I think I may need my own project tracking thread soon... Bikes keep following me home, and parts for said bikes keep piling up on my floor. While I was waiting for parts to gather, I picked up this gem of a YSR50. The engine sitting in front is from a 77 YZ80. I have already ordered all the engine parts, shock bushings, rear shoes, replacement graphics (So tempted to do a mini R1 body and paint) new clipons and doing a 12V conversion. Pile that in with my RD200 restomod, the girlie friend's Yamaha G7S, a KX100 to rebuild and sell and a TDR250 coming to the stable soon and I have more than enough to fill a thread. Good idea?

I demand a full write up on each and every bike you have! A separate thread would be pretty cool, I'd follow that.

Separate thread would be great. Is that shed organised or do you spend an hour looking for whatever you're looking for at a particular time?

Can someone please explain what is keeping that rear wheel from sliding right off the final drive?
|
# ? Apr 5, 2012 14:35 |
|
The axle? It's spindly as poo poo, but that's what's keeping the wheel in there. Old bikes have teeny axles/axle nuts.

# ? Apr 5, 2012 15:44 |

My guess is ruined final drive bearings are keeping it on there. They've just worn grooves in the hub.

I'd be afraid of crushing the intake filter on that thing with the side of my boot...

There's no spacers on the left side of the axle keeping the wheel hub against the final drive. Olde Weird Tip posted:My guess is ruined final drive bearings are keeping it on there. The axle has a shoulder on it that you can't see until you take it out. The axle is narrower inside the wheel and final drive. That shoulder and the wheel are what the axle nut tightens against, and then the left end of the axle is pinched in the swingarm to keep it from rotating.

There are 1-2 where the riders put out a hand to try to catch the bike in mid-flight then rethink it. Amazing how the human mind can compute the offsets between finances, physics, and self-preservation and arrive at a decision in .2 seconds.
