It's just two isn't it? Dermot Morgan and Ardal O'Hanlan. The others are just actors (and the weakest characters, too). Father Ted is great, but 15 years of every oval office wearing out Jack and Mrs Doyle's characters has taken away from it a bit. Ted's a wonderful character, though.

I have all the episodes recorded from more 4 and they did some interview with all the characters and the writers.

It's definitely more than Dermot and Ardal, they said that pretty much every (Irish) stand up comic (famous and not) from that time has a part on the show. I forget all the names and characters but graham norton is an obvious one.

e - I just googled that interview prog from channel 4 it's pretty cool if you get the time

Ahh right, I thought you ment of the main cast. Yeah, there's loads of Irish stand-ups in it. Graham Norton, Tommy Tiernan, Ed Byrne, Jason Byrne (I think), Brendan Grace, Patrick McDonnell and Joe Rooney off the top of my head are all in it. I'm sure there's a few more.

Looking forward to the Charlie Brooker podcast. I quite enjoyed the Tim Minchin one too, and I'm not usually a great fan of his.

Charlie Brooker has written a script (and will star in) a crime parody called Touch of Cloth (link if interested), and if that's half as good as his Black Mirror, it'll be ace.

Quite frankly, if Charlie Brooker kept on calling Eidos, iD and the like complaining about their latest games, I would be happy (assuming he published the recordings online).

It's kind of weird how Grandma's House is all about Simon Amstell but he's probably the weakest character by far and seems very out of place in the entire thing. It's like he's suddenly thrown into this show and is trying to find his place in it but it's not quite working out. Everyone else is great, though.

I don't think his stiffness is intentional but it works within the context of the show, and they even joked about it in a meta way which I liked. It's a great show

Could use some recommendations for good British serial dramas.

I just watched Inside Men and enjoyed it quite a bit. To get a better idea of what I'm looking for the following are some other shows I've watched and liked a lot.

Dead Set
The Shadow Line
Luther
Survivors
(old/new)
Black Mirror
Jekyll
Misfits
Sherlock
I, Claudius
State of Play
(to watch)
Edge of Darkness (to watch)

I gave Downton Abbey a shot but couldn't get into it.

Based on some of the above Netflix recommends Eleventh Hour and Wire in the Blood. How are both of those?

Anything else you guys can recommend?

I actually watched a few episodes of Life on Mars UK a long while back but eventually dropped it. It was pretty good just not for me. A bit too procedural with overarching plot, if I remember.

Without getting into a rant (I didn't care for the movie), the two are very, very different, and it's certainly worth seeing the series. Also, it's sequel, Smiley's People, which I thought was even better.

Yep, it's not August. If the killer is Jens I'll be pissed off because it seems a bit poo poo to just introduce some random character at the arse end of the series in bizarre circumstances and have him be the perp, but perhaps that's just me. I found episode 8 boring (mainly due to not being able to follow the elaborate connections between everyone) whilst I've been really into every other one.

PS: Daniel noooooo. Although it was obvious from the start that he was getting bumped off; I'm surprised he lasted so long.

I second this recommendation. This was the first time I'd seen Tom Hardy, and his terrifying performance in this guaranteed the lad a Hollywood career. I don't think he's acted as well since, actually, and he hasn't been bad in anything.

Really enjoying The Bridge.

When it aired in Sweden/Denmark, I guess they just had subtitles for the non-native parts in the respective countries? What language do the cops speak to each other in? Do most people in that area speak both languages?

I haven't seen the show so this is just a guess. Since Swedish and Danish (and Norwegian) are mutually intelligible, my guess would be that they all speak their own respective language.

People from the south of Sweden (Skåne mainly) probably have an easier time understanding Danish (personally I find Norwegian pretty easy to understand, while Danish is a loving nightmare), but they generally don't speak it.

I had assumed that when they refer to people being 'bilingual', they mean that they can speak both Danish and Swedish as well as understanding them. Confused me for a bit though since everyone speaks whatever and everyone understands them.
