Having a Sneaky Pete at the bar right now and WOW is this a malt-forward beer. Mouthfeel is thick as gently caress. I like it but would have expected a lot more hops, both aroma and taste, for comparisons to Hopslam.

Founders Double Trouble is out here! :woop: Picked up a four pack and am drinking the first one now... delicious and incredibly drinkable (yikes, 9.4%?) IPA with a bit of sweetness. Almost reminds me of Nugget Nectar, for some reason.

And yes, it's in a Newcastle glass on a Delirium Tremens coaster. :colbert:

I had Double Trouble once and said never again, the hop blend reminded me of onions.

*TASTEBUDS* I thought double trouble was solid. Not the best but nothing like onions.

Drinking Ommegang Aphrodite right now, I was actually surprised that this beer pours red. Very light on the malt sweetness, a nice subtle tart flavor from the Brett, overall a nice change of pace from the canned double ipas I've been drinking (heady topper, deviant dales, resin)

I'm not saying it's bad at all, I'm saying that the blend of hops they used tastes oniony to me, which apparently isn't all too unheard of from what I understand.

Clown Shoes began to distribute in TX just before I left. I think this is chiefly because somehow they're connected to the owner of Petrol Station, a beer bar in Houston -- the owner was looking for a partner for his zany brew-out-of-state scheme and he found it with them. (TX beer regulations are such that if you're defined as a "brewpub" then you can't distribute to stores.)

I don't think they're crap, but I do think they're pretty "average," which is frankly below average these days.

Clown Shoes 2nd Anniv "Vampire Slayer" and Blaecorn Unidragon are both excellent beers for the price. A bomber of either is around $6 in NC. Their Clementine is a great beer for Blue Moon lovers, as well.

Spring House is very tiny. They don't even bottle. That Big Gruesome is amazing. I've been going thru a growler every other week or so. I can't get enough of it for some reason.

Wound up having the Daisy Cutter and the Victory Eclat Lager at the bar. Wasn't THAT impressed with Daisy CUtter, it was OK, but eh... , the Eclat was amazing. A chocolate lager from Victory... thats really ... well I mean... it was weird, but good.

Had a Clownshoes Blaecorn Unicorn when I got home. Meh. I wasn't that impressed with it.

Clown Shoes is contracting through Mercury as far as I can tell, and has some kind of deal with Total Wine for distribution to their locations.

I've enjoyed every Clown Shoes beer I've had. None of them have been fantastic, but none of them have been mediocre either. They're a brewery where I'm secure in picking something new off the shelf, but I'm not really likely to go back for seconds either. That said, their Supa Hero is definitely worth a try if you want to give a DIPA that's completely and absolutely unbalanced a try. That thing was just all hops and grapefruit.

Did you try a new one tonight, and still hated it? I'm curious what brought this up... I tried to siphon through the past few pages to see what you might be referencing, but the only thing I could think of is the FW discussion.

I was disappointed by this beer in a fairly pronounced fashion.

New England Brewing Co's Scrumtrulescent Saison, however, is phenomenal on draft. What a perfect sweet, light, citrusy beer to have for the warmer months. Folks in New England should try and get this on tap or head to the brewery for a growler (they don't can this one).

suggestions: three floyd's behemoth or evil twin's freudian slip. both are hoppier examples of the style (FFF calls their's a "blonde barleywine" which is a term i'm not sure anyone else uses) and less sweet. they are my favorite, non-barrel-aged BWs. oddly enough, i like mine hoppy or very sweet/boozy.

Positive thing: there is a neverending supply of Zombie Dust at the small liquor store around the corner from me and it's a dang good everyday beer to have around.

Old Ruffian is one of the most hoppy don't give a gently caress barleywines out there. A year ago at Chigoon meet I opened a 4 year old bottle and it was still as hoppy/bitter as ever. I'll also throw fresh Bigfoot, Gnarlywine, Central Waters Y2K (one of the best I've had in years) in there too.

Gratitude and Olde School are probably the sweetest I've had.

Behemoth is an overpriced mess of a beer that I've been disappointed with every time I've tried it.

Man, this seem to straight up come and go in the blink of an eye in Milwaukee. Only saw it at one bottleshop, and it was a one bottle per customer limit. The bourbon barrel barleywine, on the other hand, seems to still be floating around and easy to find.

Also, a bar here had Zombie Dust on tap the other weekend, and well, I am fully willing to Paypal someone to ship a 6er or two of it. Holy gently caress was it great. Sadly do not have the time needed to trade (or ever go to the brewery to buy a case.. ugh..), but jesus I need more.

The beer manager at my local store showed me the Central Waters BBA Stout, and the Peruvian Morning wondering if I had ever heard of them. I told them I would gladly take them off of his hands if he didn't want them, no luck on my part. He is giving me some extra Goose Island beers a customer brought in though, I think Honkers and the 312 Wheat, whatever they're called.

I am incredibly lucky; as I'm sure you read, brewery only release for their 14th anniversary party, blah blah blah. Was at a bottle shop one weekend with friends, and was filling my handbasket with CW singles like Illumination, BB Cherry Stout (usually hate any beer like this, but... I actually think it's pretty decent, not fruity at all), etc, when one employee comes over to me and my one friend saying how he only has two bottles of 1414, and if we were interested.

How loving slow can distribution be? Just called my favorite beer store and their estimate on Deviant Dale's is "Monday or Tuesday". They've been saying "this week or next" for the last month. By the time they get any it'll be two months old. Does Oskar Blues use St. Bernards with casks of beer around their necks for distribution or something? Colorado isn't that far away from CT! I've basically given up on trying this beer at this point.

Instead of raging against the machine, go ask the guys at the store how distribution works for them so you have a better understanding of why things take so long. And yes, CO is actually really far away from CT when talking about beer.

i haven't seen this make it by me, but i'm looking for it. heard good things.

PM, as i noted earlier in this thread, is as good of a barrel-aged coffee stout as i've ever had. for all the noise KBS makes, it's about as good and at 1/3 of the price. the BBA stout is good as well, but the first 4-pack i had this year went bad or something. left (literally) a bad taste in my mouth until enough people told me i was crazy. tried another set of 4 and it was much better.

I'm not sure I'd put it anywhere close to KBS territory, but drat I love it regardless. I like that the bourbon is pretty subtle (to me, at least...). I had it on tap the other week though, and the bourbon seemed much, much stronger. It was still very good, but just different compared to the bottle. I really want to get my hands on a bottle of Exodus though, intrigued by CW brewed sour..

I was able to try a bottle of Zombie Dust for the first time this past weekend. I really enjoyed the beer and thought it lived up to the hype that I had heard, at least the hype that my friends had made it out to be. I'm probably incorrect, but the flavor reminded me a lot of Stone's Pale Ale (which I also enjoy), but slightly less hoppy. I'll have to see if my local liquor store has more.

i had them back to back (2012 kbs first). the major difference i noticed was that PM has a much lighter mouthfeel (common for their stuff). it was different enough that i definitely felt KBS was better, but for something much easier to find and much, much cheaper, i thought peruvian morning was stellar.

The regular version is way better than the bourbon versions. Way too thin for a barrel aged beer.

Yeah, I wish CW's stouts were thicker, but that's basically my only "complaint" with them. Maybe now that they are doubling their barreling process, I can now get more than just the BB Stout in 4pks (seriously have not seen the BB barleywine, cherry stout, or PM in 4pks, only singles in Milwaukee. Why lord why). Might have to do a back to back this weekend.

Will have to search it out then. I've heard the opposite from a good number of friends, but hey, a good reason to drink multiple barleywines back to back..
