One thing to note is that the Troll Empress seems to have a pretty poor grasp of the game mechanics. The reason why she messed with Nanna and Grandpa was so that they wouldn't have kids, with the assumption that Grandpa and Nanna would have John and Jade. She seems to have no idea that John and Jade were literally made from Grandpa and Nanna via ectobiology instead of being made naturally and that any attempt to stop this would be futile.

I think it might be that the Empress was sent to B1 Medium and took a meteor out that got scratched. Thus, two Empresses were made, one sent to B1 Earth and one sent to B2 Earth. English possibly said to her, "mess with Jane and Jake so they cannot bring John and Jade into the world!" or something, and while in B2 that would mean "keep them out of the scratched Medium", in B1 the Empress would think that meant "keep them from reproducing" which would ultimately have done nothing. Or something to that effect, perhaps?

I imagine B1 Empress was likely not meant to be as important and ended up resenting English for making her serve a comparatively useless role, if this is the case.

Also there's the possibility that since the Empress is pretty much just Meenah with greater scope to her assholishness, maybe she just enjoys messing with people.

Speaking of Meenah, there should be a point where Meenah learns about what happened to her B2 self and gets giddy at first, then goes into "gently caress MY OTHER SELF AND gently caress LE" mode because her B2 self gave up her independence to serve LE. A real punk and free spirit like Meenah would rather die than give up their independence. :colbert:

Earlier during the last intermission, I wondered this myself.

quote:

ROSE: But as it is, I think the forces opposing these players are clandestinely working toward the same goal as we are.
ROSE: From what I can tell, gestures of antagonism, while certainly posing legitimate danger, have been factored in as critical stepping stones to one destination shared by all parties.
ROSE: I don't know why this is, or what the motives are yet.

It occurred to me that the Condensce could be surreptitiously manipulating their environment as an indirect act of rebellion towards LE, but I don't have much to go on - just the fact that we're not sure what's in it for her or if she's actually at all content with her role in his service. I could've been misreading the conversation, but the most I can say is that her motives could be seen as pretty ambiguous at this point. And a larger-scale, but slightly more subdued/planned out "gently caress YOU" against the Man seems completely within Meenah's character, even if this really isn't Meenah so to speak.

Manvshomestuck has basically degraded to a regular liveblog. He still hates Rose and Jade, but at this point he's genuinely liking the story and the characters, and has stopped trying to outsmart Hussie.

It's still kind of fun to watch his brain get turned into mush trying to predict everything though.

He's normal in that weird "person on the internet" kind of way. A normal person night use their time to read or go out, but with some people there's a disconnect and so they anime. for some reason their brain interprets this deep feeling of personal shame and loss as violence and aggression to the characters who they most relate to. They're trying to outsmart them but really they're trying to outsmart themselves.

See, in this case Hussie, who is the omniscient creator, is clearly standing in for God, who cursed him with life. In outsmarting God he spites the plans that God laid out for him. If he can outsmart Hussie maybe that means he can get some kind of meaning from his existence.

We don't actually have any information on what's actually populating Earth. It could be trolls - we've already seen that it's theoretically possible to alchemize a matriorb, so one option would be that Kanaya will eventually succeed in making one and immediately have it stolen by the Condesce, who will proceed to take it back to B2 Earth on 11/11/11.

Or perhaps the Condesce could just alchemize one. She does have SBURB tech, and it's definitely popped up as an alchemization option somewhere.

If this thread-- or, really, the entirety of Homestuck-- needs anything, it's more use of the categorical imperative. I want an inventory modus based around it.

When you captcha something, it has to be able to fit into every card without causing a logical contradiction? An item can only be used in a way that would work for every item in your sylledex? You cannot use an item as a means to an end but only as an end in itself? Help me out here.

Actually, Goonstuck could use some more philosophical modi, we have a guy who's using array! Array!

Speaking of which...

Bongo Bill posted:

I don't know of any but Goonstuck, so yeah, let's see it.

I don't think I'll have time to actually play soon, unfortunately.

Since NLTM didn't respond to you, unless he did in secret backdoor pms, I figured I'd link you to the system we use.

It's still a bit rough, and can be confusing in parts, but I like it, and luckily the creator of the system hangs out in our group and responds to feedback, so it's getting more user-friendly. There's lots of math, but once you've made your characters it flows fairly smoothly when you get the hang of it. It's got a jRPG-like feel, which sorta fits into the SBURB thing, and it allows for a lot of customization and skill building. Plus it leaves a lot up to roleplaying, as it really only covers combat, which is quite freeing. I like it! (If you need any help figuring it out, feel free to PM me. I'm sure the others wouldn't mind helping, either.)

If for whatever reason you want to wade through all our logs - if, say, you want to see the system in action - you can follow it here. We're not far in, but we've already managed to pull some shenanigans like blowing up the two Derse Moon towers and getting our dream selves captured by the Black Queen. Now we have to stage a DARING RESCUE which will almost certainly end in tragedy.

But yeah, I encourage people to play, even if you feel iffy about the whole ~ORIGINAL CHARACTER~ thing. Just think of it as a tabletop game, because that's basically what it is. SBURB is ripe for customization and adventure, and it's a lot of fun. Hell, Hussie even said he designed the whole thing to invite your imagination to run wild in, and even with the gray areas and iffy plot-related mechanics you can get it working easily enough.

I honestly hope he makes an official SBURB pen and paper rule guide after Homestuck ends, because I'd snatch it up in a heart beat.

e: the campaign also led to this.

I was kinda disappointed that we lost two people right off the bat, because I was curious how a six-player session would be, but it's worked out well anyways. It's easier to organize smaller groups and probably a lot easier to DM as well. All those needy players, constantly pestering with commands. We make me sick.

But hey, if another group gets started you could always join them, if things have settled down for you. And I remember us discussing possible late-comers to our campaign, if you're free now. Of course, that'd be up to NLTM.
