Are you ok? Are we cool? Chill out, guys. This was a live episode, and the energy and excitement of actually being there didn't translate to the audio podcast. Just drop it and move on.

I also didn't think this most recent live episode was very good, although the Seattle one was as good or better than Brooklyn, IMO.

I'm thinking they should probably have more time in between the live shows than they did Seattle and LA. Seemed like there was a lot less energy in the latter than the former.

Longtime listener now, I love playing UYD in the background while I'm just working on stuff. I can tune in and out and just do whatever else I'm doing. It's all thanks to goons too, I actually first found out about UYD in PYF. I can't really manage to recommend it to any of my friends though, since it's hard to actually get people to sacrifice a full hour and sit down to listen to a podcast. I only manage to because I'm a weirdo who likes sensory overloading myself or just busting out an episode of UYD while I'm trapped in SoCal traffic. Sadly, I still haven't managed to see them live. I have a lot of friends up in LA and I drive there regularly since it's only an hour or so, so I was planning to catch them at the Largo but being the procrastinating motherfucker I am I didn't bother checking in on the ticket situation until a week or two before and by then it was obviously sold out. Definitely want to catch them next time they do a live show in LA though. So many classic moments for me, though my flatout favorites are...the random silly "tranny cat" jingle (Is your cat bi? My cat's gay. Lesbian cats love tranny cats) Seth just comes up with and goes into and Seth's screaming about "GODBAMAAAAAAAA! I CAN'T loving SLEEP BECAUSE OF GODBAMA! HOW THE gently caress AM I SUPPOSED TO gently caress BECAUSE OF GODBAMA?!" after Jah mentioned that survey about Americans being furious and full of anger. Actually, I think those were all in the same episode, really solid one. I don't always vibe with Jah's steez though, since he slept on Breaking Bad and totally dissed Brother Ali in one of their rap lyric episodes despite the fact that Ali's hands down awesome. Still, I must admit I've picked up a few cool artists because of the random beginning/ending songs Jah sticks on the episodes.

bango skank posted:Whaaaaaaat? What episode was this? Thank god for Weck's Wiki... Episode 65 they do Brother Ali's "Star Quality" for their "Hip Hop Song of the Week" and I was really surprised by Jah ripping it apart like it was some Soulja Boy poo poo or something, especially because his taste is usually on point. Mind you "Star Quality" isn't some amazing song or anything but he just slowly chewed over/analyzed every line and any lyrics could be framed as asinine under that level of scrutiny. As for sleeping on Breaking Bad, I don't know exactly, I seem to remember it was back when BB first started in early 2008. So probably an episode in late January 08 or sometime in February 08? I can't really track it down in Weck's and I'm not going to rove through the podcasts for it. It's not like they straightup dissed it or anything, they just didn't really seem to buy into the hype or consider it interesting or worth checking out, though they never reassessed it later on (as it grew more and more successful and acclaimed) so who knows. Props to Jah for highlighting a few awesome Q-Tip songs though, I was definitely missing out sleeping on that guy.

I think it was Seth that wasn't down with Breaking Bad. I've been going through all the eps starting from the first one and I'm up to the early 100s now, its somewhere in there. Jah asked Seth what he thought about Breaking Bad and Seth just replied he'd seen the first two episodes and they were wack.

Yeah for someone who watches so much TV, Seth never really likes the awesome dramas. More just the reality stuff.

He mentioned having Homeland and, I think, Boardwalk Empire on his DVR but said that those are just "his shows" and not the kind he'd give as UYD TV picks. So, I guess he likes at least some dramas.

If I was smart, I'd download every UYD and burn them to a DVD. Same with stuff like You Look Nice Today. This stuff won't be online forever, and I want to always be able to listen to it. That's right, I'm a podcast hoarder.

It's got the Friendship Porn aspect to it (not my phrase, but I believe it was coined by my buddy, forums user The Capm). I like UYD because of the way Seth and Jonathan get along with each other. YLNT has the same thing going for it, but with three people instead. All of them are really entertaining on their own, but the chemistry is great and you can really tell that they love doing the show. Humor is really subjective, so I can't guarantee you'll like it. I think it's the best podcast and it's a shame that they aren't doing it anymore. UYD is about current society, while YLNT is about three individuals being embarrassed about their pasts. If you like Jonathan or Seth revealing personal stories more than screaming about TV, you'll like this. It's less irreverent and more absurd, but also much better-produced and faster paced. If you're looking for a good entry point, hit up "Sacks-Minnelli Disease" or "Truck Spank". One thing you'll find disappointing is how quickly the episodes run out. No other podcast can compete with UYD for sheer volume+quality. If the worst thing you can say about something is "Well, it ends", then it's probably worth checking out.

Jah really really blew what Seth said out of proportion and was being incredibly obtuse about the whole thing. I was really glad that he wasn't totally in the right frame of mind because of the carbon monoxide leak or whatever.

Yeah, given how laidback, satirical, and chill they are with each other 99.99% of the time I'd believe it as just breathing in horrible fumes. Incidentally, seems like they're still down. Oh well, at least I have my old episodes.
