I have the i5 Mini 4GB and the hard drive was intolerably slow and by far the biggest limitation. It's not too difficult to put an SSD in there and it'll make a world of difference. Upgrading to 8GB RAM literally takes about 3 minutes and is really cheap now too.

Anyone have one of the May 2011 21.5" iMacs? (2.5 Ghz Quadcore i5 model). I was thinking I'd grab a refurb for just under a grand to replace this 2.2 GHz C2D MBP I've had for ages, since I never really take it off my desk for months on end, and the iPhone really takes care of most of the mobile browsing I've done recently.

I have a new and hilarious problem with my early 2008 Macbook's wifi. I got home from a trip today and it won't connect to the home router. It doesn't automatically connect, and when I manually try to connect it asks me for my password. When I put it in it gives me a connection failed error. I suspected a wifi hardware problem but it connects to my phone's hotspot fine. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it? Thanks.

I just picked up a Control briefcase-y bag because I realized that between my job and school I never had to carry more than a few notebooks, my 15" MBP, and my TouchPad. I really like it a lot. Also I wish I hadn't looked that link up because while mine is a pretty cool gunmetal grey and green, that denim and indigo one is rad as hell. drat, so is the canvas one. Might have to sell and rebuy...

I've had an monoprice adapter show the same effects on my 2011 MBP and after contacting them it turned out to be a bad adapter and I was sent a new one that worked fine. Maybe you got a bad one too?

I already asked in the D3 thread, but maybe you guys know better. I want to retire my old desktop which was a decent gaming pc I got 3 years ago. I find myself using my iPad or laptop all the time anyways. Diablo 3 is the only game I'm gonna be playing when it releases in 2 months. My current laptop runs it ok, but I would like a mac if I'm gonna use my laptop as a main computer. Does anyone know if I can find any good D3 benchmarks for the MBA? Will it run ok? Should I go for a MBP? It get really expensive because then I would get the 15" with SSD and high res screen, and maybe buy ram myself and add. Maybe I should just stop being impatient and just buy one the next time they update one of the laptops?

If you don't need to buy it now I'd wait for the next refresh. The Intel HD 3000 is getting old now and the Ivy Bridge version is supposed to be a decent graphics boost. What video card does your current computer have?

I'm just hoping that thunderbolt graphics adapters come out soonish because my air doesn't like gaming at 2560x1440 even with all the eye candy turned down.

My laptop's an older mid 2007 MacBook purchased for a dirt cheap price last year. I'ts recently developed problems connecting to certain wireless networks it used to be able to without issues. Fortunately, my home network (wpa2 encryption) still works great, but I haven't been able to connect to either my college's wpa network or my parents' wep network. I'm running Lion with all updates if it makes a difference. My iPhone works fine on these networks, so it would seem to stem from the laptop. Is there anything I could try to alleviate this issue?

Their custom order bags are still made in San Francisco, though these days I prefer Rickshaw Bags. The CEO of Timbuk2 left the company a few years ago and opened up Rickshaw and they make some great bags. All their Zero Messenger models are made to order in their San Francisco factory. I stopped by last week to put in another order and most of the bag builders look like Chinese ladies, but I guess it's still technically made in the USA.

I am looking at a 13" Air 2008. The seller says the hinges need replacing as the screen doe not stay up... Is this a big job? Is it a tighten up a screw inside job?

To actually answer your question, it's not that hard, just takes a lot of time. You just have to remove the bottom case, then undo a horrid amount of screws. Then remove the entire display assembly as the hinge is part of the display, and that's going to be expensive. Unless it's the only thing you can afford, I'd say hold out for a 2010 model. That 2008 model only has one USB port and one terribly nonstandard monitor port and uses a PATA SSD, which today is only made by a handful of off-brand manufacturers. They also have heat problems, the pata SSD is way slower than the SATA ssds in newer models, and they throttle the actual speed of the processor pretty heavily because of the heat. Also, the nVidia 320M graphics chip in the 2010 model kicks the poo poo out of the lame Intel X3100 / nVidia 9400 in the 2008/2009 models. Never had any slowdowns with any 1080 resolution vids on my Late 2010 11-inch MBA. The X3100 is barely fast enough to render graphics / text and 256 X 192 resolution Flash.
