Mostly the delay is due to me procrastinatin' like a champ, but it would save me a lot of time if someone more proficient(read: anyone) could typeset my translation. And though I'm fairly confident in my Oriental, bouncing turns of phrase off a fellow Moon Wizard wouldn't hurt either. Once I sit down and commit to it, I can probably bang it out right quick, but I've also got classes and work contending for my time :(
anyway, you can clutter up my inbox instead of this thread:

If you could just post translation scripts that alone would be awesome. I'm sure there are some people around with the computer skills to do typesetting and such, but people who can translate well (especially a manga like this) are pretty rare.

Thanks again!

Story has a quicker pace for this volume with a bit of action.

Update, it seems I was mistaken in my last post. Only half of Volume 5 was translated. Today, the rest of the chapters for Volume 5 were released which features the mock battle. Lots of action, pretty fun read.

delikpate that thing!
Otoyomegatari 21, Jackard on drums and myself on vocals.

Items of note on the translation: In 20 the brothers were clearly named as Saam and Nuri, I don't where the hell Nuri came from but it was only the one time, whereas now they're Saam and Sami (or Saamad and Falsami) consistently, so that's what we're going with for now.

I also rendered the thing everyone's dads are arguing about as a "dowry" previously, but that's not quite right - the word refers to cash or goods that are contributed from both sides of the family to support the new couple, and I've amended it to a more generic "gifts"

At the risk of hijacking the thread, I always want to know what else I did wrong, so feel free to share your feedback inbetween real discussion, and pass the link around if you know anyone else who might want to see it.

Does Gunka no Baltzar belong here? It's the story of Baltzar, a rising officer in the NotPrussian military, being sent to a backwater NotGerman minor as an military advisor to bring them up to speed on modern late 19th century warfare.

While it's not strictly historical (the author changed the country names to make the plot more open-ended) it does address issues in the later 19th century, like the end of Napoleonic warfare, the switch to bolt-action munitions, the fall of the nobility and guild system, and the industrial revolution's effect on less modernized countries.

Historical warfare and how society progresses have always been interesting subjects to me. The manga seems pretty good - seconding the the like for the protagonist too.

Are there any other mangas that deal with the subject of military evolution and such? I read Historie and Vinland Saga, but I'm already caught up with those.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll read Otoyome Chapter 22 and then do the other stuff again.

I should probably leave well enough alone, but I actually really regret this move in particular, so here's some TL talk from chapter 20, hidden for the tldr crowd: I backed off the innuendo when everyone's talking about the Twin's mother meeting their father cause I thought my first draft was too creepy, but instead now it looks kind of bland and doesn't really seem any different from the other girl. It's implied pretty strongly that the reason she's all embarrassed about being "aggressive" was that she specifically couldn't wait to jump the dude's bones, and father's father says something along the lines of "we'd better hurry up and make this official" during their sit-down.

If this chapter seems a little short, that's probably because it is. About half as many pages as the last one, and the last few (we excluded them) are an ad for some kind of Kaoru Mori zine-book that came out Feb 15th, with a bunch of one-off comics, sketches and art, basically all kinds of random stuff she's drawn in the last ten years that hasn't been widely published, if at all. Also included is a reprint of her collab Violet Blossoms, and some kind of "maid comedy" comic (more of these?)
I'll probably see about importing this bad boy. Amir gets a whole entire page according to the ad (in Otoyome's magazine, natch :v:), so there won't be much for this thread but if I can manage any quality capturing of the choice bits I might start up a Mori thread.

Well, I have to admit that this brought a couple of tears to my eyes by the end. Thank you very much for translating them.

Yeah, from Arneis' husband to Canute being on the way it's all going to be really nasty really soon. They've been building up the tension and done quite a bit of foreshadowing.

My bet is what happens next will spur our dear hero to find a place "away from the storms of men" and that Arneis' statement will be taken up by him after she tragically dies and the farm then gets devastated by Canute. The he goes off to Vinland only to find that men are in plentiful supply over there as well...

Once every 2 or 3 months is not quick enough for this manga.

AnonSpore

"I didn't see the part where he develops as a character so I guess he never developed as a character"
Vinland is released once every month, on or around the 25th. There was no chapter last month because of an emergency in the artist's family, and Yukimura does take breaks from time to time, but saying the schedule is "once every 2 or 3 months" is a a bit of an exaggeration.

Munin posted:

We'll be lucky if Arneis is the only one who dies. I'm getting the feeling that everyone introduced in the whole farm arc might end up dying horribly.

Nope. Its strong points are basically character development and history fanservice. The action pieces mostly figure as extensions of the setting or the plot, and wouldn't hold up on their own when push comes to shove.

edit: Clarification, that's not necessarily a bad thing. While the beginning is a bit slow it most certainly grows into it's own thing, which happens to be a bit different than Vinland Saga's 'thing'.

Yeah I wouldn't really compare the two much at all.

Vinland Saga is so far a very action oriented manga in a historical setting.

Historie is a historical manga covering major historical events and figures through the eyes of a character who had seen them all.

I read their chapter 21 and it was okay until I got to the dowry meeting. "marriage money" :suicide:. And everything about the way they talk is so bland and literal. Epoxy Bulletin's translation gave an impression of how the two were trying to cover up their intentions with friendly language, which was much more enjoyable.
