  • The Founders were basically disturbed by the extent to which the church controlled the government of England, and wrote the Constitution specifically to insulate the government from the church.
  • The Founders, or at least Jefferson, are considered about as close to atheists as one could be in 1775 without being burned at the stake. If pressed they called themselves Deists, believing the Creator made the world and doesn't interfere in the lives of mortals at all. In addition, John Adams himself has said "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." (para. from Treaty of Tripoli)
  • "In God We Trust" on printed money was a knee-jerk reaction to "godless communism", the Red Scare and McCarthyism in the 1950's, and has absolutely nothing to do with being a "Christian Nation".
  • Jefferson, in the letter to the Danbury Baptists (in the very sentence this rear end in a top hat is referring to), says the First Amendment builds, or one might even say establishes, a Wall of Separation between church and state. He definitely did not say "it's totally cool if a certain sect of Christianity imposes its will on the whole of the government, and by extension the entire population of the country."
Anyone else have anything to add? I know it's probably going to do exactly nothing, but someone has to say something, at least try to reason with the savages.

Throw in the Jefferson Bible, if that isn't an abomination to a christian, nothing is.

But here's a more comprehensive discussion of the history of Islam in the US, as well as a Muslim site that includes a history section. That Saga America book they reference smells of bullshit, though.

Also, one of the first treaties the US signed was with a Muslim state in which they say they harbour no ill will to Muslims.

This is the same treaty conservatives like to pretend doesn't exist as it declares the US as irreligious.

Goumiers, although given their (alleged) conduct in Italy they may not be the best example. There would have been Muslims (and lots of them) in the Indian divisions that fought in Africa, Italy and the Pacific theatre in WW2.

Revolutionary War: Yes, it is likely that Muslims did fight for the US in the war (though the records don't seem entirely clear, as likely most of them were freed slaves); the most prominent name given is Peter Salem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Salem.

Civil War: As mentioned in my last paragraph, Muslims were enslaved; so it is a pretty safe assumption that Muslims did indeed fight to end slavery in the Civil War. Civil Rights: I had some trouble coming up with rather more MLK-like Muslim supporters, but Malcolm X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_x) kind of grabbed the spotlight for the era. He was, obviously, very involved with the movement; but he didn't exactly approach it the best way until he became a Sunni Muslim shortly before he was assassinated.

Women's Suffrage: Again, I had trouble coming up with specifics for the US's Women's Suffrage era in the US. Judaism
Women are denied the vote and the ability to be elected to positions of authority in many Orthodox Jewish synagogues and religious organizations.

I won't try to defend the crazy lefties since they claimed pretty identical things about Bush (false flag attack, cancel elections), but at least some of them tried to paint Cheney as the shadowy puppet master and let Bush be the buffon.
