Spiffness posted:Terrible music choice. It looks like it just mounts to the wheels, cradling the tire sidewall, with rollers transferring power from the bottom and a hub thing securing it firmly to the wheel. I mean its a good song its done well for the composer but yea it screams amateur marketing. Anyway I can barely see what appears to be a .5-.75" steel connecting rod to a hub. The reason I asked was if that is all that controls the distance of the center of the wheel to the track it seems like it'd get fatigued really fast. There are chains to keep them from flying out from under the truck but it just seems like that rod would go from tension to compression a lot unless its actually a small, rigid shock absorber. I cant find any website or anything about that I think it'd make for a neat buckling problem.

Seat Safety Switch posted:What is that wing mounted to under the hood? I can't seem to find any good pictures of it with the hood pulled off, and it must be dealing with a lot of downforce. Did they fabricate some kind of weird extension to the radiator support? yeah the car in front of the strut tower is all tubes. I saw it in person while under construction and should have some pictures of that one or the other car around somewhere.

I'm almost certain someone went into detail about this at some point (maybe a different thread though?), but what causes some of these engines to sound so vastly different? With a short listen, it's almost simple to pick out a rumbly American v8 from a screaming Italian or sinister Mercedes engine of similar size.

With a short listen, it's almost simple to pick out a rumbly American v8 from a screaming Italian or sinister Mercedes engine of similar size. American V8s mostly have cross-plane cranks, whereas most European V8s have flat-plane cranks. Cross-plane V8s have an uneven firing pattern for each cylinder bank which gives the burble and rumble. Flat-plane V8s are basically two inline-4 engines mated to a common crank and thus have even firing order within each bank. This is also why they sound more like two really angry 4-cylinders shouting at each other. Each design has different balance issues that need to be taking into consideration, but the general gist of it is that cross-plane V8s are slower-revving but smoother and flat-plane V8s are freer-revving, but have the same issues as inline-4 engines in regards to vibration. Exhaust tuning also plays a big role, obviously. As does the vehicles you mostly see the engines in. Americans generally love big torque and big cars, where V8s in Europe have mostly been used in sports and track cars. There's a bit more @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossplane
