On another topic, I think this is the first time I've heard Adomians real voice, and it's not at all what I expected.

If you want more Adomian-as-Adomian, he's back on Todd Glass today. Also I guess yesterday's ep was our weekly ep, but oh well it was a pretty long one and I enjoyed it.

More build-a-title pedantry, but Wrath of Khan/Con Air really shouldn't have been approved

Radio = how it sounds. Text = how it reads. Wrath of Khan/Con Air is perfectly fine for radio but not text. Some Like It Hot/The Others is fine for text (Some Like It Hothers) but not for radio, since Hot and Oth have different sounds.

Oh, I wasn't talking about the spelling, I was basing it on pronunciation. Having listened to the segment again, it's probably an accent thing. Edit: seems like it is. Phonetics wankery ahoy! Khan IPA: /kɑːn/ Con (US) IPA: /kan/ (UK) IPA: /kɒn/ Edit 2: if we really go into vowel sounds the whole game probably falls apart anyway. Feel free to just ignore these last 2 posts of mine. While I feel like I have a grasp of just how specific Doug is with Build-A-Title choices I think success has just as much to do with how drunk and/or high Doug is at the time, combined with audience reaction, as it does with his criteria for the game. But I guess you could make that arguement for any and all of the podcast, so as long as it keeps the bit going I'm down for cramming nearly anything together that works.

Also, if you "go crazy" over anything that happens in Build-a-Title, you're way too emotionally invested in a silly game on a comedy podcast.

Davincie posted:I don't even like Build the Title, its boring. Give me more banter and Leonard Maltin quiz. Yeah, it's a fun game to play with people in your living room, but it kind of kills the show more than it helps it. The guests usually don't care much and it seems to annoy the audience when they miss obvious ones. That being said I liked it in that episode. It was impressive and had some momentum.

I'm sick of podcasters being thin-skinned and changing their shows for a vocal, but narrow, slice of the audience that complain about things that don't matter. I have to assume part of it is trying to keep their metrics up in iTunes' absurd and mysterious ranking system, but I suspect some of it is the pathological need for acceptance comedians seem to have. I've noticed on several different podcasts now comedians taking comments about their shows absurdly personally.

I feel like the minority, but I prefer the DLM as a comedy podcast "with an occasional game", I'm just fine with the only movie talk being from the Leonard Maltin game. I don't really expect really deep movie discussion anyway when the host is stoned out of his skull and 99% of his guests are fun comedians. I really like the high-stakes championships game of course, but when it's low stakes I don't mind if they go over the rules for the fivehundreth-time, usually they spin it into something fun anyway.
