Anyone out near Salt Lake City, UT? Have a friend out there who wants me to visit, thinking about riding out or bringing a dirt bike out. Looks like there are a few OHV areas and from what I remember driving through a couple years ago it's pretty flat west of there.

Finished day 1 of my BRC today. It was a blast. I had to leave my house at 5:45am, giving myself an extra 30 minutes to arrive a little early, and I'm glad I did so because I ended up taking a wrong exit on a highway and it took on what I'll call the scenic route. Fortunately due to my keen sense of direction I still ended up in the same area. However I don't want to get lost again, so I installed a 5 point GPS harness on my bike. Also, it's going to be 37 degrees tomorrow morning at 6 when I have to leave with a high of 54 for the day. gently caress.

Did someone say Ram mounts? I love my Ram steering stem mount. It works great! I have attachments for my dedicated GPS and my iPhone. I also have one of these water resistant USB port things that I tie wrapped to my handle bars. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/waterproof-motorcycle-usb-port/

I don't know if a RAM is any better at dampening vibrations, mine vibrates quite a bit. I also have one of the finger gripper mounts like Crayvex. I ended up using the smallest ones on one side for grip, with the medium length ones on the other side to help slide it in. One of the middle one snapped already at the curve when putting the phone in, so I'm a bit worried about it. I know from what I post it must seem like I'm heavy handed and just breaking my poo poo left and right, but I swear I was just bending the two longer ones back a normal amount to slide my phone into the springs on the other side, and one popped off. I bought mine from mounting innovations. Since I'm using two sizes I have some spares for that broken piece and haven't contacted them yet, but if another one goes I might. It's be annoying to have one snap on a trip, but not too hard to carry an extra I guess.

I don't have any vibration issues on my R6. I opted for all the medium length "fingers." It slides in very easy and the phone isn't going anywhere. The only problem I have is that I often forget to lock the orientation on my phone. Whenever I lean the iPhone changes to landscape for a bit. (Which is kind of awesome when you think about it.)

I just remove the GPS. Also never experienced vibe issues with my RAM mount, but the Versys isn't a vibey bike. I did have a poo poo time trying to use my phone (Captivate) on it in an Aquabox. It was like an oven in there, and the phone freaked out. The GPS is notoriously terrible on that phone anyway, so I just picked up a cheap GPS off woot.

Man, what is it about bikes that makes people so rude? Every peice of gear I have people see, the first question is "how much did it cost?" Does that seem rude to anyone else? I always hate that question, because it's always followed up with "GODDAMN"; yeah I bought a $300+ helmet, rather it than my head. On occasion people put it on and act like complete jackasses, slamming their palms on it,etc. It probably doens't damage it(?), but it makes me cringe, so I tell them to take it off and now I'm the bad guy. These are people that are otherwise reasonable with other high-$$$ items.

He's right, some people act very dumb around helmets. It's like an ape seeing a swinging tire for the first time. They slap it, bite it, rub their dick on it etc before they find out it's for chilling.

I've heard third-hand that sometimes you will come out of a store to find someone putting their kid or, worse, themselves, on your bike. Does this actually happen or was that just a "dumb cagers " apocryphal story? Cause that just seems really , like climbing into someone's parked convertible or something.

I've never seen this happen, either, but I certainly believe it does My scooter's been moved for parking more than a few times. Moving scooters and motorcycles is rampant enough that Seattle passed a law specifically prohibiting it a few years ago, but you have to be caught in the act by a cop and it's only a small fine (~$30?).

But coming out of the store and finding some bunch of weirdos posing their kid with your bike, sitting on it and twisting the bars back and forth, screwing with the switches and the shifter, maybe knocking it off the stand (this is how it was described to me -- again, no idea how common that scenario is)? Sounds infuriating and totally out of line.

Sounds infuriating and totally out of line. That's a totally different circumstance and I would gladly let the kid hop up and might even start it for him if I was asked. I have come out of the grocery store to a hispanic mom breast feeding her baby from the side door of her lovely minivan and 3 of her kids climbing all over my bike, hanging off the exhaust, pushing buttons and even trying to climb up my front wheel using my brake line as a rope. Please don't take that as racism, I don't care if the kids were pink, purple or orange. It's just what the case was, she had the nerve to get pissed at me for telling her kids to get off my bike. I was riding with a buddy a few years ago, and we stopped to get some gas, when we came out of the gas station, some guy was sitting on my buddies brand new R6, had it off the kickstand and everything, and we actually had to threaten to call the cops to get him off it. He was convinced that we should let him take it for a ride. That being said, always take your keys with you, kids! EDIT: My worst fear with kids is them grabbing the exhaust or the top end of the engine, or tipping the bike onto themselves. Kids generally dont mean to mess up your bike, its the adults you have to worry about Beve Stuscemi fucked around with this message at 22:36 on Mar 27, 2012 |

It's happened to me once that I've caught since I've been riding so I'm sure it's happened to others as well. I just try to be particular about where I park now. It's a hard situation too because part of me wants to tear into a guy but that the same time he's got a 4 year old or whatever that just thinks the bike is cool. I'm not as badass as Jax....he knocked that dude out and took his woman.

But really I don't know how someone goes past age 20 and still has the mindsight of "well golly that sure is a pretty bike; surely won't mind if I stick my swampass on it" My friend was always afraid of his Ducati outside because it had some auto-up kickstand; he was afraid people would sit on it and go to set it back down and whoops! I mean do people do that with other outside hobby/lifestyle things? Like sailboats? Or is it just bikes that make people rude? darkhand fucked around with this message at 22:51 on Mar 27, 2012 |

While I was going to get my trailer an older guy walked up and started to untie it with my wife telling him no. He just kept telling her, "I used to have one of these, I just want to take it for a spin!" When I got back with the trailer she was waving frantically at me. Harbor patrol docked right as I got to the boat and when they found out what was up he was escorted off the dock. I don't know what's wrong with some people.

I'd already unbuckled the boom and furled the jib so his rear end wasn't really going anywhere.
