One would think. I really don't understand how that happens. But somehow the banks have 2 or 3 weeks after they've told you that the funds are clear to figure out they aren't and claw them back.

Like I said, I don't understand the mechanism, but I absolutely believe it happens, as when I heard about it it was a link to an article on the FDIC's web site.

There was a baby blue 4spd for sale a year ago for $4500.
I happened to be on craigslist about 15 minutes after it got posted. I couldn't come out that night so I made an appointment for the next morning, so of course it was sold by time I started driving over.

Good carb, intake, headers, and a set of Vortec heads would probably run ~$1000. Used LSx could go for that.

Supposedly Texas/Southern slang. I live in DFW and have never heard it before. I obviously run in the wrong automotive circles.
Also, the GIS for "slab car" is a treasure trove for the "You put WHAT on your car" thread.

It's amazing what can be done with an old SBC with a weekend and $1000. Remove the smog crap, install the parts I mentioned above, and you'll be close to 300HP depending on the block/pistons being used.
