Thundarr posted:Just a thought in light of the last few updates: Dirk mentioned that the Condesce had an uncanny ability to know what would happen in the future, but she isn't a Seer, right? Vriska and Tavros are loving poo poo up by giving her advice in her dreams. The status of personal timeline is unclear, but she has been seen in the Medium, which is outside the universe's timeline. BCCorp produces technology that is clearly derived from Skaian stuff, which is similarly time-transcending. And she was trying to master her own psychic potential.

Because Vriska is a bad influence? vv I dunno, it just seems remarkably unlikely to me that a reference specifically to Tavros and Vriska's powers immediately after their viginette would have nothing at all to do with those characters. In this of all comics.

How famous is Guy Fieri? I'm not American, but I know that during the smash mouth eat the eggs thing a bunch of ostensible Americans didn't know who the hell he was, even while he was wilfully ruining the moment. Honest question. Is Guy Fieri here because of smash mouth eat the eggs (which was a pretty big Internet Thing that Hussie very probably heard about), or is Guy Fieri actually an ironically hated celebrity in the same league of the Insane Clown Posse?

I think he's managed to take the crown from Rachel Ray as most prolific thing on the food network, so he's got that going in his favor in both negative and positive ways. Even just a look at him and he exudes douchevibes - spiky hair and flaming button up shirts quit being advisable some time after your last year of middle school. Well, actually they're never good.

It really puts the Condesce in perspective, too. quote:" In 2010, the New York Times reported that Fieri brought an "element of rowdy, mass-market culture to American food television," and that his "prime-time shows attract more male viewers than any others on the network." The grinning monarch in Prince of Heart: Rise Up seems a bit slim for Roxy's "Overlard" jab, so that image comes from somewhere (and cements in my mind that she came to B2 from the Medium)

I personally hold complete and utter disdain for Guy Fieri but will admit to having watched his show because I really like food. He has one of those shows where he goes around to the kind of local-superstar restaurants that everyone in that particular county absolutely loves but no one else really knows and shows food-porn shots of their stuff, then annoys their owners on camera for a few minutes. He is by far the worst part of his own show. If you took his show and edited him out of it completely it would be improved by like three orders of magnitude. You know how Adam Richman from Man Vs Food is slightly obnoxious, but it's okay because that only increases your schadenfreude when you watch him force himself to eat seventy pounds of habanero ice cream in twenty minutes or whatever? Guy Fieri is like five times the obnoxiousness level without any suffering to take joy from. For those among us with slightly better taste, imagine if Anthony Bourdain never traveled outside the country, had absolutely none of his trademark wit (actually, push it into negative wit levels), and also wore sunglasses on the back of his head. e: by "his show" I meant "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives"; apparently Guy Fieri has had multiple other TV shows which I consider myself lucky not to have seen loquacius fucked around with this message at 17:50 on Apr 26, 2012 |

Hmmm, I'm not really sure how I feel about depicting real people (even if they are douchebags) as being genocidal murderers and 'anti-christs' and then being brutally murdered themselves. Seems a bit... over the top? I guess? I just... I dunno man, I dunno.

It is pretty over the top, but so is inserting your author into the story in a completely cursory and self-deprecating way. As long as we don't have to interact with these characters more than this, I'm fine with this.

On a different note, seeing the needles again got me thinking. I wonder if original-Rose is going to go back to her old needles again after everybody meets up. Seems thematically appropriate for a Seer to have a simple weapon (see also Terezi).

I personally found the idea of taking irritating, bottom-of-the-barrel pop culture figures and turning them into the worst criminals makind has to offer to be so audaciously stupid that I find it utterly hilarious. Just the image of a crappy tv chef, utterly benign in reality, cheering in front of a wall of skulls while covered in the blood of his (numbered in the billions) victims made me laugh. Of course if someone were to find all this somewhat appalling I can't say I could blame them. Its fairly twisted.

Hmmm, earlier chat longs gave the impression Condesce had Rose and Dave assassinated, but Dirk's recount of their final battles end with a suspiciously corpse-less "never seen again" and disappearance over a waterfall... Guy Feiri is obviously a replacement of His Honorably Tyranny, the mostly-unexplained creature (Lusus? Drone?) that oversees Alternian courts. His first appearance that I recall was on Jane's desktop. Are there any appearances of him pre-Scrath or parallels between Guy and other characters? Thought that I had about Calmasis: (S)he is an allegory for Jack Noir. Calmasis is described as playing "the roles of antihero and chief antagonist," as well as convincing others to rebel against the powers that be. Not sure whether "all twelve" being killed refers to Calmasis' or Zazzerpan's followers. Are there any other groups or combination of groups other than trolls whose numbers add up to twelve? My first thought was the Felt were the "twelve," but there are 15, duh. Despite the lack of any info on it, something about Complacency of the Learned being butchered in an attempt to make a 2-hour marketable movie is funny to me.
