What this sausage party needs is a big dollop of ketchup! Too bad I didn't make any. :(

Anybody know of this glass has been released to the wider world yet, or what ever happened? I absolutely love the design, but can't seem to find it anywhere (never showed up at any of my locals, and doesn't seem to be on eBay for way too much money yet).

Picked up another 6 of Nugget Nectar so it will be that and Chouffe Houblon tonight. Two of my new favorites for sure. I was also thinking about getting the DIPA from Mission brewery, called Shipwrecked. It was a 9.xx% ABV, looked pretty good. Any one have experience with Mission?

Oh no, there are some that are so far off 'drinkable' that they require a drain pour. They're worse than any bland macro. My only drain pour, in my entire life, has been an AB Wild Blue (so far).

I use a couple of Haley's Corkers. No need for anything more. Keep in mind that when you use them to pour, it restricts the pour quite a bit. Great for some beers, not for others.

Nah, go ahead. Just keep in mind that some of the more exotically-shaped glasses (pilsners, Sam Adams proprietary stuff) won't always get cleaned completely and that if you're not careful, the detergents will gently caress up the printed art on your glasses. The stuff you use in the dishwasher is usually really caustic compared to the stuff you handwash with in the sink. That's the reason I ended up buying glasses like this for tasting. Dishwasher-safe and shaped in a way that ensures they come out clean. Great bowl shape for swirling, they collect the aromas in the nose pretty well, they wash easily, and they hold a 12oz pour plus some head.

Which is to say, pretty drat close to what one costs at a brewery.

Those are great, I've really been wanting some glasses just like those. Thank you for the link!

I did this for about a year of regular use of my sam adams glass until I noticed that the design on the glass was being eroded off. I wouldn't sweat it if you don't do it too often or if you do it with a glass you don't care too much about, but from what I understand dishwasher detergent is very corrosive, so beware.

Got to try my first KBS tonight. And while that is an AMAZING loving beer, it's not worlds away from other stuff I've had. Very happy to have had it, would not expend a ton of energy to try and get it again.

Also had Dragon's Milk on draft, and that's a good beer, although not worth the premium it commands (at least around here).

Honestly, I think trying to live and die by a rule like that is sillier than drainpouring good/decent beer.

And, really, if you become a homebrewer you'll get over it fast. You wind up spilling a decent amount and after a few batches you realize it doesn't really add up to much. Especially if you keg your beer, you'll wind up dumping stuff from your lines or whatever.

e: for beer glasses, I always recommend these glasses: http://www.amazon.com/Libbey-pc-Poco-Grande-Set/dp/B001JJTXMC/ the quality is fantastic, the shape is exactly what you want. 13oz isn't huge, but it's not a big deal to pour another beer.

I understand homebrew, or draining a line from your keg, I, however, do not believe in draining a bomber I spent ~$10 on. Is all I am trying to say.

Got a growlette of Port Brewing Shark Attack yesterday along with a bomber of Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot Ale. Just got into the Shark Attack and I'm liking it. I haven't had many red ales but I think I'm going to start trying some more because to me it's kind of like a cross between an IPA and a stout which I'm really liking. It's really smooth for a 9.5% beer with hardly any bite at all.

I'll probably have the WTF sometime this weekend when I can devote a whole night to it.

Purchased a bomber of Sebago Lake Trout Stout. It's good. Rich, oatmealy. Tastes sweet, a little roasty, a hint of oaty sour, with some almost spicy hops. Very tasty, and easy to drink.

Poor head retention, however.

edit: ate a Lindt Lindor chocolate truffle and sipped the beer. Excellent combination. Made the beer taste like cocoa-y chocolate milk.

I can't remember if we've discussed Green Flash's Palate Wrecker (aka Hamilton's Ale) in this thread yet...

It's a triple IPA, totally unbalanced and really really loving delicious. Fruity (pineapple, grapefruit, mango, orange) and quite dry, with an awesome aftertaste that's pure yeast. A little sticky sweet, but given how hoppy it is that's not exactly unwelcome.

They're distributing in 4-packs for around $10-12...very highly recommended if you see it.

Many of the more citric/fruity hop varietals can, in large enough quantities (when used for aroma, not bittering), seem slightly sweet on the palate. It's not impossible to have a very dry, bitter beer that leaves some impression of sweetness simply from the hop flavor and aroma. Nelson Sauvin seems particularly good at this, in my experience.

CalvinDooglas posted:

nope nope nope. If this is A Thing it's going to show up in every drat beer I drink. I had a perfectly good Gubna nearly ruined because of someone's assertion of onion flavor. In fact I had to drink another one just to convince myself it wasn't true.

It's not showing up for you because you don't have that particular flavor sensitivity. The impression I get is that different hop sensitivities operate on a principle similar to people's interpretation of cilantro: Many people enjoy it, but a significant proportion of people think it tastes "soapy." Some research indicates this may be due to a genetic factor, or that some people may have a stronger instinctive reaction to the aldehydes that contribute the "soapiness." But there's definitely a difference in individual tastes and experiences that can't be immediately attributed to "you're a big crybaby." Taking all that into account, type "summit hops" into Google, and "summit hops onion" is the fourth suggestion down. It's definitely A Thing - it's just that your taste buds, olfactory nerves and brain don't interpret Summit hops the same way as those people do. That doesn't make those people dumbasses or Summit hops worthless, it's just different. The fact that the power of suggestion so strongly influenced your own experience with Gubna just shows how many factors tie into individual taste and interpretation of flavors.

My beer knowledge is pretty limited, but for me, a light beer usually has either strong citrus/pine flavors with some bitterness or wheat flavors, and a dark beer has more coffee and chocolate flavors with some general sweetness. Since I'm getting a somewhat sweeter vibe from the Shark Attack, I attribute that flavor to being more akin to a stout. I only turned 21 in September and my knowledge of alcohol was practically nothing up to that point so almost everything I know about beer comes from reading this thread from time to time V:shobon:V

panzer wolf is year round. i assume you're in chicago (local option), so any binny's or any half-respectable liquor store will have it on the shelf pretty much any time.
