Can someone recommend me some jazz flute music please? I liked the start of the piece in Anchorman, if that's of any help.

I've sorta been getting into flamenco / Spanish guitar type stuff, but I have no idea where to start nor do I have any sort of point of reference to really crack into the good stuff. Recommendations would be most appreciated.

I don't know if my post prompted yours or was just a coincidence, but I'm going to assume the latter.

Check out Jethro Tull's first couple of albums. The style teeters around quite a bit between blues and rock, but Ian Anderson's flute is pretty damned Jazz-y. I always viewed Ron Burgundy's "Jazz Flute" performance as being an Ian Anderson parody (which is funny in light of Anderson's claim that his on-stage persona is self-parody, while Ron Burgundy's is genuinely in-character).

It's not Jazz, but it's great music with a flute. See: (from This Was) Beggar's Farm, Serenade To A Cuckoo, A Song For Jeffrey, and (from Stand Up) Nothing Is Easy.

If you like his performances and enjoy folk-y prog rock check out Songs From The Wood and Heavy Horses.

It always irked me that the riff he plays prior to "Hey, Aqualung!" was guitar piece. Hell - Aqualung didn't have a flute in it! It was like the filmmakers wanted to make a Tull reference in the scene but couldn't be bothered to do anything more obscure than the band's biggest hit.

It was a coincidence, and thanks but I'm already a well acquainted appreciator of Jethro Tull :D It is indeed excellent, but not quite what I'm looking for this time.

I'm pretty sure it was a reference to Jethro Tull given that at the end he says "hey Aqualung!" and strikes a bit of an Ian Anderson pose.

I downloaded the free Syndicate soundtrack that was released for the reboot and really like the Skrillex and Flux Pavillion remixes so I'd like more like that but I don't even know what Genre it is.
Also I'd like some "dark" chiptune, more along the lines of Comptroller than Anamanaguchi.

Skrillex and Flux Pavilion are both considered Dubstep. If you don't want to just have music from these two, the UKF Dubstep 2010 and 2011 collections are actually really good introductions into the genre and good to listen to on top of that.

Eric Dolphy played flute, although not exclusively. There's flute playing on all the albums he released while alive though. This track from Out to Lunch rules:

Looking for some recommendations for rock music that has diverse instrumentation (like strings, piano, and horns). Something in the vein of Arcade Fire or The Protomen to name two bands that I've enjoyed recently.

I feel this is a trick.

Beirut, Broken Social Scene, Built to Spill, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, DeVotchKa, Grizzly Bear, Gomez, Fleet Foxes, MGMT, The Shins, Travis, Wolf Parade, Vampire Weekend, Yo La Tengo.

(+ funny option = Efterklang with strings / pianos and horns that's very unlike to bands you mentioned :) )

I can think of a ton, but I'll limit it to a few, varied groups: Spiritualized, Neutral Milk Hotel, Flotation Toy Warning. Also, The Advantage is the best NES music band.

While these may be a bit older than the bands that you listed, The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers and The Doors' The Soft Parade both have rather diverse instrumentation in their songs.

I know most of the big old hardcore bands, black flag, minor threat, void etc. Listen to lots of newer punk, mostly folk punk or where the genre merges with 'indie', but nonetheless trying to get into more sort of classic hardcore. Doesn't need to be old but don't want what is called 'hardcore today. What're people's favorite bands from this era or now with that sound?

Also a good compilation would be awesome does an SST one exist?

There are a lot of compilations from the time that are definitely worth checking out, the est ones are regional but a few are all encompassing.

P.E.A.C.E./War is one of my favorites, has bands from the US and Europe (and at least one Japanese band), some well known, some not.

Flex Your Head is THE DC compilation (with Minor Threat, Teen Idles, Youth Brigade, etc).

This Is Boston, Not LA is self explanatory.

We Got Power is all over the place but has a lot of gems.

As for individual bands here are some random ones:
Jerry's Kids
Youth Brigade (NOT THE LA ONE, AVOID THE LA ONE)
AK47
Disappointed Parents
F
Urban Waste
Youth of Today
Judge
JFA
The Grim
Koro
Last Rites/Negative FX
Antidote

Just to be clear: if someone asks for recommendations in a genre, and you know nothing about the genre except the single artist that every insufferable college student knows, you absolutely should not reply.

I'm looking for a bit of an odd recommendation, because it's a genre I really like and is rare as all hell: "Updated" Spaghetti Western music, mixed with another genre - most often rock, metal or industrial overtones but I'm pretty open.

A great example would be a couple of the short tracks on the Escape from LA soundtrack. I've been fortunate enough to run across this sub-genre a few other times, but generally only a song here or there, or part of a song.. never something approaching an album or band that does this sort of thing.

So yeah. Basically I'm looking for anything that's a unique take on the kind of music you might hear in The Good The Bad and the Ugly or films of that ilk. I'd really love it if it had an almost sci-fi'ish vibe to it; there were times it got close to this with the Firefly/Serenity soundtracks, but despite the whole theme, it was still very, very rare.

Take a look at what The New Law are doing - it's wild west oriented downtempo / electronica, so it might be what you're searching after (or it might not, as when I put on LA soundtrack I'd think you should listen to some instrumental NIN, especially taking into account industrial overtones, idk).
