How's Skyline south of where your down the mountain video starts? Looks like a decent road from google.

What's not to like?
I think I may need my own project tracking thread soon...

Bikes keep following me home, and parts for said bikes keep piling up on my floor.
While I was waiting for parts to gather, I picked up this gem of a YSR50.

The engine sitting in front is from a 77 YZ80.
I have already ordered all the engine parts, shock bushings, rear shoes, replacement graphics (So tempted to do a mini R1 body and paint) new clipons and doing a 12V conversion.

Pile that in with my RD200 restomod, the girlie friend's Yamaha G7S, a KX100 to rebuild and sell and a TDR250 coming to the stable soon and I have more than enough to fill a thread. Good idea?

I demand a full write up on each and every bike you have!

A separate thread would be pretty cool, I'd follow that.

race tires on road are a great idea, ask me!

Separate thread would be great.

Is that shed organised or do you spend an hour looking for whatever you're looking for at a particular time?

Can someone please explain what is keeping that rear wheel from sliding right off the final drive?

The axle? It's spindly as poo poo, but that's what's keeping the wheel in there. Old bikes have teeny axles/axle nuts.

My guess is ruined final drive bearings are keeping it on there. They've just worn grooves in the hub.

There's no spacers on the left side of the axle keeping the wheel hub against the final drive.

Sounds plausible, although I doubt this gets ridden enough to do that.

The axle has a shoulder on it that you can't see until you take it out. The axle is narrower inside the wheel and final drive. That shoulder and the wheel are what the axle nut tightens against, and then the left end of the axle is pinched in the swingarm to keep it from rotating.

It's so mesmerizing! My favorite part was when the guy started off, railed into the tire 2 feet up the track, then just kind of sat there looking dejected. Also I liked seeing stretched-out swing-arms actually being used for good. :v:

A group of judges should be giving points for the eventual dismount/downhill fall. The way some of those bikes flip over is pretty spectacular.

Why did the quad early on give up way before the rock face?

I like the SCHEISSE at around 11:00. Did the guy at the end win it? His bike looked like it went through the gate (albeit without him) but then it fell back down. Is that a win?

Because quads are the red-headed step-child of the off-road world and are used to being failures at life, so he went into it half-heartedly knowing that nothing he does in life will be praised so why try at all.

Or maybe I've been reading brotocross too much.

Edit: Also, you must love rebuilding your bike from the ground up if you participate in this. So many bikes yard saleing as they came back down. I remember seeing a Crusty Demons of Dirt where they showed some hillclimb stuff, and dudes spotting that climb were ready with big rear end hooks to throw through your bike's wheel to try to keep it from disassembling itself on the way back down.

Also, when a quad flips it's going to tumble for a while.

There are 1-2 where the riders put out a hand to try to catch the bike in mid-flight then rethink it. Amazing how the human mind can compute the offsets between finances, physics, and self-preservation and arrive at a decision in .2 seconds.

Here's another set, same hill, including a rather large dude on a minibike:
