I had the worst dream ever, Arino was announcing that he retires Anyways, why I've got this feeling that the reason why we haven't seen any new translated eps for a while, is because of the Sugoi Squad...

Well, I know some of you guys have been waiting on me to finish up work on the Arino/Downtown sketch I'm subbing, but I can finally break silence on one of the things that's been keeping me busy instead! That's right! It's the English language debut of... Ero-Game Center SEX! The show follows the same format we're all familiar with, albeit with a perky new host: Incidentally, the title she uses here is Shunin, the same one Arino held way back in season one. And one or two... slight differences: In this episode, Shina challenges an ero-game classic: Naturally, she has the support of highly qualified ADs to assist her through the game: But remember those differences I mentioned? Yeah... That's right. Each hint or bad end costs our host an item of clothing. Of course the setting would not be complete without a table full of snacks and cooling pads: Shina manages an Arino-like stroke of bad luck by getting a game over before even reaching the title screen: But, demonstrating Arino-like resilience, she bounces back to clear the prologue after a total of one hour spent. As reward, Shina receives her own official Ero-Game Center SEX name card: What happens next? Where does the challenge go after this? That's where YOU come in! Project SAEGCSEX is in need of translators, timers, typesetters, and quality checkers. Ideal candidates must be familiar with common Japanese sexual fetishes and slang, have the ability to focus on grammar and font selection despite the presence of boobs on screen, and possess an encyclopedic knowledge of hentai games. There is currently no English language information available online about Ero-Game Center SEX, so this is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the fandom. I'm hoping to have some wiki articles and episode guides up by the end of the month, and I'll undoubtedly need help maintaining them. I am confident that together we can make Something Awful the premier source of information for Ero-Game Center SEX on the internet. Please feel free to PM me or mail me at NipponophileSA at Gmail if you think you've got the right stuff. I don't know about you guys, but it's still April 1st where I'm at.

In a move that will shock nobody I have to confess to being the Sugoi Squad. I thought a parody sub would be a fun thing for April Fools (yes, I waited until it was April 1 in Japan before posting). I'm not sure how many of you stuck it out to the end but if you did, good job. For those curious, the entire "translation" is made up wholesale. I just tried to make lines fit the video, were kind of funny when people laughed after them, and occasionally tried to get them to match up with a word or two that was spoken. I forgot that I wanted to change the font to Impact or Papyrus. FWIW the video did not use the same font as our releases. It used Arial, default font of everything. We use Verdada which looks similar but has several key differences. Also the process only took a couple of days. If I started in February I could have subtitled the whole nine hours. But that's going really extreme for a joke. New episodes are on their way. They will be here soon.

I'm only about five minutes into the April Fools video and I want to thank you guys for not doing the untranslated song lyrics and the speaking subtitles at the same time for the normal SAGCCX videos. It's getting quite annoying trying to read both sets of text at the same time. At least this is even more proof how awesome you guys are at subbing these episodes for people who don't know much about Japanese culture. Edit: "Translator's Note: Don't fax in messages. Sure are a lot of angry messages over on gamingcx.com's comments page. Either mad at the subbing quality or pissed off because 'we wait three weeks for a new episode, and the best they can give us is a loving APRIL FOOL'S JOKE?!' then try to play it cool by saying it wasn't funny in the first place. Suck it, parasites.

I don't know what's worse, the people so impatient for new subbed episodes of a show that's been largely ignored for practically a decade, or the website trying to pass off someone else's work as their own to the point of not even bothering to check if this was a legitimate episode or not.

I kept the SugoiSquad sub running in the background and thought it was hilarious. I loved the little touches, like the consistent failure to translate "Hai", the way "yosh" because "Yoshi" and Arino's annoyed sounds became "gently caress!" one moment and "what a shame" the next. Oh, and the completely unnecessary digs at "the other sub groups".

^^^ The torrent is working fine for me. Sugoi Squad was awesome. I haven't seen the whole thing yet because inaccurate translations are painful to watch even when it's an obvious joke (and now I'm worried that a lot of people won't realize that 95% of the lines are made up...!). But my favourite moment was when the text got smaller as Bucchigiri Rock 'n' Roll faded out, and I never get tired of "sugoi" being used. I only wish "what is that a drawing of? Rally King?" was subbed as "what is that a drawing of? Larry King?" I noticed this is the first time gamingcx.com credited SAGCCX on their website... zari-gani fucked around with this message at 19:01 on Apr 2, 2012 |

The weird thing is they have given credit to the SAGCCX team in replies to comments, but don't bother making it generally clear to all viewers. It could be that they are really dumb and it never occurred to them that they could simply link to the thread or give credit to the SAGCCX team in the video description. Or maybe they are giving credit in the most inefficient way possible in order to satisfy their morals while still allowing many people to give them credit or something.
