Okay, how about Lurleen McDaniel? My sister always got a stack of these melodramatic piles of poo poo from the library back in the day. Every single one is about someone who is going to die. I'd read the ending and spoil it for my sister

Yeah so she started this crap in the mid '80s but whatever they were the fuckin' same anyway

Then someone came up with a way to make it look like there was more ink in them (not sure what the point in that was), by taking it apart and sucking the ink halfway back up the tube. I did it once and got a mouthful of pale blue ink :downs:

I think you're supposed to run the gel pen down to nothing because your Social Studies notes *had* to be in neon rainbow, then suck the remaining bit up the tube to make it look like a brand new pen you're giving to the slow kid in class out of the kindness of your heart. Then when the kid tries to write with the pen and can't, you accuse them of breaking it or doing it wrong in front of all your classmates. That, or put it in your pencil bag and act like a rich rear end in a top hat whose parents can afford a ton of new gel pens all the time, when secretly you constantly have to remember which ones only look full but don't actually write. Either way, gel pens are the gateway drug to acting like a total douche in sixth grade.

I felt like, this guy's really hurting me. And it hurt.
This is a little specific and not exactly campy, but this SNL parody (sorry I couldn't find it in youtube):

http://www.hulu.com/watch/279973/saturday-night-live-big-red

My sister and I were watching one of those "World's Funniest Commercials" shows they would come out with every once in awhile; most of the stuff was real commercials from various places, but they had a couple of parodies thrown in too. Being 5 or 6 at the time, I HAD to have a Big Red. I asked for one at every birthday and Christmas for a couple of years, and my parents just kept telling me they didn't sell them where we lived. I don't know why I thought that thing would be so fun, but the early 90's for me involved a lot of yearning for a mess-making Viking toy.

Also, I was wondering if anybody else remembered a VHS I used to have called "Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs!" It was a shortish collection of little vignettes about dinosaurs fighting or taking care of their babies or whatever, and there was a host who would be at different dinosaur-related places in between them and introduce each segment. For some reason, over the course of the video he slowly turned into a dinosaur which completely terrified me; I loving loved dinosaurs back then though so I watched it pretty much every day. I'd love to be able to watch that goofy video again.

I don't think I've seen anyone mention The Box. My babysitter used to let us watch MTV and The Box but we all thought The Box was way better because you could request videos (and I think they had a "vote for the next video" show) they would play stuff MTV wouldn't. Like this video, which is completely baffling when you're 8 and have no context for any hip-hop music and think it's just another video:

Did anybody else have the Disney sing along VHS tapes when they were younger? I watched the poo poo out of these when I was a kid. My parents even have a video of me singing along while bouncing in my chair. We had so many of the tapes. Even just watching the intro on youtube made me feel like a six year old again. :3:

I'm also currently marathoning Star Trek TNG on Netflix which I remember watching all the time when I was little with my dad. Although now I can appreciate it much more as an adult.

YESSS. I can't remember if this was my favorite or if it terrified me, because it gave me a weird nostalgic fear response when I just rewatched it. I got the same thing when I recently watched the Disney version of Ichabod Crane, so I'm leaning towards my reptile brain remembering the fear while my memory center is all ":3:". Anyway, I remember watching this mofo a lot.

Also, yes to The Box. I caught it toward the tail end though, I remember watching Mope by Bloodhound gang and a lot of lovely early 2000s pop. And Vengaboys. I remember embarrassingly that I had one of my first gay crushes on the guy from SoulDecision. Yeah. I know. Shut up.

Frantically trying to find my Pogs tomorrow.

I found the name of that film thanks to SA's "Help finding pre-internet things" thread. I only saw it once and the only thing I remembered was the part where he becomes a dinosaur. Irreversibly. It was kind of messed up.

I remember seeing Natural Born Killaz (not related to the movie, btw) on the Box. They broadcast it on UHF so it was like a peek into the magical world of cable and hardcore gangsta' rap. :slick:

I'm probably not the only one who remembers it. It was surreal when I found out that George Carlin was a raunchy comedian, and I felt almost the same way when I found out Bob Saget was like that too, since he used to host America's Funniest Home Videos.

I had almost 30 of those books. I stopped reading them after a big time skip and the series changed to eventing and got even stupider than it was.

I read a bunch of other horse series, too, but I can't remember the names of them. One was about a ghost horse in Arizona. Another was about a girl who was paid to be friends with a disabled girl. I think I got them at a Book Fair. I pretty much bought any book there that had a horse on it. Most of them were dumb.

I remember when these first came out and there was a store in the mall selling large prints of them for hundreds of dollars.

Then a few years there where everywhere dirt cheap. I just wonder who the hell shelled out $500+ for a poster.

I was the KING of Magic Eye. I could see the picture instantaneously, and would brag about it like I was hot poo poo. People used to stand around the mall trying to solve these things. I guess we were easily impressed pre-internet. It feels like it took years for the novelty to wear off.

Goddammit, now I just recall a time in ~1994 when I saved up a bunch of Kool Aid packet points and mailed them off for a "holographic magic poster of dinosaurs in 3D!!" and the picture shown on the label was an artist's elaboration of the 'solved' image, not the real one. I was SO pissed when my poster tube finally arrived and it contained a blurry acid trip picture with some instructions to cross my eyes. I still put that thing up on my wall, but it was months before I ever saw one dinosaur on that thing.

Imagine drinking gallons of pink lemonade to earn the following:

And instead what you get is:

gently caress you, Kool Aid, gently caress you. I totally sympathize with that guy in Mallrats.
