We lost some good stuff this month, but to make up for it both Rocky and Dial M For Murder are back.

Edit: Oh poo poo, Days of Heaven is available.

Not the greatest movie, but definitely worth a watch if you like off-beat, foreign horror films. I think it should become a new Christmas standard, right alongside "Silent Night, Deadly Night" and "Santa's Slay".

Yeah, some stuff came back at the end of my queue after disappearing for a month or two:

Arthur
Funny Farm
Risky Business
Auntie Mame
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Creepshow
Chariots of Fire
A Very Long Engagement
Welcome to Collinwood

Also, last year's Submarine is up. I have no idea what it's about beyond briefly glancing at the synopsis when it popped up but a few regular posters were singing its praises a few months ago.

It was recommended a bit ago but I'll second the series The Universe as good science and space docs to zone out while watching. I really like the episodes on the planets to see all the recent stuff we've learned about them--like I forgot we've done awesome stuff like land a probe on Saturn's moon Titan, or crashed some probes into Jupiter.

So just got done watching this for family movie night and as a fan, lover, and advocate of the first film, I can't recommend anyone watch this. Every thing that made the first movie great, the crazyness of everything and the insane doctor and outlandish premise is tossed out for a gritty torture porn.

It's worth seeing if you like Malkovich and Kubrick, because his performance is stellar and there are a lot of references to Kubrick films. But the critical reception is correct in that there really isn't enough of a premise to last an entire movie.

Weeds season 6 was added (recently? I hadn't checked in a while) and I binged through it this weekend. I was never really interested in it until I first got streaming last year, tried it out, and ended up binging through the first five seasons in a week or so. The later seasons aren't as good, but still entertaining.

The first seasons of a bunch of The Hub's shows got added. GI Joe: Renegades just got added, and it's a surprisingly good show. The art style is a little odd, but the stories are pretty decent and the A-Team-style presentation is pretty cool. There's also Transformers Prime which is pretty good, and Ponies if that's your thing.

Thanks for the recommendation. I usually fall asleep to Cosmos, but I'll give this a shot.

Trying to fall asleep to Deep Space 9 has been a complete failure. Sisko's delivery is so offsetting you can't help but stay awake just to see his expressions and speech.

Orunitier is right. Robocop 2 unfortunately expired April 1st. I know because I made the unfortunate mistake of not finishing the last half hour. :downs: I've seen it several times before so it was not a big deal. I also bet you will see it comeback sooner rather than later because the other 2 movies are still up.

We really like your car, Mrs. LaRusso.
I've been using Hollywood Treasures as background noise and it's a pretty cool, vapid distraction. It's a SyFy "reality" show about Profiles in History, the auction house that deals primarily in movie props and pop collectibles. You get to see dudes checking out stuff like a shark from Jaws, touring Winston's studio, etc. -- none of it weighed down by some bullshit manufactured interpersonal "drama" cooked up by producers.

I also burned through the Vin Diesel Web series The Ropes, about a squad of bouncers at an NYC club, and while it's not *great,* it's better than it has any right to be. Seems like they used three mini-sodes to make one 24-minute episode, but it's all stitched together pretty well.

I was talking to some friends about Netflix today and all of us were sort of wondering the same thing. Can someone explain why Netflix ever takes anything off instant watch? It doesn't make sense to me; it seems like once they have it on a hard drive somewhere that there's not a real enormous cost to keeping it available. Wouldn't it be worth the storage space to be able to advertise "FIVE THOUSAND MOVIES AVAILABLE ON DEMAND!" rather than seemingly wasting time and effort (not to mention annoying the poo poo out of people) taking things up and down?

I'm sure there's a good explanation for it... right? Maybe it's really expensive to store/serve for some reason?

Oh and you should watch Rango if you haven't. I watched it last night and loved it so much I bought the Blu-ray today. Rattlesnake Jake is such a loving bad rear end I want him to have his own movie or even series of movies.

The streaming stuff isn't based on technical limitations, it's based on what they have a license to stream.
