I'm finding it difficult to find a good ROM for a CDMA (Verizon) Galaxy Nexus. I'm pretty sure I installed craigacgomez's 4.0.4 ROM, it now gets signal, but the signal is still pretty poo poo. My fiancee took my phone today to work by accident, so I took hers, and her signal was really drat good compared to mine (Droid 4, 2.3.6 vanilla). Is there a good rom that actually fixes the radio for the CDMA nexus? edit: Looks like there are a few people who are doing some CM9 nightlies, how hard is it to put that ROM and keep the nightlies updated? I was running build 29 of AOKP with Franco's kernel, but would periodically get zero signal (-120 dBm). I've switched back to pure, locked stock for a couple days to see if it's a hardware or software problem, but I already miss notification toggles, a better DPI, etc. etc.

Hey so what advice do I give my android smartphone owning friends who want ICS? One owns a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T-Mobile) an the other owns a Razr Droid Maxx. For the T-Mobile guy I guess the only thing he can do is get the HTC One S whenever it comes out, because he isn't getting an unlocked phone. Also there is no ICS rom available for the SGS4G. And the guy on VZW is kinda pissed that he doesn't have ICS. He tried the Gnex but I guess the battery didn't last long enough for him that's why he got the Razr Maxx. pretty much all my friends who don't own an iPhone come to me for advice about getting phones or ask me why they don't have ICS when I had it on my phone for a few months now. They say they want to learn how to root but most of them are too scared to sit down and learn how to do it.

So I was able to fix my asus transformer. I updated to a newer CWM, flashed the default rom. It booted up fine and everything was working. I had lost root so I used the viper method 1 to reroot it. I was able to get root back, however I cannot access the CWM. When loading the CWM, the android with the warning triangle appears.

Alright, I feel retarded for asking this, but the amount of information, possible methods and combinations of software/hardware on the Galaxy Nexus is making me wary. Is there any way to get the thing to stop loving pestering me every 24 hours and rebooting to attempt to install it yet again or do I just have to go through the voodoo to get it update and still have root?

All Galaxy Nexuses randomly restart as far as I can tell. How often are you seeing it? I'd say it happens maybe once every three weeks for me. But no, there's no risk of bricking your phone if you get the occasional kernel panic. I'd yours is rebooting twice a day well maybe he has a point.

Xachariah posted:or does anyone have any suggestions for a more targeted approach? Here's the 4.0.4 OTA update image you need. You should be able to install it by renaming it "update.zip" and pushing it to the /sdcard folder. Then reboot to (stock) recovery and select "Apply update from SD card" (or whatever the language is, I don't have a GNex to compare against). If for some reason that doesn't work, you can download the 4.0.4 factory flash image from Google and flash it through fastboot. According to the instructions on that page, you do have to unlock the bootloader to flash these images. That seems odd to me, I imagine these images are signed and, thus, should be installable without unlocking. But given that Google's own instructions say to do so, I don't think it would be harmful for warranty purposes. Either way, I'd give the OTA a go-around first.

I have no radio issues except what the poster above me mentioned. It is very hesitant to disconnect from ranged wifi, to the point that if I am in my yard or my apt complex parking lot for any time I have to kill my wifi (for example, setting up music stream just after starting car) and use 4g

Anyway, since MoS has the same problem with his 9020T, I wonder if it's just a lot more noticeable to me now since the WiFi reception is so much worse (ohgoditishorrible) than my N1, so I spend a lot more time in marginal reception areas.

In any case, it's forced me to repeatedly toggle WiFi on or off as the situation dictates (e.g. my front yard :-/). I finally decided to root my Sensation and get a custom rom because I'm sick of waiting for ICS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849 Too bad it's all way, WAY above my head. I used to flash roms on my old Vibrant all the time, no problem....just give me something to download to root, something to download for a custom bootloader, and a rom file. Things are way more goddamn complicated now. I managed to S-OFF successfully after more than an hour of troubleshooting. Now I'm supposed to get a 4EXT Touch Recovery package and a Firmware package according to the XDA thread for the rom of my choice, and the links explain NOTHING to the average user, and they're throwing around download categories like checksums and firmware versions, with no simple guide to finding things or making it clear what to do. It's all just general steps, with no actual roadmap for getting from one place to another. I guess this is just me ranting. I'm a fairly educated enduser with previous rom experience, and it's loving Greek to me. I went from excited to pissed off and done with this process in 2 hours. I'll just wait for ICS like a good boy. I'm used to being a dyed-in-the-wool Android lover, but I sure don't feel like it right now.

Guides I've seen for manually applying the 4.0.4 update suggest using ClockworkMod instead of the stock recovery, perhaps because nobody knows the trick for getting the menu to appear (I checked the source, it's supposed to be the home key, but who knows). The only problem with the CWM approach is that it requires unlocking the device, which we're trying to avoid right now.
