I like the beat on the new SGP but why do the vocals still sound absolutely hosed? He sounds like he's talking into a computer mic or is doing some kind of whisper. Really really preferring him as a producer

dope. what albums are considered their best work other than Labcabincalifornia? I recently got into Das EFX as well and some of their poo poo is good but definitely not all. Not really related because it's two completely different styles but 1-800 Suicide is probably one of my favorite songs but i didnt really like any of the other tracks off of that album

The only other Pharcyde album worth listening to is Bizarre Ride II da Pharcyde. They fell off hard after Labcabin, imo. Labcab is still one of my personal favorite albums to this day. :)

A lot of people consider Bizarre Ride better than Labcabin, but I love them equally.

To further this Pharcyde craze, Officer has some of my favorite moments on Bizarre Ride. Within about 40 seconds, there are multiple references to Public Enemy and the Bomb Squad: there's the "Funky Drummer" sample used in "Rebel Without A Pause" and "Bring The Noise," the Flavor Flav-styled hyping done in the beginning, and the "I got a letter from the ___ the other day; I opened and read it: it said they were SUCKAS," which references Chuck D's first line in "Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos."

And now that I think about it, I remember recently hearing someone else saying "I got a letter from the ___ the other day" and giggling over the Public Enemy reference, but I can't remember who said it. It wasn't Ludacris or Bun B or whoever that Tricky person is. I remember it being rap and I feel like Kanye West was somehow involved, but I might be entirely wrong.

Listened to some of the songs and the beats are great, but couldn't get into the raps. It's too bad that apparently his producer (Shawn Kemp?) hasn't produced anything else ever. Sounds like a more jazzy early hypnotize minds

I can't get into most of the newjack horrorcore poo poo (I feel weird saying that, since it never went away), but I really dig J-Green. He's got Juicy and Paul's co-sign and has worked with them and Pat on his tapes. The Solo Tape is really good (except for the songs with 479 Krew, oh man they are bad), so is Da Caper and The First 48. On Codeine Dreams he dropped the creepy stuff and went full on trap rap, but the hi hat rushes on that thing are insane.

Lil Loco might be worth checking out too

as an aside I'm relatively certain that there's no version of Pimp C's verse over the OG Swang beat w/ sample intact but if I'm wrong please let me know!

I had no idea there was a different version of this song. woah.

Finally finished to listening to all that new E-40. Its all pretty high-quality but there are definitely some tracks I would have cut. Still a little too many songs with cheesy singing on the hooks. Like the two albums from last year, it could probably slimmed to one awesome album.
The track with Kendrick is pretty awesome:

The best songs are spread out over all three, and none of them have more than a song or two that I really didn't like. If there one was to skip I guess it would number 2; I didn't like either of the songs with Tech N9ne. Number Three's probably the strongest, at least in terms of features (Heiro, Kendrick, Too $hort and more).

Start with KRIT Wuz Here and then move forward chronologically. If you like Gibbs, then just go and a listen to a bunch of older stuff because honestly, that's who he sounds the most like. I hear old Scarface/UGK/Tupac and other Southern and West Coast stuff from the 90s in Gibbs. As far as contemporaries go, people who like Gibbs tend to like some of the people he's done features with: Pill, Dom Kennedy, Jeezy etc etc.
