Rent a phone in another country? gently caress them. These companies do so well, and they hurt customers in every way they can.

Deck was released today and i am loving it so far. I think i have found a suitable sbs settings toggle replacement. http://sbcoders.com/home/apps/deck/ http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/03/12/deck-cydia/ bonzaisushi fucked around with this message at 06:48 on Mar 13, 2012 |

Nice! Completely forgot about that. Looks really sleek and if it keeps most of the functionality of SBS then I'll definitely switch.

What is the deal with Deck? As far as I can tell it is gimped SBSettings that can launch apps, but only from the home screen (where, you know, I can already launch apps). It has toggles but, again, they are only accessible from the home screen. Plus, it costs infinitely more than SBSettings' $0.00. Am I missing some killer functionality here?

Didn't realize it only works from the home screen. That's kind of lame. EDIT: Does it only work from the home screen? Or are you just being assumptive?

Is it a whole different story (most likely) for the iPad 3's because the chip is A5x or is it still likely the same exploit because it is fundamentally still an A5? I know none of us know... just conversational speculation...

What I used: RetinaPad - forces iPhone apps to use high resolution resources. BytaFont - change fonts. KillBackground - this was mine and my wife's favorite tweak. It closes all background apps at once and clears the task switcher. WinterBoard - change various sound or graphic elements.

Would something like "reset all settings" let me clear out my iPad2 so I can give it to someone without eliminating the jailbreak? I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to transfer my '2 to my girlfriend's account without losing the jb.

Tethering talk: are the only options still just MyWi or TetherMe? I'm going to risk using one or two with my new iPad for some light safari browsing and maybe maps (aka only poo poo I can do on the iPhone as well) and hope AT&T doesn't throw a poo poo fit. And as far as pairing goes, would it be better (battery wise) to go through wifi or Bluetooth?

I tether my iPad to my iPhone with mywi quite a bit. AT&T won't care unless you're torrenting or something like that. But for normal usage they won't care, I don't think they can even tell that you're tethering to be honest. And I think Bluetooth uses the least battery. Whenever I tether I always use Bluetooth. It's just easier and you don't need to bother with a wifi password or anyone else hopping on your connection.

I was under the impression that bluetooth tethering destroyed battery but I don't actually have any experience with it.

I was in the UK last month and brought along my old iPhone 4 and asked the Apple store there about unlocking it and they said they can't, company policy since it was an AT&T phone. After I left London I thought about taking my 4S back there on an upcoming trip, setting up an appointment at the genius bar, and then breaking my 4S on the concrete just before the appointment to replace it under Applecare+ since all iPhones available at UK apple stores are unlocked. Would this work though? I have no idea.

Edit; derp I'm an idiot who doesn't read threads. Also just an idiot. Looks like my Settings badge question was answered just above. I've got another problem! I have 5 apps with available updates, but they're lovely updates that add stupid features or straight up remove functionality. Is there any way I can remove them from the update list, somehow? I guess I can replace them (them being the apps I have already legally purchased or downloaded) filez versions, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. I miss using the Update All button. I hate how the app store closes out whenever you buy/update something. vvv You're p cool, guy. Bummey fucked around with this message at 02:47 on Mar 19, 2012 |

Has anyone ever tried iControl? I was wondering how effective using an app like this to increase battery life. From what I can tell, it allows you to force the phone to turn off 3G when locked, but allowing exceptions if you are streaming Pandora, etc. (there is another app called Auto3G but it isn't updated to work with 5.0+). Just would like to know if this is actually helpful before I buy it.

I just bought springtomize 2. loving awesome, it replaced five icon dock and switcher with increased functionality and finally removed the battery icon from my status bar, which is something I've wanted to do since 3.1.2. Tons of customization and the online manual is well-written which is becoming very rare in jailbreak apps.

Which were the jailbreak hotspot WIFI apps that hid whatever parameter it was that let AT&T know you were tethering? I think PDAnet was one of them. Do any of the others do that now?

# ? Mar 19, 2012 01:39 |

I think they all do it but AT&T can see through it sometimes. For what it's worth, I've used Tetherme for a year now and have never gotten any tethering notices from them.
