Bill Burr should call it the Tuesday afternoon podcast because that's how long it takes to download it. Oh yeah, I went there.

Downloads are usually < 10kb a sec, even if you download it it days after it is released. The podcast itself is the same. He's a funny guy, but since he rarely has guests it tends to get repetitive. I recommend listening to it once a month or so rather than every week so it doesn't get stale.

I'll second TOFOP, especially if you like Walking the Room. A little too much Batman discussion for my taste, but it's always an entertaining listen.

I tried listening to a random Totally Laime podcast last night since I was bored. I didn't like it at all. I wanted to hear more about the guest but it basically turned into a thing where Elizabeth(?) talked about her doing a juice fast for 20 minutes and then 3/4ths through the show she said "Oh my god we're almost done and I have so many questions." or something to that effect. Also whats with the soundboard?

The last episode I listened to, Elizabeth was talking about this woman's spiritual retreat that she went on, and then talk shifted to her and her husband putting up a Kickstarter for the two of them to go on vacation in Paris, and I just went "gently caress this poo poo" and turned it off and never listened again. I think the soundboard is supposed to be ironic, like "what if we really liked this", except they obviously actually do like it.

Yeah, I've given Totally Laime a good 6 or 7 chances, but it's just obnoxious. There are a few episodes that are worthwhile because they get awesome guests for some reason (the Patton Oswalt episode is good, PFT is always great, and the Erin Gibson episode is pretty crazy) but she's just so precious and annoying.

I think Laime's biggest issue is getting guests. They got a surge of earwolf people when they won the contest, but that has fallen off and most weeks it's someone I've never heard of. If I remember correctly, they do it out of their house and they aren't in the easiest place to get to. That and the fact that it's mostly a couple talking about their marriage, has left me disinterested.

She also has one of the worst radio voices I've ever heard.

I don't have an issue with her voice, it was just confusing because in theory this is supposed to be a pretty straight interview type podcast yet it felt like the guest was being ignored so we could just hear a married couple banter about their lives. Which is not what I wanted.

Does anybody else listen to Qualcast? I started listening to it last night and haven't stopped since. It's basically two middle-aged men recalling anecdotes about the stars of 1970's British Light Entertainment. One minute they'll be reminsing about how Tony Selby would throw lawnmowers though peoples windows to intimidate them, the next they'll be reading from Danny La Rue's memoirs about how he used to entertain Pinochet and Papa Doc Duvalier backstage or reliving the tensions behind Peter Greenaway's biopic of Dick Emery starring Samuel L. Jackson. The first couple of episodes take a while to get going, but the pace soon quickens, and it's not as 'lol random' as my poor description makes it seem. The best thing I can think of to compare it to would be the barber conversations from The Armando Iannucci Shows. Z-Magic fucked around with this message at 13:37 on Apr 4, 2012 |

My "favorite" part of the Erin Gibson episode was when there was a pretty interesting political discussion going on between the women and then the dude did some passive aggressive, "I'm bored," thing to get them to change the subject because apparently politics doesn't interest him.

I think you could make a comedy film podcast thread and cover We Hate Movies, The Flophouse, and How Did This Get Made? (and any others out there). This way you could turn people on to the other ones they may not yet have heard. Also, we could refer to them using abbreviations like WHM and TFH and talk about how HDTGM sucks compared to WHM and TFH.

Interesting article. I always wondered what podcasts were paid from Audible.com ($15 per referral to 30-day trial). Really does make you wonder how anyone intends to carve out a profit from such a massive, easy-to-produce product market. Poor Earwolf Maybe I'm biased, but I think Doug Benson's approach of a kind of podcast-as-advertisement as mentioned in the article will end up being most successful.

I normally like How Did This Get Made? Jason always makes me laugh and there's usually a few gem comments in there. This week is just a mess. The guests are terrible, going off topic constantly, and they just keep talking over each other too much. It's not an excited thing like Pete Holmes, it's just frustrating and terrible. Paul Scheer even goes "Can we please talk about the movie?" Awful. Edit: Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas are really lucid and the guests just have no idea what happened and keep calling back to things that have been explained to them. This could have been a great episode. hong kong divorce lunch fucked around with this message at 09:19 on Apr 10, 2012 |

They're pretty much the same concept but both are consistently better than "How Did This Get Made?" despite having less famous hosts. Speaking of which... Does anyone listen to "Comedy Film Nerds" and if so, how does it compare to the three I just mentioned?

I listen to Comedy Film Nerds. It's more of a review than a "look at this lovely movie" show. They talk about movies that are new in theaters and on DVD and usually the guest has seen at least one of the new releases too and so they will talk about that for a bit. It's usually pretty good (especially when they have interesting guests) but sometimes are are just flat out ignorant (like when both of them didn't know who David Gordon Green was when they were talking about Your Highness and they just assumed he was some lovely new director that never did anything worth watching. Using IMDB is really hard!) but overall I would say it's worth listening to.
