Anybody remember Exit to Eden? http://youtu.be/ukmJ0dkAVOA Pros: 90s as gently caress, complete with Sadeness and Return to Innocence on the soundtrack, full frontal of Dana Delany (and yes, the carpets match the drapes) and lots of T&A, way corny. Cons: Rosie O'Donnell in skimpy clothing, way corny.

My brother-in-law just posted a picture on Facebook of a mall directory from the 90s, which brought back a lot of memories. I think one thing from the 90s that doesn't really happen anymore is the whole idea of a "mall culture," kids don't really hang out at the mall in this day and age. Then again we have a tiny, lovely-rear end mall, so that just might be my area. That reminds me, if you have archives, check out this thread where someone posted the diary of a really white-trashy teenaged girl circa 1993, which was found in a dresser at Goodwill. edit: fixed url Coffee And Pie has a new favorite as of 00:51 on Apr 1, 2012 |

Treasure Mountain! This educational game came out when I was 4. Had to climb all over a mountain snatching elves, solving riddles and collecting treasure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8libUShcrE Man the brain is weird. Apparently I had an irrational fear of the elves. I could not have told you that five minutes ago... but when they appeared in the video, I gave an involuntary shiver and a sense of dread came flooding back. My subconcious hatred has survived for something I haven't seen in 20 years... I do remember being afraid of the other game in the series: Midnight Rescue! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCrEB73Mgrs Oh god what if robots appear out of nowhere in the middle of the night what if that Buh has a new favorite as of 00:58 on Apr 1, 2012 |

Malls are still big where I live, but that's because it rains constantly (Pacific northwest) and we have built really amazing elevated subways (skytrains) to all the major ones. Entirely separate skylines are rising around them. e.g. Burnaby's Metrotown mall (circled). Nothing was there in the 80s, now has a skyline that rivals every other city in western Canada besides Vancouver (distant top left).

If you watched any kids show during the 90's, you've probably seen one of these commercials. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD9i39GENWU I don't know why, but I always wanted to actually watch it just to find out what the hell it was about.

Even though I didn't really "get" it, the visuals and music were just captivating enough that my brother and I literally wore that VHS out. I haven't seen any of it since. Wow, I have actually never heard anyone talk about/reference these despite them being a very fondly remembered part of my childhood, and probably had a big influence on my musical tastes. There's a DVD release but unfortunately it's not of very good quality. Some of the videos have subtle changes, one was totally redone, and an extra one was added.

A lot of malls have iron-fisted rules regarding people under the age 18 so this may contribute to a decline in the number of kids hanging out there. The two malls by me have a "CODE OF CONDUCT" sticker on every door, including "groups of 4 or more minors will be asked to disperse or leave the property," because clearly any group of kids larger than 3 are a gang. Sometimes I wonder if management is trying to put the mall out of business.

Couple of Childrens game shows, UK ones though I think the US had their own versions: Fun House http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDLkbjfgSeU I think it was one of the better childrens game shows for prizes, and the rounds always looked a lot of fun involving bungess, gunge, collecting and throwing messy things around on inflatables (though the go kart were so drat slow) And I didn't know anyone who didn't want to go in the Fun House at the end for all the prizes. Better than Christmas! Just look at that Mullet! Good ol Pat Sharp (UK host) Run the Risk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKbds_MkTY8&feature=relmfu Another messy game show, lots of weird rounds, lots of gunge, running around and banter from the hosts (note Shane Richie from Eastenders fame). Always had a different and quirky final round making the teams dress up and complete an obstacle course or something. Used to be shown as part of Going Live!/Live & Kicking when Saturday mornings were filled with one long show. 3-4 hours of kickass childrens TV. Finders Keepers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=137iNha13Bs Nothing like a game show where you just trashed the place looking for clues and prizes, I always wondered if anyone if the crowd got wacked with flying debris and felt sorry for whoever had to clean up the place. It ran from 1991 to 2003 and was a staple of my childhood. Basically children competed against each other and their own parents for the chance to chuck their parents in a big pool of goo. Before they were thrown into the gunge, they were cranked up for extra height. There was also 50/50, but I didn't like that one as much.
