Well, I can't really return it since I got mine for free direct from Samsung when they bought my company To be fair, I couldn't even tell something was wrong until I played Draw Something, which is reliant on slow and accurate lines. It's fine for pretty much any other purpose. But yeah, this is definitely something to consider, and if anybody's actually mentioned it in a review, I can't figure out the right keywords to google to find it. I don't know how the newly-released 10.1" model fares, but I would definitely check for something like this if I were shopping for a new device.

One of those three should have the option somewhere.

I would suggest VPlayer or at least try it out and see if it works for you. It has a seven day free trial of the pro version when you download it from the market. It's roughly a little more than $3 cheaper than MXPlayer and appears to have all the same features. I haven't used for subtitles, but it does support many formats and video formats. It's played all my HD content really well.

That's not the first time you've posted that list, I use MX Player on my phone (Exynos CPU) and have the option of playing in hardware and software. Is it different on Tegra?

Some players do both software and hardware decoding, maybe I shouldn't make it seem like an either-or.

That seems like a lot of trouble, that Tab 2 might be defective. When I want to watch a video on my tablet I open the Videos app and press play. It's been working well so far.

The only thing I have noticed with my Tab 2 is that pressing buttons isn't quite as precise as it was on my iPad. (A problem I have noticed with android as a whole, even my Amaze does this.) For example when typing I can't hit squarely on the letters of the keyboard, I have to aim just a little bit above and to the right. (Come to think of it, I have to do this on every Android phone I have had.) Its not that big of a deal, it just takes a little getting used to. The only legit problem I can say about my Tab is that it has a stuck pixel on it.

Case/sleeve talk Are there any slim cases for the tf-2/300? I know about the origami sleeve, but the reviews for it are absolutely scathing. Every other case I've seen triples or quadruples the thickness, or if it is on the thinner side it has a huge footprint when you angle it... by that i mean the case sits far in front of the tablet like you'd see with the keyboard dock... but there's no keyboard, it's just there for overkill stability. As far as I can tell they all suck. And the moko case I did get is already falling apart because it's cheap synthetic poo poo. I notice a huge comfort difference without the fatass case, and protection means crap, I've already got little dings on it despite keeping it in the case all the time until this past weekend.

The case was interesting, however it didn't really fit, and also didn't have magnets to hold it closed, so it was sort of useless. I returned the case.

The problem may very well be me, I have big fingers so I might not be hitting things right where I think I am, but then again I never had this problem when I had an iPhone/iPad.

If it is metal, wouldn't it have the same wifi problems as the Prime? Does anyone know which it is for the 700?

It's metal, but with a plastic bar along the top for the Wifi and GPS antennas, to avoid having any signal problems.

So what looks to be the top of the line Android tablet for the next 4-6 months? I'd heard of the Transformer T700, but it seems like the whole field is underperforming pretty badly. Am I missing some big announced release?

Am I missing some big announced release? There's a Nexus tablet apparently coming, but so far not officially announced (merely alluded to by key Google staff). The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1's specs are up in the air, but even then it's marginal whether Samsung can announce, launch and distribute a product without loving up at least one part of that in the next six months. Your best bet is to wait for I/O and see what gets announced, and if Jellybean gets a billing. Either people are skimping on ICS to wait for Jellybean before rushing tablets to market, which might change when Jellybean is announced, or they're so worried that Europe will turn to poo poo that they're just going to crank out low-cost mediocre tablets that people might actually be able to afford if the Euro explodes. Either way it's frustrating as hell. I'm waiting for a decent HD tablet with 3G and a micro SD card slot. I think I'll be waiting a while yet.

Supposedly Google is reaching out to several manufacturers for a whole line of Nexus phones, maybe they'll do the same with tablets. There is nothing really "top of the line" because Tegra 3 is overhyped crap. At least the Transformer Prime was. I'm not really sure there's anything worth waiting for currently.

Just wanted to say that I got this as a second charger for my regular Transformer and it works great: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007LI2QJW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 Should also work with other ASUS Transformer tablets, has a nice cord length, all that. I can finally stop using my USB 3.0 extension cable just for charging my tablet (since the stock charger is a very short cord, and this isn't).

Only complaint is it seems like the ICS upgrade is going to be a while. Runs anything I have thrown at it fine. Been playing Pinball Arcade like mad lately. Some 'benchmarks' for a Galaxy Note 10.1 are showing up. They're impressive, but they're fairly obviously constrained by something (other than reality, obviously). Logic says the Note should be the first flag ship Jellybean tablet, but logic also said that Samsung wouldn't release another Galaxy Tab with a worse screen and no hardware upgrades and exactly the same form factor either.

I purchased a 32gb TF300 a few days ago and have been actually quite pleased with it. I've used iOS, WebOS, and lots of iterations of Android, and Ice Cream Sandwich/4.0 is now one of my favorites. Its absolutely slick on the Transformer, very accessible and fluid. Zero hiccups in performance, no crashes with anything I've thrown at it. Live wallpaper and widgets plastered don't slow it, everything is quite fluid. The device itself is well built, and the dark navy blue ring spun back has a nice texture to it. I haven't noticed any case flex or backlight bleed. No worries about fingerprints on a metal back. Haven't missed a camera flash at all. Charged to full in about 3 hours. It gets a little heavy to hold in landscape for a long time, but the portrait keyboard is excellent. Typing on it now. As my first tablet, pretty happy with it so far. It's exactly what i want - perfect for couch browsing, portable enough to be taken to different rooms more easily than the laptop and has the option for a keyboard and mouse if typing needs to be done. GMail app is amazing, the browser is very quick. Happy to answer any questions. Also looking for a case. ex post facho fucked around with this message at 05:27 on May 20, 2012 |
