Maybe I'm in the minority, but I prefer my Riff Raff to either snort coke and flow about how he's the rap game Lenny Dykstra (Option A) or to be so selfless that he'll help youngsters achieve their dreams of "flowing" (Option B). Riff Raff has grown so much since MC Serch first graced the nation with his presence. He truly is a man for all seasons.

Riff Raff is the most aptly named rapper next to Fat Joe and Crunchy Black. Busdriver had a good interview in avclub. Talks about him being an idiot, paving the way for Odd Future (real interesting), and his shift from rhyming to producing.

B L A C K I E also makes some really good noise rap and is probably the closest thing out to Death Grips. Dälek is he other artist that jumps to mind. They aren'y quite as aggressive but they make great soundscapes for the dude to spit over.

Not sure what's going on here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oca5xnPeCRU It's sometimes frustrating that for every interesting socially-conscious but still awesome and on point song Killer Mike releases he also releases like thirty really generic songs with random dudes. Still, his last album was one of my favorite rap records of 2011.

I finally got around to listening to Metro Zu's Mink Rug this weekend. I can dig it. The output from all these young doods is nuts. She Joggin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNx8_4kKFrw This is my favorite. Now I never listened to MDTBF so this might just be the Runaway beat but I really feel this poo poo. Also, what are some of y'alls favorite mostly remix mixtapes? Stuff like No Ceilings, There is no Competition, Life at 30k etc. Like what J. Cole did on The Warmup, but good.

I started out with Beasty Boys. What are they, 50% ironic? e: Dunno what your definition of real is but Stones Throw are real imo and also full of intentional irony. Rap is being gradually reduced to irony (even if these "real" rappers don't acknowledge it) because its repeatedly covering the same ground. If there's one thing that's never found in "real" hip hop, it's irony and forms of humor. It is a very serious culture. No goofballs allowed.

We've discussed why nerdcore is irritating before (no real story to tell, no real apppreciation for the art of rapping, etc) but really the only reason you need is that them nerdcore motherfuckers just be insufferable.

Tactical Grace posted:I started out with Beasty Boys. What are they, 50% ironic? Glad you were kind enough to declare what real is before i had a chance to answer. Also what/who on stones throw you think is filled with all this intentional irony? Also if covering the same ground reduces something to irony, there hasn't been a genuine rock song in roughly 30 years. (BTW I think essentially everything you said is not only wrong, but retarded).

Also more on some recent stuff I've been listening to a lot recently. The Schoolboy Q album is really nice. Some very interesting production throughout. Oxy Music is a baller song and prob my fav of the album. Honestly I thought the song with Kendrick is one of the weaker on there. And it made me reevaluate ASAP Rocky as a rapper, he's got a real nice verse on it. Speaking of which, it was somewhat surprising to hear him on here, although it seems to be a much bigger trend now of all sorts of rappers working with each other. I guess since you can do everything remotely it's prob easier now but I think it can't help but produce better music to have a bunch of dudes all (hopefully) influencing each other. And the new Alley Boy mixtape also bangs really hard. The slightly more political bent isn't something I really expected. Also imo outside of a couple isolated cases (Lif, Sage Francis occasionally), this is how "political" rap works the best-not beating you over the head with preaching and conspiracy theories.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rljZ8ZkpIMw Kendrick put this out today and its probably the best thing I've ever heard from him. It goes from sounding like Anticon to more modern spacey heavy beats on the verses. Never listened to Gunplay before but he comes correct on this.
