Judging by some of the responses on RAWK to the mockup, most people are fine with the "96" being moved to the back of the shirt, and the crest. The current crest will also be kept as a corporate thing, so I'm told, which is why it's on that poster. Really like that shirt. It's plain and simple, nothing too flashy. Just dreading our awful 3rd shirt to be released now.

Wasn't the main issue with using the Liverbird as a crest that it would be difficult to maintain copyright control because it would be so easily imitable? The same reason Arsenal doesn't use the single cannon crest used decades ago?

If I remember the story right, because of the design of the old crest (and how it used heraldry I guess) Arsenal couldn't copyright it. Ergo, new, copyright-able crest.
