Just started to love Stevie Wonder's Innervisions, where do I go next? I have a couple of songs from a motown collection (My Cherie Amour and Yester Me, Yester You, Yesterday) which I also really like, so something in that vein would be as good as anything like Innervisions.

asap-salafi posted:Also, any Doors fans, please just name a few bands for me that you like! it depends on what aspect of the Doors you're looking for. If you want Ray's keyboards then you might look to X, a LA punk band he collaborated with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odMmWZlcx78 (esp. "World's a Mess; It's in My Kiss"); X also has a cover of "Soul Kitchen" on that album and I would suggest Los Angeles or Wild Gift as starting albums. If you want another baritone voice in your life there's Joy Division ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHYOXyy1ToI&ob=av2e ) and I would suggest Closer as a starting album, though some people tend to prefer Unknown Pleasures. You might also try Velvet Underground's VU&Nico if you haven't, as well as Tim Buckley's Lorca http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKX9uwTxUNM

Recently here I can't get enough of The Caretaker. I read to it, sleep to it, draw to it, bike to it, drive to it, & I must have more. I'm really looking for anything like it, old or new. Help!

Similar to The Caretaker in that it is all taking samples and already recorded songs and then applying multiple filters to alter the atmosphere and mood. Not for everyone, but worth a peek. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0FHn4VsU6Y

He has also released some of his best works under his own name, Leyland Kirby. That stuff is not as unnerving as The Caretaker, but still worth checking out.

To be more specific I enjoy An Empty Bliss Beyond This World the most. My favorites would have to be Libet's Delay, All You Are Going To Want To Do Is Get Back There, Camaraderie At Arms Length, & The Sublime Is Disappointingly Elusive. I'm just absolutely enamored by that old ballroom music, I could cut a rug to that poo poo, dayumn. The Boats are awesome, I'm really enjoying Ballads of the Research Department. V/Vm is little too unnerving for me, it's like the nightmare opposite of what he has done with The Caretaker. Inverz is really pleasant as well, really abstract, I can dig. Them's thinkin' sounds. Leyland Kirby is hitting the nail right on the head for me here, I love it. I've definitely got some purchases planned for the next paycheck, thanks for the recommendations!

I recently started listening to a lot of Hip Hop again. I'm a big fan of Aesop Rock, SA's own Satellite High, The Roots, Childish Gambino, Kanye West and the like. What I've really got the taste for now is really rich and epic stuff like POWER and Watch the Throne, so can anyone recommend anything similar?

I've been in love with Madredeus for a few years now (I have O Espirito da Paz, Ainda, and Faluas do Tejo). The only other fado/fado-esque musician I've bothered to check out is Cristina Branco (Murmurios), who is also pretty great. Can anyone make similar recommendations? the black husserl posted:Can anyone recommend any piano compositions in the vein of Erik Satie's Trois Gymnopedies? Something beautiful and ambient? Thanks I'm gonna check out those other folks recommendations and thanks for the Satie. I'll recommend The Pearl by harold budd (and brian eno I think?) And also I discover a lot of great ambient music through SomaFM's Drone Zone.

I am looking for a new album to fall head over heels in love with, something like The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, which is cohesive yet diverse, and amazing, and tender, and full of catchy songs. It's one of those albums I absolutely have to listen to from beginning to end every time, never just one or two songs.

Been digging "soft folk" lately: folk with light, airy vocals. I've enjoyed Ed Harcourt, Jim Guthrie, and Keaton Henson. Any other suggestions? I've already checked out most of the huge names in the genre (Leonard Cohen, Elliott Smith, et al.)

I just found out about "she" and his Coloris album the other day and this music is like crack cocaine for me. I love it so much and can't stop listening to it! Examples: Coloris Fuse What kind of genre/sub-genres is this? Electronic, for sure, but what kind/s of electronic? If I love this kind of music, where should I go next? What artists? I'd appreciate it!

Are there songs/bands out there that make "western" music? Or Western sounding/influenced music? Something like DJ Champion's Chill 'em All, or like the second half of this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrBZeWjGjl8. Or even good soundtracks to go with? I just really like the way that kinda stuff sounds.

The line gets a little hazy between "Western sounding" and "Country", but some suggestions I can think of are A Small Good Thing, Teeth of the Sea, and Those Poor Bastards. It also goes without saying that you need to check out the Morricone soundtracks if you haven't already.

I'm interested in grime but I know absolutely nothing about it, can someone recommend me artists? I really like Dizzee Rascal's debut album Boy in da Corner but nothing after that. I like this song a lot too. I have checked out big names like Wiley, Skepta etc but most of them sound too... pop? I guess. I am interested in stuff that sounds darker, more aggressive maybe.
