Haven't seen anyone else post this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icq-J15VHXU It's a "holographic" animated overlay to one of their displays, it looks like a semi-translucent mirror with an image projected down from the top, like some of those 80's arcade cabinets. I'm digging all of the effort Lego puts into keeping its displays fresh and engaging.

Huh, had no idea. For what it's worth I've been in the Cleveland area for the last five years or so and we just got our first local Lego store (that I'm aware of) less than a year ago. I'd seen the augmented reality stuff online before but that was the first store I'd seen it in person. The pseudo-hologram stuff was new to me but I could see how anything with looping sound effects would get really old really quickly.

loving stores around me simply DO NOT have the Wolverine Chopper set. It's not like they're sold out, there's just no space on the shelves for them. I picked up Cap's cycle set today, and man, is the printing on the Cap minifig ever lovely. His face looks green because of how thin the printing is, and the stripes on his torso barely stand out. Bummer. Travis343 posted:I seem to remember that Monster Fighters is a TRU exclusive line, aside from Lego stores? Anybody confirm? Not really a confirmation but that is what I heard, too.

Local Walmart has LotR now so I got the Gandalf cart and the spider, and they had a single solitary S7... not even a spot for where the rest of them would have been, it was just sitting on a shelf in the Lego aisle... and they marked down all the PotC, including QAR. It's a perfect storm and my girlfriend will hate me

Late last year I was bitching about those Minifig cases being too big and bulky and expensive. Well a few months ago I had a change of heart when I saw them on special at Myer's. I think most people load them up with collectable minifigs, but I just threw in my favourites. Only theme cooler than Kingdoms is 80's - early 90's castle. Represented here by a Black Falcon and Lion Knight. Bottom row is Prince of Persia mainly. I've never seen the movie or played the modern games, I just like the figs. If you look carefully you can see that the gold pop guy has had his white feather removed. Basically all the tall minifigs with feathers in their hats don't quite fit in these cases. You may notice Also Santa, who played an important role of supplying new lego sets while I was a child. Some cool statues, plus the old castle ghost. He still glows though not quite as bright as he did in 1990. He is surrounded by glowing tiles and holding two glowing balls (round plates). Im looking forward to comparing him to one of the new monster fighters ghosts. I didn't take a pic of the red case because most of the figs in it are both recent and boring. The exception is the rare gold knight who was a pain in the rear end to get and holds the record for the most I have spent on a single fig ($11). Unfortunately with his plume he is too tall to stand in the case front on. I know you've all seen minifigs before, hope that wasn't too boring. For a bonus laugh you should see this ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120918037909&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123 I actually contacted her and explained but she clearly doesn't give a gently caress.

I was considering the Maersk Train set. However, I'm still learning the ins and outs of modern Lego buying. What does it mean when a set is listed as "Hard to Find" on shop.lego.com? Is it approaching end of life, isn't distributed widely, or do they just not make a lot of them?

"Hard to Find" sets generally mean it's not sold in major retail stores and is only available from Lego.com or Lego stores. The best gauge as to when a set is approaching the end of its life is how long ago it was released, as you generally get a year or two worth of availability. Medieval Market Village was released in 2009 and only went off of Lego.com last year as the Kingdoms Joust set was nearing release.

Amazon doesn't sell it themselves, but TRU.com does, so it's not that hard to find. So I guess it doesn't mean that much.

It's just off the shelf. I've raged about this before, but Lego desperately needs to do that jacket print in all the Classic Space colors, maybe with a white top for the black torso. It's not like space dudes are going to wear pressure suits inside their big ships all the time.

I started looking into doing price-drop email alerts and it kind of morphed into something else. Some kind of a cookie based watchlist that you can use to create a persistant custom theme. I've limited it to twenty sets for now, but I'll probably increase that at some point. It's still a little hinky in places, but really handy if there are a few specific sets you're watching. I guess you can do similar stuff on the raw page, but I've kind of ditched that (as a user) because the main version kind of has more going on now and is more useful. This will also form the basis of the email alert stuff, but I don't want to get into that as I'm off on vacation soon, so it will wait until I get back. The basics are already in there though so it should give you an idea how it works. Edit: Also worth noting that after being pretty stagnant for the last couple of weeks both the UK and US have some decent Amazon deals going on at the moment. Nothing mind blowing, but a few decent sets have dropped to 20-25% off. Gravy Jones fucked around with this message at 23:58 on May 23, 2012 |

Earth Defense HQ is discontinued, right? I just saw a pile of six of them at the local Barnes and Noble about an hour ago, so if you're looking to get your alien-killing fix on before the sets completely disappear from retailers, it's worth looking there.

Am I the only person that greatly prefers the freebie promo Hulk minifig to the official set version? Maybe I'm letting my childhood memories distort the issue but I always think of the Hulk as the upper limits of actual human height, definitely not taller than 7-8 feet or so. The set version is just jagnormous. Proportionally, they should've given Wolverine yoda/ewok legs if they're so into modifying for height.

I made sure and ordered enough stuff to get the freebie Hulk, because he looks fantastic, but I think that that Hulk and Deadpool and Magneto look head and shoulders cooler than any of the main Avengers minifigs.
