I've gotten compensated for personal connection issues before, just saying.

Take Navigator, it's degenerate with so much more than just the Raven, nearly impossible to kill, protects all your critters, take it without a second thought

Is is there any chance of a standard deck in navigator shenanigans? There's also the flyer that draws you a card...I dunno, I just feel like it's so strong in limited there MIGHT be a chance to do something in standard. Could also use that white creature that makes them skip their combat.

What about Zealous Conscripts? If it blinks out, don't you get to keep the permanent?

No it doesn't. Well, it does, but the effect says "ok, time for you to give back that permanent now", and you tell it "what permanent? That doesn't exist on the battlefield any more. This one that looks suspiciously similar? That came onto the battlefield under my control, no return clause affecting it."

Yeah - I'm talking about blinking the Conscripts - you wouldn't be able to set up Deadeye Navigator with just whatever you're stealing, would you? (I have to read soulbound again) Either way Deadeye + Zealous Conscripts + 6 mana seems like an auto win *regardless*

(I have to read soulbound again) You can set it up if you have the mana for sure, I think there was specific reference in AVR FAQ even for how flickering interacts with Threaten effects.

You can pay 1U to blink the Navigator, repairing it with the stolen guy when it comes back in, then 1U to blink the stolen guy; that's what I was assuming the plan was.
|
# ? May 9, 2012 21:49 |

Well, that would work too Point is I do think the Navigator will wind up being played b/c nearly all the interactions listed here seem pretty degenerate.

Things You Can Do With Deadeye Navigator In Standard: Permanently Steal Stuff (Threaten, Pair, Blink) Permanently Exile Stuff (Fiend Hunter Paired, Blink Fiend Hunter with the trigger on the stack) Draw Cards (Gryff Vanguard) Pay 1U to Gain RRR (Priest of Urabrask) Destroy All Their Lands (Acidic Slime) Bounce All Their Creatures (Mist Raven) Anything Titans Do (Titans) Get A Bunch of Golems (Blade Splicer) Be Immune To Targeted Removal (Any creature!) Gain a Ton of Life (Cathedral Sanctifier) Make Them Never Attack Again (Stonehorn Dignitary) The card is all kinds of toolbox-y.

Demonic Tutor - Rune Scarred Demon Fetch basic lands - Solemn Overrun - Craterhoof Behemoth Midnight Haunting - Geist Honored Monk FoF - Sphinx of Uthuun I think Deadeye gets an immediate home in the heartless summoning decks.

Man I can't wait for M12 and Scars block to rotate out. Standard minus Swords and Titans should be pretty fun.

Okay, jumped into a Timespiral block draft, and what the hell, why does every card have 20 lines of text on it. I think I may have been more lost drafting this then cube going in blind. So anyways, built this, just going gently caress it, mono green stompy, anything I should sub in / out?

My thoughts exactly!! (edit: referring to the "Titans and Swords rotate out" comment) Never thought of Deadeye + Heartless but yeah that could definitely be something, especially with Acidic Slime, Sphinx, etc.

Your deck is insane, but you're sort of light on removal. Double Sprout Swarm is the nuts though. TSP is incredibly complicated because there are a million mechanics but also incredibly fun. Pretty much any archetype you can think of is possible if you draft the right cards!

Dude you are going to crush. Two Sprout Swarms with Strength In Numbers? Holy poo poo. Uh, that looks insanely good as is. I might play Evolution Charm over Search for Tomorrow but otherwise that deck looks insane. Edit: I might run that second Sporoloth Ancient over the Deadwood Treefolk, in case you want to draw your entire deck or make even more Saprolings.

Sprout Swarm is a serious contender for the best card in TSP block draft, so for you to get two of them means that you're about to be in for quite a treat.

And yeah, this deck is doing fine so far jesus. Cleaned up first round, and in decent position to win a game after a mill to 5, 1 lander keep. E: Also, Hypergenesis is crap right? Sure, let's play some more TPF, only not as tired and against more sensical opponents. Edit: Holy poo poo, Seriousink drew me an awesome picture of my MODO nemesis, SPACECOYOTE. Not only were most of us unaware of good picks as the set is new, we are also terrible drafters i general. Using Captain of the Mists to keep someone's red source tapped down during their upkeep felt real good when he told me he Drew into bonfire both games I did so. Keep an eye on that mana, kids, could be a real lifesaver.

Im gonna try and teach my girlfriend how to draft. I'll probably just explain to her BREAD before we start. Also Im gonna start with a Winchester draft, because everything is face up and I can walk her through why certain picks are good and bad (i.e. pick all the mist ravens). Any tips for teaching someone how to draft?

Teach her the BREAK/BREAD system. Bombs, Removal, Evasion, Abilities, Dudes/Krap. Then teach her Mist Raven is Removal and Evasion, therefore is awesome. EDIT: I missed a whole sentence in there where you said you were going to teach her that. Bah.

It'd be pretty hilarious if it was that specific though, I put it all in the compensation request, so maybe we'll see.

Something I need to learn better is when to know to dump a color since its getting picked clean by everyone else at the table. Usually by the time I realize I'm fighting with four other people it's too late and I've passed some good stuff from a color I wasn't planning on playing.
