I remember seeing something about this company about a year ago and now I see ads popping up here and there. SYM is a Taiwanese company that used to make stuff for Honda.

Anyone had a chance to ride one? I love the idea of a modern UJM but despise chinese disposable scooters.

Looks like a starter clutch runs about $25 for this era of Night Hawk. A pretty good deal to get a pretty nice bike. I'd pick it up but 3 is the limit my shed will hold (and my fiance will allow).

What's the appeal of the mid-'90s CB1000 over a mid-'00's 919? They're styled awfully similar.

I don't know, but christ the 919 is a sexy rear end bike. Way too much bike for me right now, but I will continue to lust over one.

Rarity mostly.

I think the styles are pretty distinct.

The tank shapes are different the cb1000 looks like more of a classic bike. It has sidecovers and dual shocks., double cradle frame, etc... It basically looks like a modern cb750.

Hell, I don't even have $250. I may just sell the Intruder for unemployment/medical (temporary, I hope :ohdear:) reasons and start over next year.

Potentially no. Make sure the paperwork is legit, could be a good deal. If he has no paperwork , yes, it's probably stolen or not his.

There are some highly shady areas in KoP. There are also some nice areas. If you post up what street he's on I could probably give a little guidance as to whether or not he's intentionally lying about the legality of it.

I could probably part with one, but I'm warning you now; they're not so much "needs work" as they are "completely disassembled"

How much bike is a 919? I just discovered they exist about a week ago, and I really like the looks of it. I don't think I am ready either, but could see myself getting one later on.

Probably too much for a beginner, but they wont have the snap or power of a 1000cc supersport, or even really a 600cc supersport for that matter

Compared to say a 2006 CBR600, a 919 should have plenty of snap; just way sooner and it will also run out of breath quicker. The 919 is tuned for a wide flat range of usable torques and it has about 20 more of them. That'll be real snappy.

What I mean is the sudden onrush of power that the supersports have that so often bites inexperienced riders.

Anything that can wheelie at the drop of a hat probably isn't good for a beginner bike. Just the other day while trying to sell my scooter, some idiot managed to lose control and crashed into a bunch of cardboard boxes in my garage.

Just know it's probably going to cost a lot to get it fixed up, depending on how well you want it to run. You could find one in better shape for more money and come out spending less overall, probably.

Oh definitely, but I've already got 2 bikes to ride. I'm thinking more along the lines of clean it up, get it running, put new tires on it, ride it for the rest of the summer then sell it in the spring. Problem is, getting a new title in Wisconsin isn't easy.
