I'm looking for rock with female leads. I'm not sure how to describe the genre, but the bands I like include Dead Sara, Tsunami Bomb, and Sleigh Bells. Any idea what else I would like that is similar? e: I checked out Pitchfork Media and I'm looking on Pandora now, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for...

Here's a few names off the top of my head: Wild Flag, The Distillers, Sleater-Kinney, EMA(never seen that video before, whoa), Bikini Kill, Dum Dum Girls, Babes In Toyland, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, X-Ray Spex, Be Your Own Pet "Female-fronted rock" is a pretty wide ranging term, so I've tried to include a few different styles and sub-genres in the list. I'd also recommend looking up the label 'Kill Rock Stars' and the Riot Grrl scene for more female-heavy bands in a similar vein. Hopefully there's something in there you like!

Glad to hear it, and also I meant to post another, slightly more-obscure band, Giardini di Miro. Their first album, Rise and Fall of Academic Drifting, is quite good and I think fits with the other bands you've posted. Early Hood might be worth a listen, too, but some of it's on the lo-fi side of things (and they bring in a lot of noise/electronic elements later on). I really really really like Minus The Bear. Problems: 1. Jake Snider can't sing or write lyrics for poo poo 2. That doesn't matter because everything they made up to and including Menos El Oso was amazing 3. The bad lyrics are endearing and good Recommend me something else with tight, ringing, exciting guitar work but with some vocal base. Generally I don't like anything ultra math rockish and MTB doesn't consider themselves math rock anyway. Not too clean, music rough around the edges is fine.

Recommend me some dub -- the darker sounding kind. I recently stumbled into deadmau5 (I know, welcome to 4 years ago) and I'm digging it. So far I've only found two tracks I love: Aural Synapse (Original Mix) Ghost's N' Stuff Any recommendations on good deadmau5 stuff? I'm not a big fan of tracks that have too much rolling and scratching and that generally sound like robots having sex. Any other electronic bands that have this same style are more than welcome. For furtherreference, and just to show how much of a commercial whore I am, I loved Levels, by Avicii and pretty much anything by Daft Punk. Thanks in advance!

It has a song where they yell out the number of bullets that were fired at a black guy in NYC. There well known and it's bugging the hell out of me. Something like "Decepticons" or something. Anyways "Howling Bells" is another one with a female lead singer though its pretty mellow and probably not what your looking for. Does anyone know anything similar to either the "The Blood Brothers" or "Portugal. The Man"

I'm looking for a fond farewell song. One where the place being left is seen as having been good, and where they're going is seen as good. And also isn't Graduation by Vitamin C. So far every farewell song I've been able to find in my search has been either "gently caress you and goodbye I've off to greener pastures" or "I'm going to miss you so much and nothing in my life is ever going to be as good without you." or has been Graduation by Vitamin C, which is just really bad. Preferably an upbeat song, but that's not as important really. A song that says "Goodbye, thanks for all the good times, I'm moving on." I vaguely recall hearing a song once that says exactly that and was upbeat but I couldn't find it and the closest I got to it was only sarcastically up beat and was actually about how all the times were terrible.

I don't listen to a lot of hiphop/rap, but there are a few songs I really enjoy and I'd love to find more like them. I think the common thread in what I like is a non-rap um... part (chorus?)... in it which is out of a completely different genre. Sorry for explaining this badly. I am in dire need of some piano music that would go well as background music for studying. I would use Jazz (The Fragrance of Dark Coffee in particular), but my neighbours disagree with my subwoofer and the basslines in jazz songs, given that I tend to study very late at night. (I intend to replacing the subwoofer with a more modest solution)
