I think they really need to implement a 'Developer rating' that shows up on every app. Something like an aggregate of all ratings for all apps by that developer, so that dicks like this who just churn out scams nonstop are plainly visible.

This guy is definitely choosing the "throw scams at the wall and see what ones stick" approach. I wonder how many didn't stick.

Autoprotect on Cydia is really, really neat. I stumbled upon it while browsing for a different app. It disables your Passcode lock based on the name of the Wifi you are connected to. So for example you can have it disable your Passcode lock at home and leave it enabled everywhere else. There's no doubt in my mind that this is a security risk and can be exploited in more than one way but I'll take that risk.

That's not from the Dev Team. It's some random person that has has supposedly just released exploit info to Apple (for them to patch out), and it has nothing to do with any A5+ device. Go ahead, look up their work, it's for older devices. So no, that isn't for iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, etc - but it did give Apple the information needed to push out 5.1.2 and gently caress up the real 5.1.1 jailbreak that pod2g was working on.

I just know that if it's real, and it's out there now, Apple has its hands on it and will be patching out whatever it does.

Since it will be first time jail breaking a iPhone when this is released I am very excited. I love customizing the look of my phone (only thing I miss from my rooting Android days). Is Winterboard the best route to go for this? Does it allow you change things like your carrier name? Also how difficult is jail breaking in comparison to rooting and flashing a Android phone?

I guess the only part one could have any difficulty is getting their device into dfu mode.... There was once a time when you could visit a website, swipe, and have a jail broken device just like that. I miss that.

I, like you, enjoy customization and backend modding that Jailbreaking allows. For me the process was simple, one button really. The hard part was working myself up to doing it, because at that point I had had my 4S for about 3 days and I didn't want to gently caress it all up. I didn't. There are alot of tweaks that will allow you to do pretty much whatever you want to the device. Winterboard works well, but I don't have any frame of reference. Here is my lockscreen and my homescreen: I changed "Verizon" to "Wizard," added a couple diag tools to the status bar, and a couple of tweaks to make all my icons fit on one page. (I hate pages) My favorite tweak right now has to be this swticher app someone just made, I can't remember the title, I think it's "Switchy" but it enables a two-row switcher panel with a kill all button among other things. tl;dr : jailbreaking is fun and easy and is fun.

If I jailbreak with this upcoming tool, can I flash a clean OS from iTunes, and rely on iCloud to restore my device? For example, when iOS 6 is released, can I plug my phone in, upgrade and restore some or all of my apps, contacts, messages, etc?

You should be able to. I did it with my iPad 2.. logged into iCloud and all of my previously-installed apps began downloading.

Ummm. I just got redirected to a porn site when I was browsing SA on my phone just now. I have never viewed porn on my phone, and the only jailbreak apps/tweaks I have are ultrasnow, zephyr, user agent faker and whatever dependencies those need. What the hell happened? Especially because I'm at work right now and random links turning into porn can be pretty bad news. By the way is there a better unlocking solution than ultrasnow yet? I tried but I don't think AT&T will unlock my phone legit.

According to my Apple employee friend AT&T will unlock your iPhone if you've completed the contract and are in good financial standing. That's what I'm counting on in July.

My home button on good ol' iPhone 4 is slowly dying. It's all-around difficult to press and doesn't reliably register single versus double presses, so I often exit apps when trying to multitask and vice versa. Does anyone have suggestions as far as Cydia tweaks that let me do things like multitouch gestures to get to the homescreen/app switcher? I love using the four finger swipes and pinches on my iPad to do that--to the point where I don't even NEED a home button. I'd like something in the same vein for my tiny iPhone screen.

Plug in your 30pin connector and pry in down (to the internal bit is pushing up against the one button). Should get it working. If not, turn on assistive touch in the normal apple settings!

AT&T told me to gently caress off when I asked for an unlock. I've purchased 4 phones from them and have been giving them $150 a month, every month, for three years now. They didn't give a poo poo about my contract. I could have been with them 20 years and given them a million dollars for all they cared. I was on hold with AT&T for an hour and spoke with multiple people, all of them telling me they can't help me. They went by the IMEI of the iPhone I was trying to unlock. Their system said I got my iPhone from them less than two year ago even though I bought a 3GS (and signed a contract) right when it originally came out, almost 3 years ago in mid-2009. Apple replaced my iPhone almost a year after signing my contract, and that started AT&T's "unlock countdown timer" back to Zero on that specific phone. It will be 3 years after signing up with AT&T and getting an iPhone 3GS that they will let me unlock it.

The first person on the line didn't let me unlock, but when I called back later they did. Others said the same thing. Some people got on their web chat and got an unlock with zero effort on their part, some had to call and argue for half an hour. Some got the run-around from the first person they called, but were unlocked immediately when they called again and spoke with someone else. With my luck, I'd end up on hold again for another hour before being told to gently caress off. I figured I'd just wait the extra weeks/months and try again after I'm sure the device is over 2 years old. I like traveling, and I spent some time in Canada last month. Even though my billing cycle ended right in the middle of the trip (and so I was charged twice for my roaming package), AT&T actually went back and pro-rated it for how much I actually used. They basically refunded me the double-billed roaming packages (voice, text, and data), and only charged me for the 5 days or so I had the service active. What's more, they did this without me even calling them about it. They basically decided on their own to give me money back. Looking SIM cards, I don't think I could have gotten one cheaper than just paying for roaming. Maybe if I spent a ton of time outside the USA (2 weeks+ at a time), having an unlocked device would be a major benefit. But right now, getting my old iPhone 3GS unlocked is simply a nice extra to have, since I'll probably just bring my 4S with me and pay roaming again on my next trip.
