I didn't like it better than the UK version, but this latest episode of TGUSA is loads better than any episode from the last two seasons (except the alaska special).

From that last TGUS ep they seem to have gelled with each other as hosts, I really enjoyed it. Are Peterbilts really that much faster than Volvos or was it just discreet vehicular nationalism? That was ridiculous considering how much of a headstart Rutledge had.

There might have been a limiter on one and not the other? No idea otherwise.

Found this when i was checking the spelling of Rutledge's name for the last post. He seems like a pretty ok guy both in that and the truck episode. Hopefully they can settle into more real personas on the show instead of the caricatures they've been heretofore http://jalopnik.com/5885171/top-gear-usa-host-rutledge-wood-is-not-a-cake+eating-hipster

The only one I still don't like is Ferrara, replace him with Carolla as intended and we've got a drat good show. I'm hoping for more Explore America episodes like the Alaska special.

Ferrara said he was going 65 so I'm assuming the Volvos had limiters enabled on them. The Peterbilt either never had one or it was disabled. There's no way that even with how they are geared that 65 is the fastest a semi can go.

I really like TGUSA, but they really need to stop with the whole blatant sabotaging of each others stuff. When they were all divvying up what stuff was going to be crushed you just knew that someone would end up just wantonly wrecking someone's stuff just for the hell of it. It's funny every once in a while. Not funny in every single episode.

It's nowhere near the TGUK lorry challenge though. If nothing else, Jeremy's fire was much more impressive.

Sorry, when I say movies I meant film/video industry. I'm just trying to think of a use outside of the film world where you'd need to gyro-stabalize a 20-100lb object at the end of a crane that's able to do a full 360 in matter of seconds. The head op is usually the camera operator on the shoot, sometimes the DP, very rarely the director.

Really all I want from TGUSA is for them to sound a little bit less like they're reading their banter off cue cards and putting up LAUGH signs for the audience. The thing about TGUK is that even when their ribbing and taking-the-piss is staged and rehearsed, it sounds like it could be spontaneous, because they just know how to sell it. (Plus when they interact with the audience and they get to improvise, it's just as funny as anything they've got prepared.) The TGUS guys still make me feel like I'm watching goddamn Dave Coulier hosting America's Funniest People back in the late 80s.

But the camera head controls should be fairly standard, I think Preston makes a controller that's fairly popular. Certainly anything a camera op with some experience would be able to handle. Maybe he'd be labeled as B Camera Op but it'd only be a title difference, as he'd be doing the same function as an A Camera Op would be doing just with different equipment. Mind you, the biggest thing I've ever worked on was sub 1-mil projects in Seattle, so I havn't really see gear like this much up here.

It wasn't much better when James and Hammond kept doggedly at it for another year or two. Yes let's spend ten minutes reciting prices of five-year-old Volvos that have been advertised in local newspapers.

Is it just me, or did it sound like the Bentley was on winter tires up against the Ferrari on something else (summer!?)? Loved the challenge in the end.

I'm sure this isn't really possible due to all the drat commercials the American version has (it's literally 20 minutes shorter than the UK), but I really want to see the build-up phase of the cheap car challenges. This movie one could have been better if they had shown Tanner screwing those hinges onto the doors or Rutledge gluing all those drat buttons onto the dash. And I was kinda surprised when Adam mentioned that his Duster had a six. I guess when you only have two grand you can't even get a 318, huh? (Or proper brakes, holy poo poo.)

Christ the filming on the FF segment was amazing. I'm glad they tackled the FF review the way they did, I was almost a believer in the FF when I first heard about I almost believed the whole everyday Ferrari scenario they sold it as. Once you see that it's 2" wider than a Range Rover, not that great off road and really not much of GT car. I've always thought that their luxury coupe range were all pretty ugly anyway. Also Fisker are up the creek financially http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/19/analyst-predicts-fiskers-demise-spokesman-says-thats-prematur/ Shame really, I kinda think the "range extended electric" is probably the best way forward at this time (though plenty of other people are doing better than them.
