then the boot menu again.

Any ideas?

Works swimmingly now, and I'm getting into installing GAPPS.

I have an HTC Evo shift on Sprint. When running CM7 I cannot send or receive MMS, it just gives me a download link that never actually does anything.

I restored the Sense bases stock image and it works. What's strange is that I had this issue with previous phone hardware (had the phone replaced due to a hardware issue) and it persists even though I did a fresh install of CM7. I've wiped MMS settings, no change.

Way back before CM7 was released I was testing MMS with the developer, I changed user agents to help him test things. These older settings definitely are not still set.

I've had this issue for something like 9 months but it's finally bothered me enough to look in to it. Anyone know what's up?

Google didn't change their stance, they clarified the importance of carrier-signed radio apks, and how that effects building from AOSP source.

They never provided these in the past either. They are pulled off of devices with a script and packaged appropriately into a developers AOSP repo. JBQ has been providing scripts to do so for some devices, and may not provide them in the future (as technically pulling them and packaging them into one's own ROM requires some licensing agreements). It should be fairly trivial for developers to write their own scripts to pull and package these proprietary bits for AOSP builds themselves.
