Am I the only one who finds the little "bridge playset" area built into the superstructure of the Executor kit a little odd? Just seems out of place in a UCS kit.

If I were to pick up a VW bus today for ~$129.99, would I make a profit if I were to sell it a few months later? Is the VW going to be a collectible once it's retired?

Good god, your bookshelf looks exactly like mine. Pratchett top shelf, below that Niven, Reynolds and Asimov, and below that I've got different books, but still, creepily similar. I also read all of Feist (but because I started reading that translated (in Dutch) when I was 12 I don't own them. Definitely going to check out Jim Butcher. You seem to like it so I probably will too.

Butcher is good for light reading, but often reads more like a movie than a traditional fantasy series. Also have a row of WOT hardbacks above the discworld, so I guess its not completely identical. Most of the feist is german because I started reading them when I moved here to learn german, the newer ones are english. Oh and I have LDD files of the two variations on the stand, I can upload them somewhere if anyone is interested.

Wife was at an almost-antique type store in town and spotted two older Lego sets and texted me to see if they were cool and/or a good price. Both still sealed, never been opened. Boxes were in fantastic shape except for a couple spots you can see in the second picture. One was $12 the other was $15. Told her to grab them, so now she deserves a nice mother's day gift!

Totally had that first one as a kid. I might even still have those weird little figures. I'm only 25 and my childhood toys are already showing up at almost-antique type stores?

For 12 and 15 dollars, I don't know that you could have stopped me, especially in that condition. It looks like the second one is going for at least double that on eBay, and about that at BrickLink. Easily worth that in nostalgia. I love how the special pieces are on display, and how the box art is even proud of them. Nowadays, I think the only pieces that tend to warrant that treatment are flick missiles. I also like how it shows kids actually playing with the toys.

My fingers are pain, but it's done! I can't say I really have any major complaints about the build quality. I've heard that the original Star Destroyer USC kit used magnets to hold its top surface in place and that they didn't do a very good job. In this case, it's a pin & clamp arrangement and it's quite secure. The biggest problem I had was at the front & back of the upper surfaces - they're supposed to be held in place by one of those thin grey rods into a standard sized technic hole. The hole is, of course, larger than the rod, and so it allows for some play...not a lot, but enough to bother me. So I stuck one of those half-length technic studs into each hole and it holds it nice and tight now, although not "legally", I suspect. The other big beef is the flat bottom. It'll doubtlessly require modification of the stands, but I'm going to give it a proper contoured bottom & hanger section. e: I take that, back, the other problem I had with it was that the normal Star Destroyer accompanying it was not to proper scale - at 49" long for the Super, the accompanying normal Star Destroyer should have been approximately 4.6" long, or 15 studs. This oversight has been corrected. mynnna fucked around with this message at 05:56 on May 14, 2012 |

Playmobil horses don't have poseable hind legs (unless they've changed them recently). The older Lego horse was actually probably closer to the Playmobil horse. The figures are approaching a Playmobil level of detail though. This is, of course, a good thing. Lookit me getting all spegy about a joke.

Manchild King posted:If you want a full cast of lotr rings you of course must buy every set. You only need 4 of the 7 sets to get the complete Fellowship, which seems fairly reasonable to me. The other three each have a named secondary character unique to that set. It's kind of a Catch-22 with this sort of stuff because if they have secondary characters duplicated in several sets people would be complaining about that instead. Completionists are probably going to buy everything anyway (it's what they do!) overall I think they've been fairly good with respect to how the minifigures are distributed in this line. The most common issue I've seen is with the inclusion of a named character in the "army building" set which people who are planning on buying lots of these don't like as they'd prefer duplicates of a generic soldier instead.

Enough to build some bad-rear end towers to knock down.... and put money aside for the real deal instead. Gravy Jones fucked around with this message at 13:16 on May 14, 2012 |

I had mine until I was ten or eleven, and the only reason I gave it up was because my dad guilted me into giving it to the little brat next door that didn't have a lot of toys. He didn't appreciate them like I did. I'd still have them to this day, waiting to pass them down to my kids and occasionally bringing them out to see just how tall of a tower I can build after I sort out the *shudder* MegaBloks.
