Nice! Despite the news being posted April 1st, there's some new info regarding the XLEngine - apparently they're going to be doing weekly (or roughly that) releases over the next month or so. Daggerfall first, then Dark Forces, then Blood, and finally Outlaws.

Here's hoping that Death Wish runs on BloodXL, eh?

This kinda came out of nowhere for me. I noticed one of the features of this engine is moddability. Does this mean the infamous Gamebryo modding community may finally descend on Daggerfall? Considering just the sheer size of the world, I must admit the idea of a modded Daggerfall sounds pretty cool. I would say something about nude mods, but Daggerfall already has one built in. There better be pixeltits in my DaggerXL.

Also, the "doom-esque" moonbase level was pretty cool.

Also, even better than "precedes" for that sentence: "presages". That's what I was originally trying to think of, but there was a kitten in my head.

And a little more info about the package:

Just found the CD today and fondly remember installing so many wad's that the game ended up being a zoo of 1994 culture icons. I have not done a file compare to the doom 2 explosion so 90% of the content is probably duplicated.

And I want to see if anyone else remembers something id released back in the day. It was a CD that contained all of the Doom games, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, and I think a few other titles. What was weird about this disk was that it contained both demos and full versions of all of those games and what you were supposed to do was call a 1-800 number to buy and unlock them using a code/response-code system.

Naturally I had a 3.5" floppy with some cracking tool that I got from a classmate but I've never seen anything like it since.

Since this thread clearly still has a mega hard-on for Doom, and since some of you still may not yet be completely resented by most of your friends for always trying to rope them into playing 20 year old games with you, I'd like to once again plug KF Doom.

http://killingfloorlegion.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=mods&action=print&thread=20

It's basically Doom, inside of what is basically Killing Floor. More or less. It's doom inside of something else. It's a step in the right direction: Doom inside of everything, inside of all of us, the way our grand iD intended. You can shoot demons with KF weapons, or you can shoot KF mutants with Doom weapons. Either way feels incredibly satisfying.

README.TXT for Ultimate Add-Ons Volume I Tournament Edition (8/25/95)
============================================================================
RUN ADD-ONS FOR DOOM, DOOM2, AND HERETIC:
Click on the button of your choice from 3D Add-Ons page. Then you will see
a very big list of levels. Hit return to select the level and then a blue
menu will come up that allows you a variety of options. Change what you want
and hit (F-10) to launch level. Be sure to read the instructions to get the
most out of ULTRALAUNCH and order the REGISTERED VERSION if you like it
because it's a great program. Look in the Cheat's directory under UL.DOC.
(NOTE) When playing Doom2 we added some great sound wads listed a S1, S2, etc.
Tag these by hitting the space bar and select the level you want to play and
hit return. This will replace all the sounds in the levels. Do it it's
great!!!

RUN ADD-ONS FOR DESCENT:
Click on the button Descent from 3D Add-On page. Next pick one of the levels
you want and hit (F10) to launch it. The ones that are highlighted red mean
that they have already been copied. From the Descent game itself, select
the level you want to run from the list. And if you just want to run Descent
and not copy any levels hit (F9).

RUN ADD-ONS FOR DARKFORCES:
Click on the button Dark Forces from 3D Add-On page. Select level and hit
(F10) to unzip it. Then choose the level (example.Gob) and hit (F10) to run
it. Hit (F9) if you just want to run Dark Forces. And levels highlighted in
red means they have already been copied. Then select the level you want to
run directly from the missions list located in the REGISTERED VERSION of
Dark Forces. It's similar to Descent to run levels. (NOTE) There are more
extra levels for Dark Forces located in \DF1 directory listed on the CD. We
did not add them because they replace levels in the original game until
they are deleted from your Dark Forces directory. Just unzip them over to
your Dark Forces directory to use them.

RUN ADD-ONS FOR RISE OF TRIAD:
Click on the button Rise Of Triad from 3D Add-On Page. Select level you want
to play and hit (f10) to unzip it. Then a blue directory screen will come
up and select use "Modified Stuff" hit return. Then select choose "Alternate
Game Level" and hit return. Use spacebar to tag the add-on level you want
to run. Hit escape twice and get back to original blue directory and then
select "Save and Run ROTT" and hit return to run level. To run original
game, hit (F9-Continue and Run Game) and select "Save and Run ROTT" on the
setup screen.

RUN SHAREWARE VERSIONS:
Just click on the button of the game you want to play and it will start.
NOTE: All demos included on this disc are in default mode. (Sound Blaster
Irq 5, DMA 1, I/O Addr 220) If program locks up your system or appears to
be functioning improperly, copy the program to your hard disk and run
setup again.

NOTES:
The iface.bat and the connected ???go.bat's are just examples. The interface
was written this way for to two main reasons: 1) To run the games as
"cleanly" as possible and 2) To allow for customization by the user.
Please put in your favorite launcher in the ???go.bat's and modify iface.bat
to meet your needs.

HAVE FUN AND ENJOY!!!!!!
Special thanks to a Doom Master better known as "HAT TRICK" for supplying us
with his library of wads. And to id Software, LucasArts, Raven Software,
Apogee, Interplay, 3D Realms for creating the best games ever made!!!!
Be on the look out for QUAKE which is the new one from id Software.

This thread is awesome. I have spent much of this weekend fiddling about with old games, mods, wads listed throughout and have many more to try.

I am not sure if it is because it was one of the first games that I played a lot of, but DOOM has been and still is my favourite game. It's like a really good movie; I'll sit down thinking I will play just a little and end up being there for hours. Something about DOOM is so satisfying and no other game I have played has quite reached it in that sense. So, as you can imagine, finding new levels here (or new to me, anyway) makes me :allears:.

I used to have a cd for D!ZONE for doom which had a cool little front end. It had an option to completely randomise every item/monster on the map and kid me would just set everything to random and slap on the ammo cheat and go to town since you'd be getting arch viles and revenenants and ridiculous poo poo on e1m1. It also had tons of maps, obviously, and my favorite was always uac_ultra.
