I remember months ago there was some sort of excitement about the Atrix 4G getting an unlocked bootloader or some such craziness.

Whatever happened with that?

What's the ROM scene like for the Atrix?

I'm interested to know what ROMs people are running on the GSM GNex.

I was originally using AOKP but I would get occasional hard reboots when launching games and doing other sudden intensive tasks. I assume it was related to the CPU speed ramping up quickly or similar.

So I tried LiquidSmooth which fixed that, but instead I now have a general slowness when launching and switching between apps. It also sometimes just kicks me out of an app without any kind of error. Plus Wi-Fi toggle is slow and GPS is broken.

Are there any aftermarket ROMs which just work? Or is this likely to be a kernel thing? I'd try stock but I can't live without notification toggles!

I recommend trying codename android. It looks stock while allowing for some customization. Use the included ulv kernel and don't install a 3rd party one. My usage is pretty light, 2-4 hours per day of calls, gmail, google reader/current, google maps, g+, pandora. It lasts about 3 days before recharge. YMMV however this area has pretty decent tmobile signal so its not spending significant battery life searching for towers.

1.6 is out but I haven't upgraded from 1.5.5 because it has been very stable so far and the changelog didn't mention anything interesting. Currently waiting for the base to move to 4.0.4 before updating.

Didn't like liquidsmooth but that was before the new update. Noticed the same slowness in the UI. Why they switched to apex launcher is a mystery. The default launcher is great already. Haven't tried aokp.

It means that there's a shitload of ROMs available for people who willingly flashed that special leaked engineering bootloader. However it also means no radio upgrades, so that's the one caveat.

This has recently been fixed I believe. Some people still had issues with the wifi/bt thing, but I believe there's a patch to fix it somewhere in the xda thread.

Use franco's kernel if you can, the 121 nightly is amazing, great performance and some battery life. Forewarning, you will have to update apex launcher more than likely, because of a negligible fc at boot. If you have graphical errors, like distortions in intensive games, get the 384 version of 121.

This all applies to the CDMA version as well, hope it helps.

I use Nova (and uninstalled Apex) so it's not that, the launcher actually runs pretty much perectly, it's the rest of the ROM that feels a bit laggy. It might just be the kernel, I don't know, I'm using the one that came with the ROM but it seems a lot of XDA use franco's with it.

You can get notification toggles with Widgetsoid. I figured I'd experiment and I'm running stock 4.0.4. I spent many hours screwing around with flashing new ROMS on all my other Android phones. So with my GNex all I did was unlock the bootloader (and change from yakuw). I was tired of screwing with it, and having the apprehension that maybe I'd brick it. I didn't even root it. I've used it for two weeks now, and I've had absolutely no issues with it. No random reboots, no getting hot, no weird battery drain.

I've had more random reboots on the stock Galaxy Nexus ROM with the stock kernel (just rooted) than I ever had in two years of using the Nexus One- most of that on CM7.

I'm on a year old CM7 mod with my Nook Color, does anyone know if there's a stable kernel / ROM build that can be copied to a SD card and let's it deep sleep? Tired of losing up to 30% of power per day it's not plugged in.

Or is there a good CM9 build yet? I love ICS on my Transformer Prime.

I haven't had my nook color for four months or so but stable deep sleep was accomplished well before that, because it was functioning on my CM7 NC. I think the kernel that accomplished that was included on CM7

If you're on an NC, you HAVE to go get the CM7 RC1 that encore put out like 2 weeks ago... lengthens battery life like crazy, stable as poo poo, fixes the freezing with things like Beautiful Widgets, and they recoded the BT antenna software so it's a lot more reliable and has (slightly) better range. They also did some voodoo with the LCD response, because I used to have a hell of a time on the edges and corners (specifically the top right corner, which made it a bitch to use the Market), and now it's perfectly fine. Magic!

I may be having to switch phone carriers soon. I will probably be going to Verizon, as they give a discount to my company. Assuming I want to root my phone (I do), what phone of theirs has the most support in the rooting community right now? I prefer a phone with flip-out keyboard if at all possible, but my big thing is that I want it to be fast and have good roms available for it.

Probably the Galaxy Nexus but it seems like the current software isn't the greatest. It will no doubt improve but right now it's a bit flaky.

You're not going to beat the Galaxy Nexus here, honestly.

The only phones with a hardware keyboard are the Droid 4 and the Stratosphere, neither of which are going to be good for ROMs.

Do you see this? This means "Have a nice day".
I was so excited when Keyan made the source for CM9 for Sensation official last week, until I saw how dicked up it was. Vorbeth seems to be the only one working on it, despite not even being a CM9 team member, and apparently Keyan had ganked a bunch of his code for a repository which wouldn't even compile properly. After code was properly attributed and Vorbeth has been working on stuff ever since, the ROM still has a laundry list of problems. I was excited about trying it out, until I saw that people were getting 5 hours of battery life, multi-touch issues, working bluetooth that doesn't really work, USB issues, call volume issues, and other assorted poo poo. I still have to use my phone every day, and it still seems far from a 'driver'.

I also saw that AOKP has a pyramid build that they're publishing, but for some reason, they find it entirely unnecessary to even list what works and what doesn't. I assume it's the same issues CM9 has, since they should out to the CM9 team and Vorbeth. Anyone tried it? But seriously, why wouldn't you just say what works and what's broken? Fishing through comments doesn't really let you know, since user comments differ so much.

Ok I wanted to start all over again from square one with my phone but it seems like I can't. I rooted it, put Titanium Backup and Rom Manager on and then ran into trouble with reading comprehension and the small amount of people who care for rooted Vortex's. So I wanted to just give it another go but after I factory reset my phone and formatted my SD card to make sure I was fresh I saw that Superuser is still in my app drawer. And I don't know what that means because I'm an idiot.

What the gently caress do I do to start over and try this all again. I just want to root my phone and toss a ROM on take off some bloatware but loving hell if I can find any reliable or helpful information outside of here  Do I just start from the "OK now it is rooted whats next"? Superuser is generally installed on the system partition, which is where the OS (ROM) lives. If it either came with your ROM, or you flashed it seperately through recovery, that will be the case.

When you do a factory reset, you are clearing your Data partition which is where your user apps from the market live. System partition is not affected. In other words, you reset back to the default state for your current ROM.

If you want to change ROMs, you can just go ahead and flash the new one now. The old one will be completely replaced and cannot break anything in the new one. I assume you are running ClockwordMod or some other customer recovery? You've already done a factory reset so everthing else should be cleared but you can manually clear Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache too if you want to be really thorough (either before or after flashing the ROM, doesn't matter.

You may need to flash a new radio if you're changing to a wildly different (e.g. newer) ROM but I've never even heard of your phone (in the UK) so that's getting a little beyond the general knowledge I can offer. The thread for your ROM on XDA should tell you if a specific radio is needed, somewhere amongst the huge spinning GIF headers and primary school spellings.

Edit: If you phone is working (i.e. it boots) right now, make sure you take a nandroid backup of your current setup and copy it to your PC or somewhere first. Even if you hate your current ROM, you can at least flash back to that if anything goes tits up.

2.) I went dumb and accidently re reformatted my SD card and now I don't have my backup from Titanium :supaburn: is this bad?

3.) I have the contents that were on my SD card copied to my computer. Can I just drop these back onto my SD card re-download the app and not have to worry about setting etc etc?

Gapps - Flash the google apps zip in recovery, the same way you flashed the rom only choose the gapps zip instead.

1. Nandroid backup is a backup made in the recovery. There is a backup submenu on the main screen of the recovery.

2. App settings weren't necessarily saved on your SD card. See #3.

3. If you deleted your Titanium backup, you are shitfucked in terms of getting your app settings & save games back. You may have lucked out and the settings were stored on the SD card but it's not terribly likely.
