I just wanted to chime in and congratulate zari-gani on the new job, as well as thank the entire SA GCCX crew for outstanding work in bringing this gem of programming to the masses. I'll definitely be buying any DVD day one. Here's to a bright future for GameCenter CX and those involved!

Well, another episode is in the can. Of course it's an HD episode so it's going to take extra long to upload and I'll post it in the morning but it's done. I'm going to enjoy a full hour's rest as a reward. As soon as I cover something I forgot to reply to earlier. And refresh the OP with the Discotek stuff. And disarm this bomb. Crotch Bat posted:Not sure how on or off-track things are but I seem to remember the team(or RS, I think) setting a goal to translate the rest of the series in this calendar year(or I'd imagine at least hit 80-90% completion). That wasn't a goal, that was a joke. Doesn't mean it won't happen but I don't want anyone to think that we are actively pursuing that. Episodes will get done as they get done.

I'm happy to see so many people are assured of the quality of the DVD release and are eager to help support it. Very happy. Also, straight from Discotek's facebook: "The set will be available on Amazon and other online retailers. Amazon will ship to Europe as far as I know. It will be a region 1 NTSC set." guuuhhhhh that slime. Is the phrase "unique game" their code for "this game sucks but we can't cheese off our benefactors on TV" or something? I've seen it applied a few times to games they've shown and I just noticed they said it about Out of This World and now I'm sad

Ok, this is just too adorable. I was reading a few of the twitter accounts looking for pics when I saw that Urakawa actually responded to several English comments. The on that caught my eye was this one, from Billy Causey @Soryiu @uratokawa Greetings from America. I want to donate "Doom", the game that Arino could not get to work in LA, to the show. How can I do this? To which Urakawa replied @Soryiu Hi!! What's"doom"?

I wish I could give you some pithy comment about this game here but there is no way to describe The Genji and the Heike Clans. No matter what you think it is at that moment, it'll change before you realize it. The translator Nagoyan doesn't get a lot of attention because he doesn't post a lot but he is incredible. His skill is undeniable. He's also got a taste for effectively indescribable, super-hard, PC Engine games about the afterlife. techknight posted:Wow. Did anyone in Japan play a computer game after Wizardry? PC gaming was effectively dead/niche material through the mid 90s right up until the past few years. Now it's starting to make a comeback, and the major japanese studios are starting to pay attention to it again, but as far as I can gather, home computer gaming was mostly (at least in the early 90s) done through more obscure home computing systems like the MSX, which I recall was home to a lot of great Konami releases. Just keep in mind that there are an enormous number of games from 1990 to the early 2000s that only came out in Japan, and only on consoles. That side of the industry basically took up all the slack that the lack of PC/home computer gaming left. Dominic White fucked around with this message at 15:11 on Mar 1, 2012 |

techknight posted:Wow. Did anyone in Japan play a computer game after Wizardry? PC gaming is _way_ underpresented in Japan. Most every software store there has this tiny segment of shelf space dedicated to PC games that are way overpriced. Or how does 13.000 yen (~130 bucks) for complete Total War series sound like in age of Steam? Needless to say, every store I went to had the same case, with about 80% of space reserved for date simulators, pornographic or not. Consoles fit better in Japan's commercialist nature, I think.

The Genji and the Heike Clans however is the official English title per Namco (except for the arcade game that it was based on which came out in Europe as just "Genpei" which happens to be a Japanese abbreviation for "The Genji and the Heike Clans" so it works that way too).

Episode #136 3/8/2012 Gradius I am happy that he is going back to this game which he did in season 1. It is also great to see him challenge a shooting game. I like too see him overcome his worst genre of game. I wonder how often the staff will let him use the Konami Command. For project cx, he will do the Super Scope for SNES. This is a great game for the season finale. Season 16 will start in April. joek0 fucked around with this message at 17:07 on Mar 1, 2012 |

I'd like to point out that while Demon's and Dark Souls are things that aren't likely to happen for a long while, those games are considered to be spiritual successors to the King's Field series of games, which debuted in 1994. So while PS1 challenges aren't the most common things in the world, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that the King's Field series could show up on the show eventually. It helps that King's Field was much more popular in Japan than in the US.

In the Genpei Touma Den episode, Arino disregards AD Ito's advice of taking the lower route. When he reaches Kyoto, he learns that he should have followed Ito's advice. Then Arino says that he did no want to take game advice from a female. Are women gamers not well regarded in Japan?
