Shima Honnou posted:My copy gets here tomorrow (Pre-ordered from Newegg since they had a code that cut $12 off the order; they didn't ship it to arrive here on release day, though). What's the overall impressions of it so far? I love Dark Souls and I've heard tell that this is somehow similar although not as wonderfully difficult, but I've avoided too many spoilers to keep that 'new RPG' experience once it goes in the disc tray. What can I expect for my money? It's kinda Dark Souls meets Shadow of the Colossus, combat-wise. No giant glowing weakpoints, but you can climb all over monsters and hack them apart limb by limb if you so choose. The world doesn't quite have the foreboding mystique Lordran did, but it kind of makes up with it in sheer... Weirdness, I guess.

Fizzil posted:I switched to mystic knight when i maxed the fighter ranks, i was hoping i would get to mix some fighter skills because enchanting your magick shield and bashing it in someones face would be far more useful than trying to black an attack. At least now i know the only thing you can take are shared skills and keep your previous vocations augments. To clarify, are you saying if you switch vocations you lose access to all previous vocation-unique skills other than augments? I was planning on maxing out my ranks in Strider before switching to Assassin, but if I'm just going to lose all my swanky Strider skills I guess it would be kind of pointless.

This may be the first game in years that I actually go out and buy the strat guide for. There is just so much going on and the game doesn't ever really tell you what to do (like the Catch the thief quest in the first town. I stood in the inn for 10 minutes waiting for a thief to show up. It never told me to go catch a guy running around). Love the game, and it can be hard at times, but I've gotten into the habit of saving my game ALOT. I've been running around with Mill Village and Hackan Slash's pawns. Hackan's pawn sounds like a post op female tranny with a deep rear end voice and TinyTitus just runs funny with those little legs and fat body Gamertag is BEAR OVERDRIVE is anyone wants my super-aggressive Rastafarian Mage pawn Orion to be rude to them. Edit: In case you didn't know you can filter pawns by friends on the riftstone in the Rift. I dicked with it for 20 minutes before I figured that out. I haven't seen any curved swords (well, I think there may be a katana in the game somewhere because I swear I saw one in an item list), but if you like off beat curved weapons you may want to play with some of the daggers in this game. They take the heads off polearms like a voulge or glaive and dual wield them. It's pretty cool.

The combat in this game is just amazingly... I'm not even sure how to describe it. Amazingly physical. It feels like you're interacting in a way games normally don't. I had a situation where an enemy wizard was stomping all over my pawns for some reason and I ended up just picking him up and tossing him off a nearby cliff. It felt completely natural and reasonable as a combat option.

Jeez. Is there any way to see what kind of level range you should be in for any given quest, or is it a 'try it and come back later if you die' scenario? I thought I was doin' pretty good in this Everfall quest I got right after entering Gran Soren, but then that Cyclops came and beat my team up but good. I jumped on his back and tried attacking his neck, motherfucker jumped into the air, spread his arms and legs, and fell on his back. Which is to say, on me. No way I'm tacklin' that bad boy again! We weren't doin' squat to his health. The undead were hitting sort of hard, but my mage pawn can do the holy magic enchant, so we were tearin' through those. Woof, man. It's rough, but it hits that spot Dark Souls left when I finished it. Good times! E: Less good times. This Negotiation quest sucks cyclops nut. Where the hell are these people? So in this massive-rear end town, I'm supposed to find this dude's wife and kid? Well they certainly aren't marked. And the spot Pip apparently ran to? He's not here. There's a barn with a red circle on it, but there's gently caress-all here. I've waited a day already and nothing. The hell do I need to do to complete this? bear is driving! posted:You have an Ultros avatar, friend request sent. I somehow completed that quest by grabbing him in the exact spot the game spawns him in. I found out that its not a good idea to carry the person you're escorting during an escort quest. They pound on you and slowly whittle away your health. This also drains your stamina really fast.

How bad are the one-shots in general? Usually that sort of thing really pisses me off although I did trudge all the way through Demon's and Dark Souls falling off cliffs many times, but the frustration from one-shots mostly comes down to how quickly I can retry. If you can load manual saves made from anywhere in the world it wouldn't be so bad, but I've heard completely opposite things about how that works--Can you manually save anywhere and then load from that save so that you don't get 40 minutes into a quest and then have to do it all over again, because one fight at the end one-shotted you and the game never autosaved before then?

...The gently caress did I just get arrested for? I found that rear end in a top hat Pip on the roof of the barn, and I was jumping around trying to figure out how to get to him. Suddenly, a guard goes 'It's no use struggling' and here I am in jail. This is some poo poo.

Expiring quests are really annoying. It makes you want to try to complete every quest you get the moment you get it, but the game doesn't tell you if you're ready for it yet. If you attempt it now you could get slaughtered, if you wait too long it could disappear.

Which items are generally safe to sell? Played some rpgs recently where they had you hold on to some starter equipment to craft weapons later in the game. I just don't want to trash something that might be important later.

I just got going on that Witchwood quest, and I bumped into a pack of wolves on the way. I shot one with a flaming arrow and it caught fire, and I was like "Holy poo poo, there's a wolf running around on fire, this is awesome." Then it stopped, looked at me, laid down, and rolled over. The wolf put itself out. Wolves know stop, drop, and roll. Game of the year.

Hey yo can someone advise if I should scrounge and get the EN version instead of JP of this bad boy? I don't really wanna hunt around in Akihabara for the EN version if I don't have to. All the voices seem to be in english regardless so my question is how much stupid dumb story crap is in this and do I need to like read it carefully. Can I just slam through the quest dialogs and have a rough idea of what to do? Imagine a semi-retard is playing the game and he can only understand the easy words. And how about pawn personality changes; mostly text or some voice too? I just wanna knock some dudes off cliffs here but I guess quests are cool too or whatever...

Only got to play this for about an hour or so last night, but man that first fight against the orge is awesome; I climb on his back, he flips me off and kills me. Second try I try to run behind him, he spins and one-shots me. Third try, I hamstring him and he falls off the cliff to his death. Two questions, though: Can I redesign how my character/main pawn look after they're created, or am I stuck with them? Can you change your main pawn's class later, or are you stuck with what they start as? Also, can pawns learn the advanced classes, or are they stuck with fighter/strider/mage?
