I hate Atlus so much, I buy all of their games new. Even though I know they just want to feed on my fan tears. Speaking of fan tears, some of the new entries revealed in the never ending pile of new Persona 4 merchandise I sure would like to have are some very nice Figma figures of Chie and Yukiko.

I'm surprised it took them so long to put out a Chie. More so that there is no Naoto since I figured that character was super popular in Japan.

Hey! Yukiko doesn't have a flat character! It's just...really subtle. ETA: I'm assuming they're just merchandise-whoring out the female characters in the order they appeared, though. Not that they aren't whoring out the male characters as well. (Please note that I am not responsible for any brain damage or eye gouging that may occur as a result of clicking that link and seeing a near-naked human Teddie.) Also! "Chibi" figurines of Naoto and Nanako and Chie and Rise. I would love the Nanako one! Catalina fucked around with this message at 04:59 on Feb 17, 2012 |

Personally I'm looking forward to the Aigis by Alter. Not a figma. Figmas are pretty good value for money but.. are considerably cheap in quality. There can never be too many

That's the second Aigis figure from Alter, this time based on the Shigenori artworks collection cover. The original one from Alter came out in 2007 and is almost nowhere to be found by now, I've seen it being sold NIB between $250 and $700. The Figmas are posable action figures, whereas the Alter are statues. The new Alter one is still like $120 I think, was supposed to come out last month but they delayed it. Hope it ships before the end of February.

Atlus seriously need to figure out their Euro Distro plans beyond "Ah, some idiot will pick it up for us". Sure it's only remakes of Devil Survivor now. But there will be tears once it's, say, Strange Journey 2 or Etrian Odyssey 3D. Then again, if Nintendo hadn't hosed with region locking in the first instance, we wouldn't be in this mess. Good going there, you jerks

Well, I finally got through the first 7 days on DS:OC After I got a couple of Phantasma/Flight demons it was super easy to defeat Belberith and Babel. I didn't realize I had to use the power Babel was weak against. I got the overlord ending. I'm now moving on to the 8TH day and am now stuck where Amane fights against the Anti-Overlords god drat are the AI stupid. Twice now I've had a character that is not supposed to get killed die on their first encounter. I'm determined to get a final ending before DS2 comes out. I'll definately be replaying for another ending afterwards.

What is the absolute max I should put into Str in DSOC? I've seen the consensus is "8, but" and I would like some elaboration on what the "but" is, since I have him at 9 now and want to leave it alone but it's already lagging behind my other stats and I have three magic users now, so being more flexible for the time being is what I'm looking for. If 9 is one too much that's fine too, but I'd still like to know what the "max" is.
|
# ? Feb 21, 2012 03:14 |
|
The only reason I feel 8 is the max needed is because that's the minimum needed for Holy Dance. Pretty much any skill requiring higher Strength than that is not worth it. And any point put into Strength after that could have been put into Magic instead. "But", some of the Null/Repel skills require as high as 16. On six of my seven playthroughs, I didn't care. On my seventh when I fought the optional boss? Such skills were pretty much mandatory.
|
# ? Feb 21, 2012 03:34 |
|
Not to mention one of the Amp skills requires something like 11 Str, I think Fire Amp. Not really that important, unless you're like me and occasionally shuffle around the various elemental spells so that the MC always has the best one for the area.

I have a PS2, PS3, and a 3DS. Read about all the games and pick the one that sounds the most interesting! That's what I did after I got introduced to the SMT series through P3 and P4, anyway. (I ended up playing SMT: Strange Journey and reading the Let's Plays of the original Shin Megami Tensei I and II, myself.) Since you've played Persona 3 and 4, my personal recommendation would be to try Devil Survivor for NDS (or the rereleased upgrade, Devil Survivor Overclocked for 3DS). Devil Survivor is like a blend of Persona 3 and 4 and the more mainline hardcore Shin Megami Tensei games. It's got a very anime style, but the system, plot, characters, and choices get pretty deep. There are different scenarios and choices depending on who you interact with and when I think it would be a good stepping stone from P3 and P4. ETA: There's a good writeup of the series here: http://hardcoregaming101.net/megaten/megaten.htm with a table of contents is at the bottom of the page. I'd suggest playing Digital Devil Saga before Nocturne. Nocturne is infamously difficult, far more than either of the two Persona games you've played. DDS is a good bridge between those difficulty levels.

So you have Devil Survivor which is a fun SRPG with an unfortunate soundtrack that you can mute and Catherine which is a mixed bag plot and gameplay wise, but the vs multiplayer is worth it by itself. Too bad its local only and you have to beat the game to unlock it and by the time you beat the game you will hate life and yourself. But if you really must go back to the dark ages, go with Nocturne. Just steel yourself for lots and lots of dungeon crawling and a very minimalist plot. Other than the same pokemon it is nothing like Persona. Which is fine, but know what you're getting into.

Other than the Amala Labyrinth and Amala Temple, the dungeons in Nocturne are relatively straight forward and probably the best in the series. I've been replaying DDS2 recently and all of the dungeons have so much backtracking that I never really noticed the first time through.
