The problem with Animorphs was that it went on far too long to keep its original audience, and then there were too many books for a generation of non-readers to get into.

True story. I apparently stopped reading halfway through the series, when the books were in the 20s. The total was somewhere in the 40s with multiple spinoffs and special books. I had to read the end on wikipedia because curiousity. Rachel dies during an assault on the Yeerk mothership, which makes them leave Earth forever I guess and makes all the Animorphs celebrities. As long as we're talking about book series, this one was another one that I read over and over again. Young me thought these books were hysterical.   Fluffy and Stanley  I was also really into Animorphs for awhile but eventually I stopped reading them because I could never find the next book in the series at the library. And being a young'un, the library was my main source of reading material.

The last arc of the series is pretty dark in general for stuff aimed at kids, Jake being about a hair away from a mental breakdown at all times, bunch of characters getting killed. When I'd heard the series was over, I skipped about 15 or so books just to read the last arc. Wanted to know how it ended.

This is from like 10 pages ago, but I watched the clip someone posted from the show Zoom (loved it when I was a kid) and when it got to the part where they introduce themselves I thought, "Hey that Jared guy kinda looks like the guy from Supernatural/Gilmore Girls." Then I remembered that that guys name is Jared Padalecki, it must be him! Wow, that's hilarious, it's not even on his IMDB page! I did a little googling and it turns out...the kid from the show died in 2006 in a car accident. It was a pretty bizarre conclusion to that little adventure. I loved the Wayside series, and it really was incredibly surreal and smartly written. My favorite kid was Todd, who always seemed completely at peace with the fact that he got sent home early on the kindergarten bus every single day.

I think Video Toaster screen wipes are very campy and VERY 90s. The Video Toaster was this inexpensive hardware and software system for the Commodore Amiga that allowed allowed people to do effects to NTSC video sources on-the-fly. Because it was so cheap and so ubiquitous, these effects were everywhere on television in the 90s.
