Can we get over the idea of TV being scripted already? There are no television shows that spend time and money lugging lights, cameras, props and people to remote locations only to ask the presenters to shoot the poo poo and riff a bit for the camera. Sure, maybe some of its best moments were perfect ad lib. But if they realized they had such a perfect moment but a poor shot of it, they are professional enough to shoot it again without you being able to tell. For a challenge, the storyboard would obviously say "the three guys meet up at place X and each person says their car is good and the two others are crap". Knowing that, everyone directly involved would be trying to come up with good lines for that scene. Would it be written down word for word? Or maybe just the punchline? Or maybe it was changed two or three times while shooting? Who knows, that can change, same thing with movies. It is a television show that can base most of its success on the concept of three weird old men being funny together. How much of it is an illusion and how much is real doesn't matter, because first and foremost it is a television show.

You know they're naturally funny enough together that the dialogue might as well be real, so that's good enough for me. They just script enough high points to make sure they don't forget any of the great stuff that comes up in rehearsal, I'd imagine. I do love when they let candid little bits slip through, like Jeremy saying "Princess Diana had one" (of the mine-clearing machines), which made the cameraman loving lose his poo poo along with the rest of them.

Nick Love is the oval office responsible for Danny Dyer. For that he should be taken into the streets and flogged then shot. Last time I nearly turned it off was the demolish a house with Army vehicles bit. This one actually made me do it. Ryan Reynolds was a good guest and while by the numbers the Corsa was ok. I'm really beginning to be annoyed by the presence of Richard Hammond.

That was a great episode, though I was surprised to see Jeremy so against explosions and crazy stuff, like he was during the VW Commercial he made with James. Ryan was great too, he wasn't suffering from a hang-over or anything which was nice.

One of the funniest newses in ages (and which contained actual news too!), an entertaining guest for SIARPC and James taking the piss out of the entire Power Test concept. But then nope, got to get in the horribly telegraphed and overlong scripted buffoonery where the presenters play up their personas as if they are literally retarded!

I think this is the first episode where I liked the guest section more than the main event. I hear those North-Northern-Americans are quite backwards, so that might have something to do with it.

I think the car chase segment would have been better if they actually took the job seriously. The bits where Jezza was explaining the bits about the camera systems and whatnot were very interesting. Sometimes when they goof off with things works better (the one where they try to fix the road for example), but in this case I believe a more straight approach would have been the winner. All in all though it wasn't a awful episode, the weakest this series for sure but still better than a lot of the awful episodes the last few series.

Car chase would have been better if it was just Clarkson agitating the director, Hammond is like a pantomime actor in anything this heavily scripted. Ryan Reynolds was one of the best SIARPC guests. Its crazy how many superfast laps they're getting lately. Tom Cruises lap looked so on the edge I thought it'd be on top for ages but its been repeatedly smashed since.

I couldn't have agreed with May more. Momentum driving is awesome fun in slow cars - carry as much speed through corners to save from trying to accelerate.

Watched the episode last night. SIRPC was excellent, which was an pleasantly odd thing. I do have to say that, first episode of this series aside, the stars have been fairly interesting, and hope that it's the norm instead of the exception. Fiat Panda? Never thought I'd want one, but James probably pumped sales for that little box by 10%. Fiat should give him one as a thank you. Car Chase movie scene? I could have taken it or left it, to be honest. In a few parts I was physically cringing because it felt so forced, but the caravan explosion did make me giggle a bit. All in all, I'd give the episode a solid 7. Not as good as Vietnam or the Africa Special, but not as horrible as it could be.

I actually quite like the concept of the car chase scenes - film a car chase for a movie in the most stupid (and boring) way possible. But cunningly do it so that, with post production, it comes out like a real movie chase scene. Big surprise. Everyone cheers. Pity that it took 20 minutes of boring poo poo to get to a 30 second payoff right at the very end of the show, by which time I'm guessing a lot of people had either turned off or were no longer paying all that much attention.

The cut chase scene wasn't actually that good either. Switching camera angles every 0.3 seconds doesn't make things exciting, it just makes it look stupid.
