It's a good show. He played when I was living in SF and I think it was a pretty good fit for the crowd- stoners who are too cool to dance. You won't really dance, but it's blissful and mellow and cool. If you smoke weed, do so. If not, I bet it's probably still worth it. And definitely take a date.

Also, this song just popped up on my radar. I guess it's considered "future-garage," for those who really give a poo poo about labels, but regardless it's loving beautiful:
Submerse - "They Always Come Back"

Excellent. I was watching a few youtube clips and was wondering how the drums and live instruments sounded compared to album songs-- I was worried that they'd overpower everything.
But it sounds like the live show is as mellow as the album, so I'm really looking forward to it. :) Those visuals look sweet too.

Edit: I already love Boards of Canada, but can anyone recommend any other similar artists to Tycho?

Aside from getting shot in the head, David, what have you done with yourself?
You'd probably like Ulrich Schnauss. I was supposed to see Ulrich at Decibel Festival in Seattle, but he had to cancel due to visa issues. Tycho played in his place, and it was a great show. I knew of Tycho, but hadn't listened to much, so it was a nice introduction. Schauss' A Strangely Isolated Place is a favorite of mine, but all of his material is quite good. If "A Letter from Home" sounds familiar, I think Coldplay borrowed some of it for "Lovers in Japan".

Is anyone going to Spring Awakening festival in Chicago in a couple weeks? The line-up looks pretty sweet, at least Friday's schedule anyway. Saturday is a bit rough until later in the night.

Zero Cult and Solar Fields perhaps. Zero Cult are a little closer, Solar Fields are really chilled. I had Zero Cult playing in the back garden at the weekend, perfect lazy sunny day music.

You never what's gonna happen, but so far some of the more consistent ones have been Oliver Smith, Jorn van Deynhoven, Orjan Nilsen, Bart van Claessen, Jaytech, Alex Morph, Pryda, Protoculture, 7 Skies, Adam Kancerski and Suncatcher, to name a few. (By consistent I mean, if you loved their stuff 5 years ago, you're probably gonna love it now)

Above & Beyond's "not poo poo yet" status isn't undisputed, btw :)

Thanks a lot! I change the style of the show quite a bit based on who my guest is, so it doesn't always fit this thread. I cover everything from house and techno to hip hop, bass, footwork, and club music. I usually spend more time in the bass thread and the techno thread but I'll make sure to pop in here more often!

For those who didn't listen to the show, I'm changing stations and I'll be starting up again June 6th playing a two hour show every Wednesday at 10 Eastern / 7 Pacific on RWD.FM and I'm kicking it off with Cosmic Revenge (Embassy, Frite Nite, Pelican Fly, Fortified). I try not to spam my poo poo around here too often, so if you liked the show and want to stay in the loop you can follow me on Twitter or like my new Facebook page.

You're right. After spending a few hours commuting with only 4 episodes of Gareth Emery's podcast to keep me company I was just super bummed on the genre, especially after The Saga. Though I'm probably overestimating what Gareth can do anyway; I just remember when Exposure was first released and it was an absolute floor filler.

I mean, in retrospect I don't think that Justice - Cross was that great either. I don't think any of the OG house or techno crowd was wowed by it; it was people like me who were just starting to listen to dance music. The difference hasn't been a change in the music scene so much as a growth in my personal tastes. Music like that just beats you over the head, and I look for a lot more subtlety in my electronic music nowadays. You see the same thing happening today with Deadmau5, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, and whoever else. Young kids eat it up while older house, techno, and dubstep fans try to distance themselves from that crowd. That right there is why I hadn't read this thread in years up until last week. There will always be people who are new to electronic music and eat that kind of poo poo up. Some of them will be SA posters, and there will always be a thread for them to talk about that stuff. Trying to force taste on people is just a waste of time.

You're totally right, it just becomes harder in today's forum climate where you can't just call someone a loving scrub idiot and leave it at that. That is why all of the real heads post in the PHIZ threads instead. No one wants to write a whole paragraph detailing why someone has no taste and should go suck a dick.

So I just (finally) caught Jokers of the Scene. They came in with 15 minutes of acid and then played straight up house music, then they got deep, dropping one of my favorite songs in the whole wide world: Tanner Ross' B Side. Lucas got on the mic afterward and told the crowd we were good dancers, and to come party in Toronto.

Lionel came down onto the dance floor after a couple hours and I had a chat with him, they are really awesome guys. The 2nd act who opened for them played some of the crunchy electro that the kids love; I told Lionel I was glad they played real house music, and he didn't mince words about his dislike for the current electro sound.
